Data Reveals Bucs Have 86.4% Likelihood Of Playoffs

November 10th, 2020

Joe has a lot of faith in the Football Outsiders nerds and their computers.

And after running their fancy probability program on the NFC yesterday, interesting data emerged.

Their playoff odds report was run yesterday and the Bucs showed up with likelihood of 10 1/2 wins and an 86.4 percent chance at making the playoffs, with an 18.9 percent shot at winning the NFC South crown.

New Orleans, of course, is sitting with an 80.7 percent shot at winning the division title.

Yes, the Bucs were thoroughly embarrassed Sunday night. Shameful. But they’re also 6-3 with five of their final seven games against losing teams; Carolina (3-6) is next, a team riding a four-game losing streak that plays poorly at home.

The thought of a 10-win season might not excite you, but it sure as hell would have Joe high-fiving strangers and preparing for a playoff game in a year in which three Wild Cards get in from the NFC.

If they play like they did Sunday, they have a 84% of picking in the top-7

  2. Larry Says:

They won’t get far if they keep giving up 38 points a game. The competition only gets tougher in the playoffs. The Bucs got out coached and out played on Sunday night.

  3. MCHammer Says:

Can they rebound these next two weeks? They are a second half team and it was pretty raining and windy by the second half. I’ll give them a pass and chalk it up to bad luck. Don’t want to see any BS this week against the Panthers though. I expect a near flawless game.

  4. August 1976 Buc Says:

Bottom line is the Bucs are relevent despite majorly crapping in the bed on Prime Time. Double digit wins has not happened since the ” the youngry boys” were playing. It is nice to not be all in on the Draft already. GO BUCS!¡!!

  5. Hizzie Says:

Twice now the we’ve looked terrible in primetime games. Guess what the playoffs are prime time games. Everyone’s saying this was a Super Bowl team. The Saints heard that talk and came out to prove a point. The Bucs didn’t even show up. Another thing. Why can’t we scheme guys open? We depend way too much on guys winning at the top of routes. I love Evans he’s a top tier WR. But Lattimore owns him. Tell me the last time 13 had a good game against him?

We have a lot of talent on offense. Find new ways to get the ball to them.

  6. ClwJB Says:

If we don’t get back to running the ball to set up play action, it’s going to get ugly quick. Instead of slowing the game down and getting in rhythm, they kept calling 5 and 7 step drops over and over

TB was skittish after the first play when Wirfs got bulldozed by Cam Jordan

He may have an arm still, but pressure and hits knocks him off his game fast – both NO games and Chi – all 3 losses

That Evans clip in the prior post is prime example – some pressure and he misses a WIDE open TD to force a late sideline throw

  7. Robert Says:

They can get it together, but can the offense and OC learn to use the weapons and use more quick routes and the DC not try to be so gimmickie unless it is needed?

NC is anything but a lock

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Looking at it realistically, we are in contention with the following teams:

Green Bay, Chicago, Seattle, LA, AZ….2 of those will be division winners….

The good news is that they play each other…..some twice. So we only have to have a better record than 1 of them.

We need to win 10…….a victory over the Rams, Lions, 1 of 2 vs Atl & a win over Carolina or Min

    Doable….

I have never posted about SB……..playoffs is the goal….then anything can happen.

  9. Warrenfb12 Says:

Honestly they clearly proved they don’t belong on a playoff stage anyway. With this roster it’s completely unacceptable. It’s one game but it revealed who the real Bucs are.

  10. Nick Says:

The Buc’s defense is awful, I’ve been saying for the longest on here, White can’t cover at all and is an average tackler are best.

You all have been listing to the national media. Our defense has been LUCKY at best.

As for our offense, it’s on the OC , he CAN”T call plays. He doesn’t understand what RUN the ball means. Our WR are NEVER open because we have a bad scheme. Leftwich SUCKS and BA will never beach his friend.

If we get lucky and make the playoff it will be one and done unless we play a team that can’t throw the ball.

  11. Mike C Says:

GB recovered from the waxing we gave them, if we beat KC (not saying that will happen, but the stinking panthers played them tough) everyone is back on the Super bowl train, it’s an overreaction by everyone every week.

  12. adam from ny Says:

everyone from team all the way down to us lowly fans (yes us lowly fans…byron leftwich) have to just forget the game and move on to sunday vs. the panthers…

just stay on schedule, winning three out of 4 in every quarter of the season…

and we shall edge the saints out by one game…

    lose 1…then win 3…stay on schedule…

if they lose on sunday, it’s #ToWongFoo for brady and crew

  13. PSL Bob Says:

I need to see them put up a convincing win to get that disgusting taste out of my mouth. It can be against any team, I don’t care. Just show me you can still dominate another team like you did the Packers. Then maybe I’ll start to believe again. Because right now, my brain is telling me that even if they make the playoffs, it will be a short-lived phenomenon.

  14. D-Rome Says:

Sure they’ll likely make the playoffs but here’s the issue: Now that they’re going to be fighting for a wildcard spot the Bucs would have to win four games in a row to be crowned Super Bowl Champions. The Bucs have not shown they can win four games in a row.

  15. Mike Johnson Says:

Please..enough with the hype. remember how you all said brady was the savior? And I’ll tell yas another thing..its no guarantee these bucs make the playoffs. Mess around and finish 9-7 and see. But I do know this for certain, Our Bucs will be at home sitting in their living rooms, along with the rest of us watching the Superbowl. And that is..a fact.

  16. unbelievable Says:

Who cares. This team is soft, the coodinators don’t know how to make adjustments, and the QB is past his prime.

  17. Buccfan37 Says:

I have lost all confidence that the Bucs can even beat Carolina. Brady looks old, confused and washed up.

  18. Joe in Michigan Says:

A loss sure brings the roaches out of the woodwork. It was one game, a terrible game, but every team has clunkers. So we’ll see.
