Premier Guard?

NextGen data

Yesterday, Joe brought word Bucco Bruce Arians raved about veteran left guard Ali Marpet.

Arians said Marpet is a “top-five guard” and wasn’t sure if anyone was playing better. Data on Marpet from NextGen stats suggests Arians is onto something.

BSPN recently did a breakdown of the top linemen throughout the NFL. The four-letter based its rankings on NextGen stats, official NFL data from computer sensors in players’ equipment that tracks virtually everything from speed to location on the field and movement, including blocking and shedding blocks.

When it comes to run blocking, Marpet has the fifth-best “win rate” of 78 percent (think successful block) in the NFL. To put this number in perspective, the great Quenton Nelson of Indianapolis (who Joe likes a lot) has a win-rate of 80 percent.

In the passing game, Marpet’s win-rate is 95 percent (Nelson is at 96). This is good enough for Marpet to be ranked at No. 9 for all guards in pass blocking.

So yeah, from two different sources, it sure seems Marpet is having his best season and who knows, perhaps a Pro Bowl will be coming?

The appropriate individual accolades will come if they keep winning and make the playoffs.

From the looks of it he’s also one of the few that’s on both of those lists.

Might be his best season yet but he’s bin a stud since he came into the league. Remember how much they changed his position and he still dominates.

The Eagles have the worst line in the NFL with their injuries. How do they get 2 players on this list?

Dunno, not a NASA engineer (not trying to be a wiseacre). A former NASA engineer designed NextGen stats.

Again, that’s raw data coming from computer sensors on players’ equipment.
