Troy Aikman: Bucs Are Best Team He’s Seen

November 23rd, 2020

“Open conversations” with Troy Aikman.

Break out your Super Bowl flag.

That was the indirect order from top FOX game analyst and Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman. Speaking Friday on The Rich Eisen Show, Aikman said the Bucs are extraordinarily powerful and do not expect the very best of Brady in a Bucs uniform until next season.

“I will say the best overall team that jumps to mind right now is Tampa Bay, as far as what they have and what they’re capable of being on offense and then how good they are on defense,” Aikman said. “I just haven’t seen that kind of balance [on other teams].”

Yes, Aikman is very high on Pittsburgh, the Saints and Indianapolis, but he’s more bullish on the Bucs.

Brady and Aikman are friends and have had “pretty open conversations,” Aikman explained, and Brady is adjusting to the exact opposite of what he’s used to.

In New England, Aikman noted that Brady read defenses short-to-deep; but in Tampa, it’s deep-to-short. Joe must tip a cap to Trent Dilfer, who wonderfully outlined this as Brady’s great challenge back in late March.

Joe was impressed by Aikman calling out the Bucs like he did. Eisen seemed a bit surprised. Regardless, it’s a great feel-good thing for Joe to note on a Monday morning before, hopefully, the Bucs earn “W” No. 8 of the season on Monday Night Football.

Why am I so dreading watching this game……….?

  2. Rayjay1122 Says:

The Bucs have been the best team and worst team that I have seen this season.

  3. Casual Observer Says:

    RayJay – Exactly right.

  4. Buc Bro Says:

Has Aikman seen the Saints, Steelers, Chiefs…

I love our Bucs but this team is not the best until they beat New Orleans.

  5. Jmarkbuc Says:

The Saints D or even the Dolphins D… looks a heck of a lot better than ours, as much as it pains me to say it.

It feels like smoke and mirrors, and we damn sure don’t have any depth. Frightened to see what Mahomes does to this secondary, not to
    Mention their run game.

The Rams are scary enough. BUCS, PLEASE DON’T CRAP THE BED IN FRONT OF THE NATION TONIGHT. AGAIN.

  6. Coburn Says:

Do we suck in the red jerseys or is it just prime time? Lol… Swear the two times we wore red we struggled. Or wait . Maybe one was giants which we still won. I’m sure it’s got soemthing to do with night games as odd as it is

  7. Bird Says:

Yah. I would not want to play seattle either
    And saints have our playbook

  8. Tackleblockwin Says:

We have seen numerous flashes of the Bucs being one of the best teams this year. Hopefully by next year we will be more consistent throughout each game. I guess being a Bucs fan I’m accustomed to thinking next year, next year, next year. It is long overdue that we are finally in the playoff chatter with six weeks to go. Even though we are in the playoff hunt this year, I can’t break away from how this team will look roster wise next season. We may lose a bunch of good players next offseason.

  9. Pewter Power Says:

He obviously haven’t seen the Saints play. Consistency is the one the Bucs need in the playoffs and it is the main issue with this team. I agree I’m not excited about this game at all. I don’t know what team I’ll see tonight

  10. PSL Bob Says:

I agree with RayJay. But I think the problem with most of us die hard Bucs fans is that we’re so invested in the team we always think they’re the worst team in the league when they don’t perform well. So, when you get someone with Aikman’s pedigree talk about how talented and balanced the team is, you’ve got to give it a little credibility.

Please let this be one of their “best” performances tonight!

  11. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Trent Dilfer is excellent talking football.. too bad he got the boot.. is he the air anywhere these days..and while I am talking former Bucs QB’s talking football Shaun King is huge !

  12. unbelievable Says:

I’m a bit surprised by this as well.

Maybe in terms of potential, we have the possibility to be the best. But as of right now, the Saints are clearly a better team than us.

  13. Show Me the TDs Says:

Yeah, and on the Fox pre-game every one of the “experts” picked the Bucs. I thought, uh oh, we might be in for a long night. I’m hoping the Bucs have a team of Mensa members poring over the last Saints game in order to break the code. How they beat us so badly is an Enigma.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

They get schooled badly twice to the Saints, but they are still the best in football?

    I disagree.

They are not even the best in their division.

And unless they catch on fire with consistency, their postseason, if there is one, will be short.

Just as a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, a team is only as good as their worst loss. Or losses.

And the Bucs, at their worst, are not that good. Fact.

  15. Jmarkbuc Says:

First loss to the Saints, not a big deal. No off-season, new QB , they were at home etc.

Near loss to the Giants and getting drummed by the Saints on the second game falls squarely on coaching.

If they fall on their faces again tonight, with what’s at stake(again) it will also be on coaching/ preparation.

BA & Company need to be present. Nothing worse than an absentee boss.

  16. Architek Says:

    Have faith!!!

  17. Cobraboy Says:

There is almost no defense stat where the Rams are not superior to the Bucs. And even then the stats are close.

The only offensive stat where the Bucs are superior is PPG.

I don’t think folks understand how good the Rams are.

This game will prove who each team is.

If the Bucs play like they did vs. the Saints, it will bode very poorly for the remainder of the season.

However, if the Bucs play like they did vs. Green Bay, the sky is the limit.

I just don’t have faith in how this team plays in Big Games against strong opponents.

To me the key to the game is limiting Floyd’s and Donald’s impact on QB play. If those two are held in check, Brady may have a good day. If not, the Bucs get smashed.

I just doubt the Buc’s consistency. One never knows which team shows up; the team that Whacked the Pack, or the soft, unfocused, playful kittens than played the Saints & Bears…

  18. Godlovesbucs Says:

I think the saints and rams match up the best against tampa. Great d. Balanced o that excells on quick accurate passing attack.

Aikman is right about the bucs. When they play up to their potential (packers, raiders, 2nd half chargers) they are the most complete team in the league. Problem is, although the saints dont quite have the o firepower that tampa does, they are consistent. Think about it, a d that can hold rogers to 160 yds is an elite d. An o with evans, godwin, brown, gronk, brate, rojo, fournette and led by brady is just silly. Only chiefs can come close to thar talent on o. Problem is, you gotta play consistent to get to the s.b. lets see what the next 6 games bring.

  19. orlbucfan Says:

Being a long time devoted Buc fan can get frustrating. The team that beat the Pack, had one maybe penalty called on it thru the entire game. Unreal. Hopefully, it makes an appearance tonight.

  20. Pewter Power Says:

We’re missing a left guard, they are missing their left tackle and there is no reason to be afraid of that gimmick offense. They barely won against the cowboys and giants too. They lost to bears and dolphins so no reason to act as if their defense is unbeatable. It will come down if our coaches come out with another idiotic game plan again

  21. james west Says:

i guess aikman forgot about the dirty taints, and thee undefeated steelers, oh well still love my bucs, let’s get it LFG BUCS

  22. August 1976 Buc Says:

The Rams won 24-10 against the Bears. With that being said, I expect the Bucs to win. Come on Bucs stay on schedule in building for playoff run. GO BUCS!!! KEEP TOM ALIVE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP DRIVE

  23. lambchop Says:

Aikman’s concussions are still an issue apparently.

  24. Oneilbuc Says:

We are only the best team when we play bad teams and that has to stop tonight .

  25. Soggy Says:

We can win, they thought we could not beat Packers but we did, Full throttle all game long from beggining to end and we win.. Go Bucs..

  26. BillyBucFan Says:

Green Bay and LV are NOT bad teams.

Saints game was more of an anomaly than a true indicator.
If the Rams are similar to NO then tonight is the real test.

I agree with Aikman on potential.
Hopefully this practicing at Night helps.

  27. Randell Jackson Phares Says:

You buc, fans need to learn how to enjoy a great trip. with Bruce, Tom and Todd, your going to have a good chance of a trip to the super bowl, and don’t worry about the Saints, when it counts, Tom will put drew in his place. He’s on a mission just sit back and enjoy!

No Bucs at their worst, are the worst team I have seen lately…
NO we are not the BEST by any mean….no matter how much they love TB12, cause to be honest…. TB is the reason they considering Bucs, …otherwise… we all know what they think about Bucs…

  29. DaBucsFan Says:

i am going to be cautiously optimistic watching this game tonight. i have been
let down so many times before. been a fan for a very long time. this game i feel is a really important one. Defense will have to be spectacular. like to see 5 sacks .. GO BUCS

  30. Tye Says:

The 1st Saints game the Bucs did not have offseason or preseason… they held their own but lost by 10 points…

The Bears game was more crazy penalties by Bucs and only lost by 1 point…

The Saints seemed WAY more prepared for that game than the Bucs were…

    Don’t let that over shadow:
The Bucs flat out whipped the packers..
beat the Raiders who beat the Chiefs once and played them till the last minute the next…

Hopefully tonight they right the ship!

  31. Bojim Says:

We need to at least make the playoffs Troy. 🙂

  32. Adrnagy Says:

    Defense is avg.

You can blitz all you want but if you don’t get home you will pay. Just ask Brees.
Until one year wonder steps up and suh pressuring QB and corners not getting burn often then I’ll say good or great.

  33. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I like our chances better than the Saint’s in the upcoming post season play-offs.

Go Bucs, thrash the Rams tonight! One at a time does it!

  34. Christopher Schiefen Says:

It’ll never make sense to me why Dilfer wasn’t Gruden’s replacement at MNF.

  35. Mike Johnson Says:

I always suspected troy was tooting something up his nose. Now I know it.

  36. Oneilbuc Says:

Youngbucs where are you cookie ??
