Offense Busts The 30-Point Barrier

October 26th, 2020

Joe wrote many, many times over the summer that if Tom Brady could simply get the Bucs scoring another two points per game, then the Bucs would be assured a playoff berth and fans would be doing backflips on Redington Beach.

Why? History says so.

Today the Bucs rank third in the NFL averaging a whopping 31.7 points per game.

Last year, they also ranked third for the entire season with 28.6 points per game, despite a quarterback who gave the ball away like mini-Snickers on Halloween, no kicking game and a shameful rushing attack.

Consider that through the past 10 NFL seasons, a total of 18 teams have averaged 30 or more points in a season. (Joe’s including two that finished with an average of 29.9 points per game).

Here’s the list:

2019 Ravens 33.2, 49ers 29.9
2018 Chiefs 35.3, Rams 32.9, Saints 31.5
2017 Rams 29.9
2016 Falcons 33.8
2015 Panthers 31.3, Cardinals 30.6
2014 Packers 30.4, Broncos 30.1
2013 Broncos 37.9
2012 Patriots 34.8, Broncos 30.1
2011 Packers 35.0, Saints, 34.2, Patriots, 32.1
2010 Patriots 32.4

Every single one made the playoffs.

Tom Brady’s done it three times and Bucco Bruce Arians did it once (2015).

So the evidence says 30 points per game gets you in the playoffs. Is it any surprise the Bucs are 5-2?

And they’ve managed to get there through various receiver injuries and Tom Brady incessantly saying he hasn’t had enough time yet with his new teammates.

For Joe, that doesn’t smell like a need for the stink that is Antonio Brown, but Bucs fans won’t have to whiff that for another week.

  3. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Jay Miss only threw 30 picks last year. Brady is the luckiest QB in the history of the league and is on pace to throw WAY more than that. Oh wait…..Ummm…..NDog?

Who is this AB joe keeps writing about..Lol

AB should break the 30 felonies threshold soon.

  8. SMDH Says:

Good thing Gruden isn’t still coaching this team. He wouldn’t know how to use more than one good WR on the field at a time!

  9. mark2001 Says:

And maybe turn the ball over half as much.

  10. Mike C Says:

Wow, this place is so nice without all of the idiodic trolls.

  11. Mitch Says:

Should be nice. Hopefully we can keep all the personalities in check. Fournette is currently on Twitter lamenting that he needs more touchdowns with a bunch of emojis. Not sure if he is whining or making a statement that he wants to get into the end zone more.

  12. Rio de Janeiro Bucs Fan Says:

    @ Mike, you’re absolutely right!!!
Besides a winning record and a winning culture, Tom Brady managed to set us free from “Realisto” and all the other idiots who used to infest this great site.

  13. Allbuccedup Says:

With the number #1 defense in the nfl and Tom Brady a SuperBowl championship is within reach.

  14. Barbosa Says:

Joe put up an AB poll, I’m willing to bet most fans think this is a mistake.

  15. SB Says:

I keep coming to article after article hoping to get some of Ndog’s logical explanations of what is happening right now.

  16. Leighroy Says:

Very fun fact! However I must point out that the Bucs are one of 7 teams above the 30.0 pts per game mark. Offense is up league wide, plus it’s only 7 games in.

Let’s pump the brakes on all the paper champion statistics and let this marinate a few more weeks. I trust the Bucs will still be rolling (defensively as well) but the season is still young.

So while I can’t wait to see what improvement from this point looks like, bc this team has still not reached its potential and has room to grow further, we all are just going to have to.

  17. Bucfanforever Says:

Not a single one of those listed teams won the Super Bowl the year they averaged over 30 points. A lot, 6, of them played and lost in it though. Defense wins championships. Go Bucs!

    ,,,,,,,,,,

Um……Joe doesn’t like it either. You make it sound like Joe made the deal.

Regardless of whether ANY of us like it or not it is done.
Get with the program or get out.

Although the Bucs offense is 3rd in points, they are 15th in yards. Goes to show how a great defense helps the offense, plus being able to finish in the redzone.

How many points did the Bucs score against the Bears? 19. That is a long way from 31.7 Anyone want to start a playoff game, or any big game with Scotty Miller and Tyler Johnson? How far are they going to go. Glad to see the Bucs want to step on the gas and go for it. A whole lot of emotion is causing people to just see the negative possibility. Somehow it is etched in stone, that AB is going to destroy this team. It is not etched in stone. So many people have prejudged negative. This guy is a piece to a championship puzzle. Like it or not he is being given a chance. There is not one person here can say anything factually about AB screwing up as a Buccaneer. Fact is HAS done nothing wrong as a Buc. Fact is AB is a stud athlete that can bring depth to this team. 19 points a game is a long way from 31.7 The point average will most likely increase when AB is contributing to this team making a championship run. GO BUCS!!!! SUPER BOWL EXPRESS IS ROLLIN BABY!!!!!!

  21. Howard Cosell Says:

Joes should take a page from Facebook, Twitter and Youtube and just censor everyone who complains about Antonio Brown LOLOL

listening to the talking heads today talking about the Bucs… the question was asked could JW have won with this team… the guys agreed the answer is NO!! he would already have 15 ints by now…. cracked me up…

they have the right guy at QB and they seem balanced on both sides of the ball.. What a great time to be a Bucs fan!

What thrills me is putting the throttle down and leaving it there. Up by 18 in the 4th – yeah let’s put up another 14. Few minutes left up big on 3rd and goal and we’re in shotgun. Tight your shoes and step on their throat.

LOL LOL LOL “I can’t deny the way he’s playing. It’s not just that he has weapons, he has looked really good using them,” Kellerman said.

“I was wrong. Tom Brady never fell off a cliff.”

lol lol lol and no max do not try that ravine crap either lol lol
Tom Brady — The GOAT, the GOLD Standard career for QB’s. Mr 6 Rings. Played in 9 Super Bowls. Culture changer in Tampa. Mahome boy is the best QB today, but for a career, Brady is the man. Pat please win at least win 4 like Montana the former GOAT before we begin to call you the GOAT. GO BUCS!!! SUPER BOWL EXPRESS IS ROLLIN BABY!!!!!!!!

  27. Bill M Says:

In the first s t few games Brady looked off. The past few games he has looked really on. Hope this level of play is the real Brady who con TY inues to throw sharp spirals on short to medium throws and deft touch on deep throws to Scotty and Gronk etc. I was very surprised how sharp the Raiders passing attack was especially in the first half. Too many running free and easy. Bucs D made adjustments as the game wore on.

  28. Boston Boy Says:

Tsk tsk. Joe turns out to be a hater disguised as s fan. Bravely casting stones in anonymity. Joe, you are getting smaller by the blog. Stop letting Antonio Brown live rent free your head.

  29. All lives matter Says:

No Way Jaboo gets us to 31.7 points a game

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Antonio Brown will be a complete non-factor when all is said and done.

He’s not just a locker room cancer. He’s an alleged rapist. People didn’t give Jameis a pass for it. AB should not get one, especially when he could be yanked by the commish at any time.

In the end, signing him will have been a waste of money.

  31. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I could see Winston getting us to 31.7 points per game.

The problem is he would still cost us wins with key turnovers.

That is something I believe he will overcome eventually…perhaps while with the Saints. Working with Brees has to do him some good.

I have a feeling he’ll become a thorn in our side over the coming years, but that’s a problem for the future.

  32. SlyPirate Says:

Joe’s dug a deep a hole on AB.

If we does well and keeps his nose clean, Joe will need to create a clever Joe moniker. Here’s a thought …

“The Big Ben Despising, Couch throwing, WR that Joe complete crapped on before he even walked into the building, after loving the serial offender Winston for five years, Antonio Brown.”

    Your welcome.
