Donovan Smith Is Wearing The Dreaded Boot

November 25th, 2020

Joe’s feeling a little ill tonight, a bad sign before inhaling massive amounts of turkey and Big Storm beer.

The nation watched Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith injure his ankle on the first offensive play against the Rams on Monday night. Smith missed a handful of snaps but returned to finish the game.

He did not practice today, but it seems the injury is worse than Bucco Bruce Arians let on at his afternoon news conference. Arians referenced the dreaded “B” word during his visit on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“And Donovan Smith, his ankle, he’s in a boot,” Arians said. “But the one thing about Donnie, you know, he shows up every Sunday and seldom misses a game. I got my fingers crossed.

“We’re sure hoping Ali [Marpet] can come out of this concussion protocol as well as Jamel Dean.”

This is especially rough news now that center A.Q. Shipley has been lost with a serious injury.

Thankfully, the Chiefs’ pass rush, which the Bucs will see on Sunday, is highly suspect.

No matter the hate for DS, he is a warrior. DS is not pro bowl but shows up every game and we need him. The boot is likely trainers protecting further damage or accelerating healing process. Expect to see DS on Sunday.

Well hopefully Marpet gets back. I would have Wells at LT. If no Marpet, I would seriously try Aaron Stinnie at RG since we already have seen Haeg there.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING FELLOW BUC FANS!!!🦃🥧🍻

Hypothetical time. If we don’t have smith, marpet, and the versatility of shipley. Josh wells and either haeg or another guy that has taken all of 5 snaps in his career- protecting a quarterback that already has trouble with pressure…We are f’d. WE WOULD BE ROYALLY F’D. It’s a wrap. Forget playoffs, forget Super Bowl. This season can go right down the drain and turn in to a complete disaster in a hurry.

    🙁

  6. REDZONE BA Says:

We are better w DS than w/o him…. Ali Marpet – keep your brain safe, brother!

  7. Architek Says:

Doesn’t matter when you can’t move the ball or score TDs.

  8. Jeff Says:

Still a chance to win 9 games matching Jameis’ best season in Tampa! Future is bright! 45 year old QB, salary cap problems, aged out D Line and Marpet’s
Career is OVER! Just business as usual for the ya, ya, ya Yucs!

  9. Jeff Says:

Chiefs get minimum of 7 sacks and Brady throws two more picks. Chiefs 40 Bucs 23 in another LAUGHER!

  10. adam from ny Says:

if the line is basically half missing, maybe don’t even throw brady in there…

he’s gonna get tee’d of on and could really get hurt…

with a left side of wells and haeg – that’s awfully dangerous for tom

  11. adam from ny Says:

    geez…

maybe move wirfs to the left side for a game or so

We could always start Griffin. We still don’t know what he’s capable of cos when has he played with the first string O in a game? I’m talking taking serious snaps. Methuselah BA won’t do it cos he didn’t draft him. Bucs will make it to the playoffs. The Stupid Bowl? Nope.

  13. Hodad Says:

Marpet played RG, center, LG, he played LT in college, I say put him at LT. I don’t want Smith on one leg, and Haeg sucks. Put your best linemen at LT if he’s cleared to play.

Smith may have a few bad games a year but no one should ever question his toughness. Way to grit it out DS76.
