Playing Scared Or Poorly Coached?

October 9th, 2020

The picture tells the story.

The Bucs had the ball and 36 seconds remaining in the first half, and two timeouts, with Mike Evans, Scotty Miller and Rob Gronkowski on the field and Tom Brady at quarterback.

And what did they do?

They ran left for seven yards and didn’t hustle back to the line of scrimmage. Rob Gronkowski even raised both hands at once in apparent disbelief as he looked at the sideline. And then the Bucs threw underneath to the 39 yard line as the clock ticked, and then they burned a timeout with 8 seconds remaining.

The next play was incomplete and Tampa Bay took a knee with three seconds remaining and ran into the locker room — with the Bears getting ball to start the third quarter.

It was embarrassing. “No Risk It. No Biscuit.” was replaced by a soggy English Muffin.

It’s squarely on the shoulders of Bucco Bruce Arians and Tom Brady. That level of disorganization should never happen. It represented a total lack of preparation, in-game coaching and savvy.

Coaches love to talk about situational football. That situation should never play out like that again. That’s not why Team Glazer is paying Brady and Arians’ giant staff a fortune of cash.

Was pretty clear Evans and Miller weren’t themslevws tonight. Hopefully they didn’t set themselves back any further on their recovery. Losing Vea really sucks… Hopefully not more than a few games…

  2. AwShbucs Says:

Still no mention of the roughing the passer call that completely changed the game and flipped field position for the Bears… Boooo! I boo you sir!

  3. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

BA and BL seemed to think it wasn’t worth trying to push quickly down the field. Seems like Brady is fighting uphill against poor coaching. Ultimately it was on Brady not realizing it was 4th down, but he’s not getting any help from his coaches at all. #predictable #fireleftwich

  4. August 1976 Buc Says:

Both Joe, poor coaching and scared 2 for 1 GO BUCS!!!

  5. bucfanforever Says:

You have to push it there when the other team just stole your biscuits (with generous help from the zebras).

  6. Bangkok Buc Says:

Brutal coaching today on both sides of the ball.
Last Bears scoring play, Bowles has Corners playimg 10 yards off on 3rd down, east 1st down. If Bucs make that stop, Bears don’t make FG and Vea doesn’t get carted off field. Sooooooo bad

  7. Idahobucfan Says:

Simply terrible play calling in the second half, not to mention the fact that the NFL seems to have chosen a winner before the game started.

  8. TampaTown Says:

Playing scared or poorly coached? Why can’t it be both because it was

  9. Bird Says:

    There is the one joe

Not a surprise there ndog. I mean joe or his buddy
    Get over yourself

So reluctant to put a game on jameis
Bad game = jameis had a mixed game

Yet. Its brady now and coach

    😂

  10. Patrick Says:

Why weren’t we ever this critical when Jameis interceptis threw away so many games for us the previous 5 years? It’s one game and we have the greatest QB of the era in charge; relax

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The call that bothered me was going for 3 late in the game on 4th & 1…….we should have gone for 7……if we didn’t convert, then rely on our defense to get the ball back rather than relying on them to stop Chicago from a winning FG.

    Backfired…..

  12. TampaTown Says:

The Refs repeatedly tried to give this game to the Bears. And they succeeded

  13. bucfanforever Says:

    Pop quiz:

Any one know why Jimmy Graham had to make a one handed touchdown catch)?

That’s right, he was extending the other hand to gain separation.

  14. Coburn Says:

Can’t believe brady didn’t get a couple late hit calls himself. C’mon man. Lol despite being Brady he’s getting the Tampa treatment

  15. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Both Miller and Evans are playing hurt joe.

That would explain a lot of this. we almost had to cart Fournette on a bad ankle out there.

  16. Pelsbuc61 Says:

This is the part of the season when I usually check out bc it’s the same Bucs beating Bucs and bad coaching year after year. No discipline and no players rise up. JBF, you’re right. Bad coaching and playing not to lose. This team does not know how to hammer an opponent much less play for 60 minutes.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

Patrick…exactly 3-2. Calm down everyone… lots of football to be played ….and
    watched.

Especially YOU Ndog…if you say you’re TRUE BLUE Bucs fan.

  18. Ndog Says:

    WHAT A LEADER!!!!!

Also this great leader walked off the field without even congratulating the other team.

    What a leader!!!!!!

  19. REDZONE BA Says:

    REMEDY – THROW to ME13!

  20. Coburn Says:

Agree tbbf.. we should have went for it . I mean damn we almost turbed it over at our own 20 earlier but worst thAy would have happened is they get it at like their 7 …

Def shoulda ran the ball more but I guess penalties killed that chance at times… We really missed out studs on 3rd down.. clearly Evans and Miller weren’t right. Guess they pulled Hudson after he missed that block. He kept getting missed early but was getting open and just started getting going

  21. Buc1987 Says:

Pelsbuc61…you must be old…cause I just turned 50 and I think I got it all figured out then along comes your comment. lol

  22. Coburn Says:

Wirfs was due for a rough game and Mack is as good as they come. Hell bounce back. Smith was garbage

  23. bucfanforever Says:

The biggest thing that got to me is that the Bears played with an enforcer-like attitude, and it made the Buc’s seem petrified to take the field. Bowles’ defense relies on finesse and quickness, but no one is scared of them.

  24. Jeffbuc Says:

I don’t know about this game. It just doesn’t feel right. I feel like we were hosed. There was so many questionable calls against us in key situations. How can you throw 3 flags for defenseless receiver. Call no penalty and give the ball to the other team. Offsides by Barrett when the left guard clearly moves first. And the roughing the passer as Barrett hit him as the ball was still in his hand. Did t hit him low or in the helmet. This was the worst officiated game I have seen ever. It looked like the nba and lebron James. Lower your head full speed against anybody foul on them. Yell at the ref and fake a concussion while not playing defense only to get a cherry picker dunk and all is fine again. Lebron looks to be seriously injured. Oh he takes the full court pass and dunks it in. Last foul no longer hurts. We see how the nba is doing don’t turn my nfl into that PLEASE. I really think the refs are there to help a controlled outcome. Never thought that way and would have said bs. We should have won that game 30-13 if the whistle was blew fairly.

  25. adam from ny Says:

maybe they were banged up, won 3 in a row and have 10 days to prepare heavily for green bay at home…

    so…

they didn’t prepare at all with the short week and maybe arians said “let’s wing it, the sheety bears should be due for a loss…let’s just go in, wing it and see if we can steal on without heavy duty prepping”…

    who knows

  26. Buc1987 Says:

Ndog I’ll ask again you coward…

Ndog do you understand that Jameis Winston is never coming back and if so how long do you think your foolishness will continue if you say you are a Bucs fan?

  27. Buc1987 Says:

    Ndog Says:

    “WHAT A LEADER!!!!!

Also this great leader walked off the field without even congratulating the other team.

    What a leader!!!!!!”

Versus 6 time SB Champion Tom Brady… Ndog you ARE an IDIOT as usual… after this ONE point loss.

  28. Sport Says:

We are banged up. The refs were slanted. We played poorly. We lost Vea for the season. Got indisciplined. Have a run game. Have a kicker.

Has there ever been a good Thursday night game after playing on Sunday? Thursday night football is always a S___ Show.

We need some rest. The NFL season is a relentless marathon.

    3-2

Convalesce – come back….and kick some ass!

    In BA I Trust!

  29. Youngbucs Says:

Tht roughing call flip the field position I don’t give a f$ck

  30. Bucsfan951 Says:

BOTH! Coaches are scared which in turn leads to horrible play calling. It’s been this way for ever it seems like.

Bucs had rojo who averaged over 6 yards per carry, stacked the box and ran the ball for a loss of 2 yards. They got scared, played right into the bears hand and tossed 2 incompletions. Wasted only 16 seconds off of the clock and gave the bears the ball back WITH 2 timeouts.

It was a hard fought game that was lost on that drive by an incompetent play caller. Out coached indeed!

  31. Coburn Says:

I also thought the pass interference against Davis was crappy. You telling me any received can be flying down the field and suddenly come to a dead stop so the corner runs into him and it’s a penalty? In that case miller should do that all the time

  32. unbelievable Says:

Fk that! Every fan should be downright pissed at what they witnessed tonight:

A collective failure from the coaching staff on down to almost every player on the field if not more.

And if BA had even half the balls he pretends to, he would start calling out the refs and NFL for blatantly throwing games.

14 points off of completely bogus penalties that would have been punts otherwise

  33. Buc1987 Says:

    unbelievable…you’re right…but oh well.

  34. Bucsalltheway Says:

Coburn if you know football you cant engage with the wr unless you e both looking back at the ball to make a play on it but if the receiver is eyes on the ball and the corner isnt 9 times out of 10 penalty is gonna be called. Especially if ball I’d thrown in that direction

  35. Soggy Says:

Really hope for the saints to lose monday, if you are really a bucs fan?

  36. EA Says:

This was a pathetically coached game on so many levels, just when you think this team is building momentum and figuring things out they never fail to disappoint you. You can’t make this stuff up.

  37. unbelievable Says:

I know 87, just need to vent.

I’m so sick of watching sloppy football and poor coaching week in and week out. Going on over a goddamn decade now.

  38. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The referees cost is that game, especially with the bad call against Barrett for roughing the passer.

  39. Why O Why Says:

Too many mistakes tonight on both sides of the ball, coaching, play calling and the men in black. We should have won this game. 😔 Hard to watch and forget about this one. 👀 I would love to blame Jameis … but he was nowhere around.

  40. Ed Says:

The NFL needs to replace the unit that referred the game last night. Certainly the most lopsided officiating ever seen in all my years of watching Bucs games. Usually there are 1 or 2 horrible calls a game, I’m used to it.

The refs protected Nick Foles while on the other side of the ball Tom Brady was hit multiple times after getting rid of the ball. The Barrett hit on Foles as he was falling backwards and timed perfectly upon release was simply a no call. Anyone can see that there was no leading with the helmet, no throwing him to the ground and no roughness. Just a clean hit that is normal when a quarterback is under a good pass rush.

A few questionable calls that put the Bucs in 1st and 30. The offsides call when it was a false start. Those are unimaginable misses by the refs. The NFL cannot let officials miss calls like that.

That was truly the worst officiating ever. Never again should a football game have such incompentant calls change the momentum of a game. I believe the Bucs played a bad game, they didn’t deserve to win but they did have the Bears offense under control until the officials gave them life when good officials would never have missed those 2 calls on Barrett.

  41. Oneilbucs Says:

Let’s not look for a scapegoat because yall blaming Leftwich now . Brady went through the same thing Jamies went through the pass 4 years and yall still blamed Jamies . At least Brady has a 100 yard rushing runningback . Jamies had only 2 100 yard rushing in 4 years . It was a bad game and we all knew Brady couldn’t move when we signed him . He has to have a perfect pocket for him to be good . So lest not give Brady a pass and blame everyone else for this game . We lost as a hold team just like the last 5 years when yall blamed Jamies for ever lost .

  42. Dapostman Says:

The Bucs will go as far as the OL takes them. Against playoff caliber front 7’s they are going to be in trouble. They can make the playoffs but I just don’t see a deep playoff run.

  43. SufferingSince76 Says:

And we will continue to blame Jameis because he’s not even good enough to be a pimple on Tom Brady’s butt!!!
