Todd Bowles speaks

Is Todd Bowles a likely candidate to be a head coach in the National Football League next season?

The Bucs’ defensive coordinator sort of talked about that today.

Joe asked Bowles, the former Jets head coach, if chatter about him being a 2021 candidate is any kind of distraction.

“No. It’s news to me,” Bowles said. “I don’t read much. I’m trying get into the playoffs.”

If you listened to Derrick Brooks last week, then you learned about how coaching changes can be an “internal distraction.” Brooks offered a rarely-heard lesson in Bucs history.

Bowles and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich are potential head coach candidates (keyword: candidates). So Joe wouldn’t blame either guy for investing time in preparing for potential interviews, making calls to possible future staff members, etc.

Perhaps they’re not there yet mentally — or based in what their respective agents are hearing around the league. But if the Bucs thump the Vikings and get on a run, things could heat up quickly for Leftwich and Bowles. Joe sure hopes neither guy gets distracted from his day job.

BL a head coaching Candidate ??? No coordinator has done less with more in the history of the game.

I’m with EA on this….BL and Arians with all this talent have done a piss poor job and shouldn’t be considered for anything. Can you imagine what Reid would do with this talent???? AB, gronk, evans would be your 3rd down running back or even more creative calls to get big miss matches for teams and drive apposing coaches crazy. Look what coach for the Ravens did for their QB…. built the calls around what your QBs strengths are plain and simple.

I doubt if Marshall would even entertain the idea of Leftwich as a head coach.

This idea of Leftwich being anything more than a Rooney Rule qualifying candidate is laughable, but then again, we hired Raheem Morris at one point to lead the team. So I guess anything is possible, though I think the Bucs are the only organization dumb enough to make that mistake twice.

Bowles looked like a possibility at one point this season, but the last month and a half pretty much squashed those ideas.

LOL @ Byron Leftwich aka Big Goofy being a head coach candidate. Give me a break.

Watching Bowles get worse and worse as the stakes get higher and higher, I can see why the Jets fired him. Just playing a garbage soft zone defense in critical situations is cowardly. Yes, the other extreme is being stupid (or more likely trying to lose on purpose) like the Jets – where on the last play of the game you play man to man defense – but when it’s 3rd and 7 and you have to get the ball back in the 4th quarter with 2 minutes left and you just sit in a soft zone and bring zero pressure, it’s just cowardly.

I think BA gave BL an opportunity. He squandered it. If he can’t create a powerful offense with all the weapons he has, how would he EVER be a head coach? Sorry, he’s toast. Move on from him.

What will the Bucs do without Left Sandwich?

I don’t think any current coaches are here in March, win or lose. This is a one time circus.
