Kamara On Arians’ Mind

November 5th, 2020

Saints RB Alvin Kamara.

When you think a guy may be better than a Hall of Fame player, that’s saying a lot.

When Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians was quarterback coach with the Colts, they had a guy at running back who is now in Canton. Marshall Faulk, perhaps one of the best all-around running backs there ever was.

Arians, per SaintsWire.com, said, “I coached Marshall Faulk, and this guy’s scarier.”

Dang.

Arians elaborated on his Zoom call yesterday on Kamara.

“I think we always knew he was a great runner,” Arians siad of Kamara. “He’s got great speed [and] breaks a ton of tackles. But, when you start looking at backs catching eight, nine [or] 10 balls a game, that’s a very rare guy who can run routes and easily catch footballs out away from the formation.

“Marshall [Faulk] was one of the best I’d ever seen [and] I thought David Johnson was going to become one of those guys. His ability to not just catch it, but be instant with it in his hands with a burst to take it to the house – he’s probably one of the better screen runners in the game. The more he touches it, the more good things happen.”

This is where Devin White comes in. Thus far, White’s kryptonite just might be pass coverage. If White wants to have a major impact on the biggest game of the season, it would be to hammer Kamara the moment he touched a pass.

If White could pull that off, it would be a major dent into the Saints’ offensive attack.

Kamara vs. White is something Joe will be watching closely.

The last two years as defensive coordinator of the Bucs, Todd Bowles’ squad has had mixed results trying to stop Kamara. In 2019, Kamara had 104 and 122 yards from scrimmage. In the season opener, Bowles’ defense held Kamara to 16 yards rushing but Karama still got 51 yards receiving.

Stopping Karama will go a long way to holding down the Saints’ offense.

Arians has yet to beat the Saints as Bucs coach.

Yes White holds the key to beating the Saints. And really look for White in the redzone. This is when they go after White. Burnt him for 2 TDs in Week 1. If White can step up and put an end to that we are sitting pretty…..and the Saints will struggle to score.

offense and defense will be ready….

we’ll be atop of the division monday morning!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  4. Kalind Says:

    And Marpet

  5. Coburn Says:

Trust David covering him a lot more, but they’ll try to scheme him towards White instead of David

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Switch off with White & David……don’t need to worry about Brees running,,,,,

Key to this game is our Offense & scoring 7 instead of 3s…….

  7. ModHairKen Says:

He’s going to get his yards. Just have to hit him early and get to Brees. Like they did with Rodgers.

And don’t line up 10 yards of the WRs.

  8. bucfanforever Says:

Kamara is how the Saints beat us week 1. My bet is they can figure out how to stop him this time. Plus the Brady attack is 50x stronger now than it was then, so we can actually win a shootout.

  9. Cainishere Says:

Great game in New York team. Here is what I saw. I saw a defensive line struggle to get to Daniel Jones. I saw a secondary put forth a decent effort. I saw the Giants slobber knocking us. I saw Brady inaccurate. I saw Mike Evans trying his heart out. I saw a vanilla offensive scheme and I saw a pass interference flag get picked up on the 2 pt. conversion for the Giants.
We cannot afford to look passed teams in the NFL.
That being said, how are the Saints going to attack us? Simple. Alvin Kamara will be passed to in the flats and underneath. Brees and the crew will attack the middle of the field because Devin White is a liability in pass coverage. It’s no secret, when it comes to playing the run and sacking the QB he is one of the best but his pass coverage is horrid and will be exploited. Look for the Saints to try and exploit Devin. Watch Kamara on the outside as that is where Brees will be going. His shoulder is hurting him and he isn’t going to run much if at all. You must watch for the underneath stuff and some ridiculous trick plays. Can we beat the Saint? Sure we can.
    GO BUCS!!!!

    BINGO!!!

    perfectly said….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  11. Buc4evr Says:

Bowles needs to make Winfield the spy on Kamara for the whole game. Devin just can’t cover Kamara.

  12. WiscoJoe Says:

If Bowles has the corners line up 10 yards off the wide receivers this Joe is going to get an aneurism!!

  13. SlyPirate Says:

Didn’t Winfield get matched up on Kamara in Game 1? I know he covered McCaffery in passing situations extremely well.

  14. Mike Johnson Says:

Kamara should be on Arians mind. he be..A bad boy with that ball. Stop kamara and put mega pressure on Brees. Do these 2 things well and we win. easier said than done though. Bucs need to win by a TD or more. Look at the games the saints have won. They specialize in winning close games.

  15. Anonymous Says:

the key is too force brees to throw down field I have noticed teams like to dink and dunk the bucs which has been effective. 1 more thing get pressure on brees we always struggle against the saints Oline

  16. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

Devin White’s Draft analysis said his weakness was over pursuing and missing tackles, we saw that last game. I think he shows us this game he can make adjustments on improving this area of weakness. Gotta cover AK, i’m fine with David or white but hope they scheme better than last 3 meetings.

Please D. Smith don’t let anyone take your lunch money this game.

    Go BUCS!!

Since this is going on week 9 in the NFL. I figure to go ahead and give my half-way report on what I have seen from our team over all.
Shaq received the franchise tag and isn’t happy about it so he is playing to not get hurt. I have seen the defensive line get after some people but here lately they have slacked up as if someone is just going to hand it to them. They are the best defense seen in a long time, they have to go get that title. I have seen the secondary mature towards being the best. Are they there yet? no but they keep it up and they will be known as a shut down secondary. Penalties on the defensive side of the ball have come down considerably, even “Flags Davis” is doing better.
so the “PLUNDERIN’ D” is getting an A from me. Great job to the coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball.
Now for the Offensive side of things. Many people praise our offense but to be honest it is lack luster. Brady receives way too much credit for this team and he doesn’t seem to want to deflect any of it. I have seen him inaccurate at times and spot on in others. I have a question for Brady, How can you get the ball to Antonio Brown when you are struggling to get the ball to Evans. Evans is a possession receiver who isn’t the fastest receiver in the league. Antonio is fast so is the thought here that Antonio can catch up to your over throws?
Antonio will do one thing for sure and that is draw serious coverage that should free Evans and other targets up to more trickery to confuse defenses.
RoJo, when he steps onto the field defenses automatically think run play, we should be using that to our advantage to trick defenses. Rojo catching balls? the percentages are lower than say Fournette who has a high probability of actually catching it and doing something with it. In the early part of the season I said “all RoJo needs is more explosiveness at the point of contact” and somebody must have told him because ever since I said it he started doing it. RESULTS? 3 100 yard games in a row with touchdowns, now he has reverted back to trying to finesse his way around defenders which he is not good at.
Our receiving corps looks great if Brady can just get them the ball. Our o-line has matured even D. Smith has stopped taking plays off. The penalties minus last game have improved dramatically on the offense and As for as BL and BA’s offensive schemes? Some weeks it’s spectacular and some weeks it’s vanilla. I wonder sometimes if it is that they do not want the opposition to know or have our best stuff on film. Curious. This next draft the Bucs must find a replacement for when Brady is gone and they need one that can sit under Brady for how ever long he decides to actually stay. SO this report is getting rather long so overall I give the team a B+ only because we have yet to beat the likes of the Saints, Chiefs, Rams and Seahawks. Can we beat those teams? I believe that we can compete with them but not at the level we are currently displaying. That’s all for now.
    GO BUCS!!!!

  19. August 1976 Buc Says:

Devin needs to make Kamara wish he touched the ball. Like J Lynch used to he a heat seeking missle. I know John would have gotten alot more flags today because of hits. I am talking clean hits by todays rules, but knocking Kamsra into next week. It is time to step up, and make Kamara flinch. Time to step the defensive game. The Bucs D is good but, they are not as good as they will be as time goes by the next couple of years.GO BUCS!!!! PUT THAT WOODSHED WHOOPIN ON THEM THAT THE SAINTS GOT COMING!!!!!

  20. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

it’s a scary possibility that Marpet might be out because of concussion protocol. i sure hope he’s ok because that left side is gonna be a glaring weakness for the aints to try to exploit.

813….Hopefully D. Smith will give Cam Jordan his money before the game so he leaves him alone.

joe! leaving me hanging this week with no podcasts yet! all four of them!

  23. Will Says:

As we all know the name of the game is to score points. However not sure which Joe wrote this article but the 16yds rushing is great for us, the 51yds receiving again great for us BUT with that said didn’t he score 2TDs, not great for us. Yards doesn’t always tell the entire story.

  24. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

    1976 Agreed!!!!

PUT THAT WOODSHED WHOOPIN ON THEM THAT THE SAINTS GOT COMING!!!!!

  25. Buc1987 Says:

If that’s all they’ve got is Kamara then that’s no problem….but the way our secondary was getting beat by the Gints WR’s…. I worry for them against the Aints. No matter who’s lined up.

    Go Bucs!!!(shhhh Realist shhhh)

  26. BigBucky13 Says:

We already have a lb who can cover so why does White have to cover Kamara? Why not David?

  27. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Dennis Allen

    Saints defensive coord

knows the weakness of the Bucs like no other

    Oline and Leftwich

*Kobe Faker had some outside the body visions last night

the winning QB will be wearing a #2 uniform”

    Kobe Faker

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

That’s all well and good but the best way to beat the Saints is to keep their offense off the field. Run the ball effectively, block well, no dumb penalties, TB and receivers in sinc, score TD’s and not FG’s. Next along the defensive lines is hold the Saints to FG’s and not TD’s. There is enough film on the Saints’ offense to scheme well and stop them. Like I said the other day, this needs to be a statement game where the Bucs beat the Saints down hard, frustrate Sean Payton and keep them from being in the game. Go Bucs!!!

  29. All lives matter Says:

We have to put a spy on Kamara the entire game. The last game we played them he had too many positive plays against us but it was because we didn’t bother to shadow him and he murdered us on those swing passes out of the backfield. Not this time ..put David or White on him the whole game. He may still win some but let’s at least not make it easy for him.

  30. Owlykat Says:

    Agreed!
