The Most Troubling Series

November 8th, 2020

Bryon Lefwich

A wonderful Bucs streak was broken tonight, and how and why it happened is something Joe can’t figure out.

It was the Bucs’ first possession of the second half. Trailing 31-0, they needed a score in a bad way and found themselves in a 1st-and-goal situation at the Saints’ 1 yard line.

They didn’t score, which broke a season-long streak of touchdowns in goal-to-go situations.

There were no penalties by the Bucs. First came a no-chance pass to Mike Evans. Then came a stuffed run by Ronald Jones. Next up was drop of a slightly underthrown ball to Rob Gronkowski. And fourth down featured a 50-50 ball in the corner of the end zone to Evans with stud cornerback Marshon Lattimore covering him.

Why Brady didn’t run a sneak is unclear. Why the Bucs didn’t think they could will one yard on the ground is concerning, combined with thinking a better decision was a 50-50 pass. The mentality on that drive was all wrong.

Yeah, Joe realizes that team is perfect, but the Bucs’ in-game life was on the line, at home, and it folded.

Joe just thought that series was a really bad sign. And Joe was not surprised when the Bucs were lifeless from there forward.

Worst game of Leftwich’s career! A lot on the players but nothing he called worked and found no way to get Brady in rhythm.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

That series is totally on Leftwich……we should have tried to run at least twice…..probably on 2nd & 3rd down…..maybe even on 4th…..a Brady sneak would have worked also…..
    Awful…..impotence on display.

  3. Rod Munch Says:

I’d complain about throwing so much at the goalline, but Brady has done it and been successful all year. Generally speaking I think you just ram it up the gut 4 times and if you can’t get 18inches then you fire your OL coach.

As for Brady sneaking, he calls them himself so he obviously saw something he didn’t like – or didn’t feel like taking a beating when the team had no chance and the defense didn’t show up.

  4. bucfanforever Says:

Brady’s been watching Wolverines football, and has started to think about becoming the head coach there for the next quarter century.

  5. bucfanforever Says:

Sneaking might have scored points and that wasn’t the goal tonight. Sometimes the better strategy is to save all the points for the playoffs.

  6. bucfanforever Says:

It was funny during halftime with Dungy saying this Bucs offense looks pathetic. He definitely knows what he is talking about there.

  7. Bosch Says:

Yep. That series was a monumental failure. 4 hand offs would have gotten the job done. No matter, we would have lost anyway. At least now we are going to find out if Bruce is a difference maker it just a good talker. I hope it is the former.

  8. Frank Pillow Says:

    Insert Jim Mora’s fantastic retort here…”Playoff? PLAYOFFS!!?!?!?…”

  9. Swampbuc Says:

The coaches better get in a room and figure out how they collectively lais the biggest egg of the season on SNF. I can’t believe I let them fool me into thinking they were winners.

Same old Schmucks. They will not make the playoffs.

  10. JP09 Says:

The goal line series was almost as pathetic as the first four 3 & outs…. this offense has no creativity and way to many weapons for this type of embarrassment

  11. firethecannons Says:

donovan smith had an awful game and that is why the offense was awful Brady was hassled all night

the defense is way way over rated and they played scared and could not deal with saints offensive line which is outstanding we never got pressure on drew brees secondary was in wrong coverage–whatever they were in it was wrong–it did not work for this game

embarassed to be a Bucs fan

  12. NCFlorIdiot Says:

Yeah, this is on the coaches… Get Logan Mankins in here ASAP! Make him an offer he can’t refuse!

  13. Coburn Says:

Yeah I absolutely hated only running it once there… What was he thinking? If you try running at the one yard line 3 times or more and they stuff you well just give them the game at that point. No reason anybody in the NFL can’t eventually get in that close

  14. Soggy Says:

worst game in all phases, is there trouble at one buc?

  15. gp Says:

    “Execution? I’m all for it!”

  16. Sesteprenelicus Says:

It was so bad it makes me wonder if the Saints knew the Bucs play-calling. Also, the Saints executed everything on offense and defense almost perfectly.

  17. Kobe Faker Says:

“Winston said he was going to Harvard with Sean Paytons coaching vs Polk county community college BA/BL twins coaching

Swap only the coaches and keep the same players

Sean Payton wins yesterday game with the Bucs players

Sean Payton utilizes the strengths of the players

BA/BL twins would have had Brees killed by having him hold the ball and throwing downfield sith his noodle arm”

    I enjoyed that game.

  19. Bobby M. Says:

Leftwich is a poor man’s Adam Gase. We had FOUR rushes the entire game including the series from the 1 yd line, that’s ridiculous. You dont play a potent offense like the Saints and not make some type of effort to manage the clock.

Next up are the Panthers, which showed Sunday they will compete.

Second game in a row I feel like the coordinators let everyone down.

Byron Sammich is years away from aHC call. Years. If ever.

Bowels really…I don’t know, that was horrendous.

  21. 813bucboi Says:

no one at OBP was ready for the saints….sad…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  22. Red Skeleton Says:

It seemed that every play called had one option. The first pass sailed to nobody, so it seemed like Evans or nothing. The second a run up the gut for nothing. 3rd forced to Gronk… not pretty but should have been caught. Then 4th was Mike or nothing again. Seemed the Bucs were playing with blinders on all night.

  23. bojim Says:

Got two big backs. Run the ball 4 times. Bet it gets in.

  24. unbelievable Says:

Sums up the game perfectly- 4 tries to get 1 single yard, and they couldn’t do it.

Nothing but a bunch of pretenders. Pathetic. Leftwich sucks.

    Brady sucks harder!6
