Worst In Years

November 27th, 2020

Truly awful stat.

Let the names roll off your tongue. Mitch Trubisky, Sam Darnold, Andy Dalton, Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Dwayne Haskins, Jarrett Stidham, Gardner Minshew.

Makes your stomach turn just thinking of them, right? Well, it seems park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, jet ski-losing, handshake-stiffing Bucs quarterback Tom Brady has outdone all of them in one example of brutal football.

All of these guys have been more accurate than Brady when throwing passes of at least 20 yards past the line of scrimmage.

How so? Well, Joe will let Greg Couch of Outkick.com explain. Brace yourself.

Brady has missed 22 straight pass attempts of 20 yards or more, according to NextGenStats, the worst of any quarterback since 2017.

That is beyond brutal. It is ghastly! It honestly leaves Joe speechless. What more is there to say?

(NFL Network reported this week Brady has completed just 3 of his last 30 attempts of 20 yards or more.)

Here’s the sickening part and one reason Joe is scared as hell about the final five games of the season. As much as Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich and Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians may try to paint a different picture, Arians’ offense is built and reliant upon taking shots downfield.

You know, look downfield first, then look short?

Arians’ starting quarterback has plummeted to a point he cannot hit downfield shots. Literally cannot. Really, 22 straight misfires (and counting)? And you just know that we will see Brady throw more bombs Sunday when the Chiefs take the field at the Den of Depression.

Unless Arians and/or Leftwich do major adjusting on the fly, is this sputtering Bucs offense what we should expect the rest of the way?

Not quite sure how many there’s been thus far, but here’s hoping we get at least five more full articles on Brady’s inability to throw deep. Fingers crossed.

  2. Steven007 Says:

/s , for those who may think otherwise.

  3. Ryan Jensen’s Hair Says:

    That’s 22 thus far, shooter…

    “Oh look, it can count”

“And you can count on me waiting for you in the parking lot”..

  4. Joe Says:

    Fingers crossed.

Well (sigh), Joe surely is not going to write about the swim technique move of Anthony Nelson.

Don’t worry. Another Brady story is coming shortly. Joe’s not about to ignore one of the most famous athletes in the world when he’s struggling and perhaps dragging his team down while the rest of the sports world is talking about it.

I dont mind Brady not having a long ball. I never minded Jameis not having a long ball. I’ve ALWAYS gotten pissed at how frigging often we keep trying them tho!

  6. T REX Says:

    Licht owns it all.

    Can we please start over?

Having a 43 year old QB throw 49 times is stupid.

Arians is stupid. Leftwich is a human turd.

    Start over. Please.

I’m still waiting for the day when someone reminds me why so many people think Arians is a good coach. Leftwich is calling the plays, but Arians wants those plays, he is ultimately responsible. He had one lights out season in Arizona with one of the top defenses in the league and a pretty darn good offense (an obvious understatement) and two others with 10 and 11 wins. His last two seasons there and his first here, 7, 8 and 7 wins. Heck, Rex Ryan had an 11 win season and Anthony Lynn had a 12. I’m not saying he’s Adam Gase or anything, but come on man. A good leader sets things up based on his strengths, not trying to change things to fit his recipe for above average.

They have arguably the greatest QB of all time on your team. They need to figure it out soon.

FWIW, they scored 24 points, the D still needs a few tweaks I’d say. Giving up 27 points is not the recipe for success.

I still fully believe they can beat the Chefs. When you look back at the games they’ve won, they had good protection and Brady got rid of the ball between 10 and 20 yards.

  8. Beej Says:

I’m guessing Brady has hurt his shoulder at some point since mid-season and they aren’t owning up to it. He was making these throws a couple months ago

  9. TheBradyBunch Says:

Whatever the issue is with Brady, we are completely wasting this trio of talented receivers. I friend of mine who knows Brady well said his arm gets tired as the season goes along and has for a few years now. Doesn’t do us much good to have 3 Pro Bowl receivers and one burner in Miller if all the QB can do is dump off passes.

  10. UKBuccaneer Says:

Brady can’t throw deep. Shaq is playing like trash because sacks are all that matter. Rinse, repeat.

  11. bojim Says:

Coaching staff take note. Don’t do that so many times a game.

  12. Craig Says:

Brady gets nervous with slow developing plays. I don’t blame him when D. Smith looks more like a matador than a LT.

The short game needs more development, it isn’t ready for this millennium.

Brown and Brady might get on the same page, but he was out of football for a year and crammed onto the field, Try doing that with Godwin, it might work better.

For all of the weapons on the board, I don’t see a great deal of separation.

What are yall crying about I told yall this will happen . But all yall said I didn’t know what I was talking about . Brady has been bad the pass 2 years and all yall said was he won a championship 2 years ago . Then I said he was lead by a number 1 defense and Sonny Michael . And yall said I was wrong . I also told yall that Bruce Arians offense was trash and out dated . And yall said it was Jamies fault Bruce Arians is a great coach remember ? It’s over folks we will make the playoffs but superbowl I don’t think so . I will believe it when I see it . Time to move on from Brady after this year .
