“Losers”

November 16th, 2020

Last week, the Bucs dropped the biggest, smelliest turd on the Bucs helmet at midfield at the Den of Depression on national television, setting themselves up for ridicule, scorn and shame for a full week on just about every national sports hollering show you can find.

So to throw eggs at the same folks who ripped the Bucs for getting their arses handed to them as losers because the Bucs beat a team with a losing record is a bit much, no?

But that’s the way Frank Schwab of Yahoo! Sports sees it. Schwab labeled the folks who unloaded on the Bucs last week as “losers” for giving up on the Pewter Pirates so quickly in Schwab’s weekly “Winners and Losers” column for Week 10.

Buccaneers critics: To listen to NFL talk over the past week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were exposed as frauds last Sunday night and the New Orleans Saints were the class of the NFC.

The NFL’s popularity and a week to fill between games leads to overreactions. The Buccaneers are still a very good team, and they pounded the Carolina Panthers 46-23 on Sunday. That’s the same Panthers team that nearly beat the Kansas City Chiefs last week. The Buccaneers put up 544 yards. Ronald Jones had a 98-yard run. Tom Brady threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for another score.

Maybe the Buccaneers don’t match up well against the Saints. Maybe they just had a bad night last week. But they’re not going anywhere.

Look, Joe wants the Bucs to win, alright? After two dreadful games, one in which the Bucs escaped New Jersey thanks largely because of a generous non-call by the zebras, the Bucs earned the right to be raked over the coals.

What team is this? A team that gets taken to the woodshed like no other by the slimy Saints, or the Bucs who curb-stomped a team with a losing record?

The Bucs are a winning football team. But after that, Joe cannot yet pinpoint what this Bucs team is.

It certainly has not yet reached a level where the team is above critique.

[Joe is well aware who is in that photo. The photo is meant to illustrate Schwab throwing darts at folks who make a living from screaming behind a microphone. Nothing more and nothing less. Joe is not launching a direct assault on the man who is in the photo. If you notice Joe never even mentioned the guy in the article. Calm down. Nor is the photo meant to undermine the good name of Ed Kranepool. — Joe]

Some people act like we went undefeated the year we won the Super Bowl. We got stomped by the Steelers 17-7 the second to last game of the season. That’s the “paper champions” game. It’s too long a season to get worked up over one game, especially when we’ve shown we can string wins together.

  3. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Wow…Brees got whacked pretty good yesterday. Broken ribs on both sides AND a collapse lung per his MRI this morning. Looks like Jaymiss is going to get his shot for a game or two.

  4. Jmarkbuc Says:

    17-7 isn’t exactly 38-3….

And Shaun King ain’t the GOAT either….

  5. Mike Says:

The Bucs return to winning and having a solid running game is no coincidence. The Bucs know they must stay committed to the run if they want to have an effective offense. Kudos for them getting back to their style of play. The question about who they are on defense is still TBD. They played better in the 2nd half, but the first half was not impressive by any means. They still need to put together 4 quarters of football on both sides of the ball.

Not a good report for Saints fans, multiple cracked ribs for Brees. What a difference a week makes. Crazy year, I will never gloat about a player getting hurt. But it sure does help the Bucs out if JW starts instead of Brees.GO BUCS!!!!

  7. NashvilleBuc Says:

3 of Brees ribs fractured against Bucs. One thing is for sure- when teams play the Bucs they get beat up. That alone says we are a physical team.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

lets get this W monday night!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  9. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs are 7-1 versus teams not named the Saints.

Brady has 5 INTs in 2 games against the Saints, while he has 2 INTs in 8 games against everyone else.

Some teams just have other teams numbers, it’s why before the season even started I said the Bucs would lose in Chicago, yet beat Green Bay in Tampa. Why is that? Because that’s just the way it is.

…and the way it is, is that the Saints are going to beat up on Arians offense and Arians defense.

What the Bucs need to hope is another team can take out the Saints before the Bucs have to face them in the playoffs, because I don’t see anything changing.

Also for those hoping Winston is the Saints QB, that things will be different, you’re a moron that clearly doesn’t know the Bucs history and how this stuff ALWAYS works out.

No team is above critique in the nfl. The truth is that if you are not on your a game, you can lose to anyone in the league. Every team has shown that.

  11. BillyBucFan Says:

Yeah a championship team NEVER loses like that.
    KC won’t get blown out.
    Wont happen

I’m still not worried because it isn’t the playoffs yet.
This team won’t have the city was vacated or no energy excuses.

I still believe if we stay healthy and can protect Brady we can beat anybody.

  12. Snook Says:

0-2 vs Saints when we won the Super Bowl in 2002. Can’t wait to see Jameis soil himself against the Falcons this weekend.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

BillyBucFan … “Yeah a championship team NEVER loses like that”.

And yet last year the SB Champion Chiefs were 6-4 after winning their first 4 games of the year. But they bounced back winning 6 in a row plus 3 playoff games. BTW Billy, a loss is a loss when it comes to season records.

Rod … “The Bucs are 7-1 versus teams not named the Saints.”

GRRREAT point Rod because Sean Payton is a helluva coach & he’s had plenty of years to perfect his ‘strategies’ for beating the Bucs. And he’s been very successful at it over the years. Payton did a great job with Bridgewater as a fill-in for Brees last year, and it’ll be interesting to see if he can do the same with Jameis. Saints still have beaucoup talent, and I’ve long thought that the ‘right coach’ could turn Jameis into a very good QB … in time. Brees will be out for a long time with several broken ribs & a collapsed lung.

  14. Coburn Says:

Well it’s a good thing this dude doesn’t know more about me personally and some of the things going in for me right now, or he’d really fall me loser….
In all seriousness though I think some criticism and/or worry after that embarrassment against Saints, which followed an ugly win against Giants was warranted. I’m still not ready to crown us… We are what we are. A mixed bag. I think on defense if we try to lean away from zone it will help and on offense Marpet coming back and receivers getting healthy will help. Hopefully start getting hot near end of the year here…

  15. bojim Says:

Broken ribs and a collapsed lung? Been there, done that. He ain’t coming back in three weeks. Maybe the playoffs.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

bojim – if Winston plays well, gets the Saints into the playoffs, would they put a hobbled Brees back in as QB after missing 2-months, straight into a playoff game?

I assume yes, they would, but if not, then Brees has almost certainly played his last game. If that’s how he ends his career, what an anticlimactic ending.

I’m not however writing him off at this point, I think Brees knows this is his last year and will get back out there somehow. But if Winston is playing well, and I expect him to, that will be interesting. Additionally Winston is playing for the Saints starting job going forward, I think that is why he is there, Payton was grooming him to take over for Brees next year. So much for all the idiots saying Winston was the “3rd stringer”, it’s almost like those morons don’t know what they’re talking about, as usual.

  17. Cobraboy Says:

I cracked some ribs and cracked my scapula when I hit a goat on my motorcycle.

NOT *that* GOAT, but the kind that some military guys roasted for dinner later that evening. The goat got the worst of it, but I was on the shelf for a month…and I didn’t have to play QB in the NFL.

    I can’t even imagine…

  18. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Cobra

Always my biggest fear when I rode and what keeps me off bikes now.

I surely don’t have the cods or craziness to ride them among Florida Drivers.
However we lived in a spot on Michigan’s UP that was motorcycle heaven. Lots of turns and up and down whoop de doos. Curves were frequently blind. I thought long and hard about remounting. The deer all over the roads kept me parked.

  19. Craig Says:

There should still be a big question mark about next Monday’s match. The Rams have a defense that can keep the pressure on Brady.

Their offense is shaky, but they did beat the Seahawks, with defense. That means something.

  20. SlyPirate Says:

The Rams game is huge. It’s a must win.
    1. 11-12 wins They’ll need that many to get into the playoffs this year.
    2. Prime time win. They know they suck in big time games. Losing this game will be a huge hit to their psyche.
    3. Wildcard. It could come down to Bucs or Rams for the last spot. This would be a tie breaker.
