Shaq Barrett, Hidden Hero

November 3rd, 2020

It’s not too harsh to say the BSPN announcing crew on Monday Night Football was horrendous tonight.

How many Bucs names were botched? But that’s not what irked Joe most.

On the Buccaneers’ critical fourth-quarter interception of Giants QB Daniel Jones, Shaq Barrett was pulling Jones’ jersey and hitting him at the same time to force the throw that was picked off by Sean Murphy-Bunting. It was a back-breaker for New York, which was leading 17-15 and driving in Tampa By territory.

And in all the replays shown, the announcers didn’t even mention Shaq by name.

Rewind to the Bucs’ interception early in the second half, a real tone-setter for the Bucs defense, and it was Shaq again pulling Jones’ jersey as he threw to Carlton Davis. And color analyst Louis Riddick (who Joe likes a lot) didn’t mention Shaq being at the root of the miscue.

Joe has noted Shaq’s low sack total this season multiple times (he’s got 3 this season) in the context of Shaq not living up to his franchise-tag pay and hurting his chances for a break-the-bank contract next season.

Tonight. he certainly was a franchise edge rusher against a quarterback who reminds Joe a lot of another turnover-prone QB.

    Shaq and JPP played great….

    We missed VV this game….

    GO BUCS

That is why stats don’t tell the story.

  3. REDZONE BA Says:

Must be the Joe who hates JW. Unnecessary low blow. JW is gone. Why continue to reference JW? Have we not moved on???

  4. Swampbuc Says:

On the money with Shaq. He’s naking a ton of plays and pressures. He’s about to have an explosion of sacks hopefully against the Aints. He really looks like a complete football player not just a sack artist.

That announcing crew isn’t qualified to do high school football. They are almost unlistenable. I wish I could pick up a synchronized version of Gene and Dave Moore. But it’s off by too much.

Winston would have put up 450 yards and 38 points on this defense. Don’t compare this jobber in NY to a guy with 5000+ yards and 32 TDs on his resume.

As for Shaq, he becomes more affordable every game. I hope the Bucs can keep winning without him putting up numbers then maybe somehow they can afford to keep JPP and him together for one more year – then with the extra money, they can keep David as well.

How many times were “the Bucs” referred to as “the Patriots” and “Tampa Bay” referred to as “New England” ?

    Rod

    You clown

JW would’ve cost us the game tonight….

    GO BUCS

Swampbuc – the nice thing about listening to the radio feed is that you can hear what happened, then watch the play and know where the ball is going. Yeah, it mildly takes away from the action for some, but for me, I prefer it by a mile.

Also, if you really want everything synced, you can do it, but you need a DVR and NFL gamepass, which has the NFL radio feeds. However with the feed done that way, it’s before the game on TV (even with the delay) so if you have a DVR you normally pause it for 25 seconds or so, then that generally syncs things up (at least with my system). That’s the only way I’ve been able to get everything synced.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

813bucboi – Calm down kiddo, all I said was he’d put up huge numbers against this Bucs defense with the way they were playing.

  10. Coburn Says:

We will see how JPP finished the rest of the year… One way or another we need to draft a guy to either replace one of those guys or to at least mix in there… Absolutely need some young talent and hope Nelson keeps improving.

  11. SB Says:

Shaq, JPP, White, David and Winfield played Great Instinctive games tonight.
I COMPLETELY blame Bowles on this game being so close.
There were times I was having nightmares of Mike Smith’s D out there playing like ‘social distancing’ was mandatory in the secondary

Winston would have put up 450 yards and 38 points on this defense.

And probably given them back the ball three times resulting in a loss.

SB oddly enough I feel most of the word on defense was just getting out physicaled in th trenches… even when we sent extras never seemed to get home. When you’re playing man to man you hope the pass rush gets there… Wasn’t just in pass protection either… They lunched us in the mouth in the running game until they abandoned it.

  14. #1bucfan Says:

Joe hit us with guys can throw under pressure which is tru but there is also guys out there that when pressured make bad throws or decisions that become turnovers. I’ll keep beating this drum even if joe doesn’t agree. I would rather have pressure with a turnover than just getting a sack.

  15. richardtyson Says:

Devin White was Devin Smith on one play. And then Russell Shepard showed up in place of Sterling Shepard.

  16. Brad Says:

I still think we’re one pass rusher short especially without Vita to take up 2 blockers. When the game gets up tempo and the D is on the field a lot they look gassed at times. I know you’ve been ringing the bell for Clay Mathews, Joe. My brother put out a name to me that would be even better especially as a part time guy, (who has a big contract 1/2 year), but only 1 non guaranteed year after and would fetch back the pick in a comp pick. JJ Watt. Could play along the two rushers or in place of one.
These cap guys can restructure and make anything fit.

  17. DoooshLaRue Says:

Steve Levy has devolved into an idiotic prick.

  18. UKbuccaneer Says:

I thought Shawn was having a terrible year because his sacks are down, Joe?

It’s as if sacks alone are an overrated stat, or something.

  21. jimm Says:

can we find a stat on what % of the time shaq is in coverage ?

  22. Dreambig Says:

This announcer crew was one of the worst I have ever heard. Absolutely horrible!

  23. orlbucfan Says:

I watched the game on the nfl feed with the sound off. Good thing cos the few seconds I turned the sound on, the idiot announcers were all over themselves gushing about the Giants. A 1 win team? You’d thought they just won the SB.

  24. lambchop Says:

MNF broadcast crew has been garbage all season. They talk like chicks in a garden. They add nothing to the game. Bring back John Madden. I would rather hear Chris Berman. You know, someone entertaining.

I especially don’t like Riddick. Whoever thought these 3 were going to be great on MNF needs to be fired.

  25. Dp4life22 Says:

Agree joe Shaw effort helped cause the turnovers
