Bruce Arians: Carlton Davis Falling One Day Short

December 24th, 2020

Carlton Davis fans won’t like this news.

An NFL leader in pass interference penalties and the Buccaneers’ leader in interceptions, Davis has a groin injury that won’t have enough time to heal properly, per Bucco Bruce Arians.

Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday, Arians said it looks like Davis will miss his first game of the season on Saturday, when the Bucs kick off against the Lions at 1 p.m.

A Sunday game would have helped get Davis on the field.

“Carlton Davis is going to go right to the wire. He might could have played if it was another day of rest,” Arians said.

Earlier this season, Arians praised Davis for playing through injuries that he would have sat down for last season. He missed two games in 2019.

As for Ronald Jones, he’s battling two issues and Arians made it sound like the Bucs’ No. 1 running back is out for Saturday, as well. “Ronald Jones, we still haven’t gotten back from the COVID, so we haven’t been able to test his finger. So he’s very, very doubtful,” Arians said.

Joe suspects Jamel Dean and Ross Cockrell will start as outside cornerbacks with Sean Murphy-Bunting playing nickel, though that might be Joe hoping more than anything else. Murphy-Bunting has struggled outside lately.

Sit CDavis till playoffs. Get creative. Bench SMB n put AWinfield in the slot n Mike Edwards n JWhitehead at safety. TBowles keep rescuing n defending SMB when the media question his lack of performance.

  3. Hodad Says:

Get to Stafford, and we won’t have to worry about missing Davis.

  4. Listnfrmafar Says:

Let the O cover for D backfield. Get to Stafford early he is beat up. Not a good time to rush I injuries. Score 30+ points and move on.

    Smart good point dmatt

  6. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

We won last week without Rojo. If we can’t beat the toothless lions without Rojo and Davis, we do not deserve to win. Simple as that.

  7. yucboy Says:

I want Rojo to get 1000 yards, he’s at 900 right now

  8. Anonymous Says:

Run the ball hard and if ROJO is running 10yard runs every 3 or 4 carries then go for the 297 single game record …it’s not the time to take off …it’s a 16 game fight for THE PRIZE!! Line up..Let’s go BUCS!!

“The NFL leader in pass interference penalties…”

The stats i saw show he doesn’t even lead the division in PI penalties. I think your bias is showing. Would love to see where you’re getting that from. –Joe

SMB had a great game in Detroit last year. Let’s cross our fingers and hope for the best.

  11. Anonymous Says:

    He is my favorite BUCCANEER
He will be missed and his injury makes me nervous about Detroit
Better to always keep him healthy and playoff ready.

  12. Clean House Says:

I like Dean- think he has more potential than Davis. Also we should be playing Edwards, I thought they were all claiming he was such a ball hawk /playmaker this year.

  13. orlbucfan Says:

I give Arians full credit here. He is one of the very few HCs who allows his injured players healing time. That includes the stars.

  14. Trey Long Says:

Running game, play action. Passes to backs, then long ball. Get first down machine working and deep threat will be lethal.
