Godwin Injury May Not Be So Minor

October 29th, 2020

May miss Saints game, too.

There were depressing words yesterday about the status of Pro Bowl Bucs receiver Chris Godwin.

The Penn State product broke a finger in the win over the Raiders and had to have surgery. As a result, he will miss Monday night’s game in New Jersey. And Arians didn’t sound too hip to the chance Godwin could return against the Saints a week from Sunday at the Den of Depression.

“I was totally surprised by [Godwin’s injury] when we got back [from Las Vegas],” Arians said. “He looked fine leaving the stadium and we find out he has to have surgery.

“I think it’s very optimistic that he’ll be back in a week, but it could be possible. We don’t know, really, how long. Again, that’s why we have the insurance policy.”

That sure doesn’t sound promising for Godwin returning in a week, or maybe even two weeks.

Since Monday should be a cupcake game, Joe looks upon it as a chance for Tyler Johnson to get more quality targets.

Yeah any time you have surgery on your finger, it’s probably serious.
Fans here take it for granted because Evans plays hurt and because Jameis Winston threw for 5,109 yds and was second in the NFL in TD all while playing with a broken thumb and several other injuries. This was right before the team kicked him to the curb. Now I’m in favor of Brady, he’s clearly amazing, but this is true so just remember how tough the dude was.

    And check yo sheet!

  3. Clean House Says:

    Reigning NFL passing leader.

  4. Joe in Michigan Says:

    Mr. Godwin: Get well soon!

Clean House: That was last year. Time to move on. Anything else is whining.

  5. Darin Says:

Ok cleanhouse I’ll remember it for you. Lots of yards and injuries. Got it.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

“Cupcake game”? The only cupcake games I can remember were called ‘forfeits’ Joe. And the cupcake games the Bucs ever played in had them as the cupcake. Giants have played some tough teams this season & played several of them close. ASSUME NOTHING!

I’m not sure how y’all got ‘Godwin Injury May Not Be So Minor’ out of what BA said based on the quotes. His reported quote: “I think it’s very optimistic that he’ll be back in a week, but it could be possible. We don’t know, really, how long.” Maybe if BA had added “I’m not a doctor but” before his statement it would’ve put it in better perspective?

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

Don’t expect any sympathy from the Giants, this is no “gimme” game.
    Get well soon Chris!

AB will be the #1 HEALTHY receiver. Everyone seems so sure about Mike and Chris being able to suit up week to week. That just is not a reasonable assumption, and that is all it is, an assumption. Brady needs actual bodies on the field that can play at a high level. He has been hamstrung all year. The vaunted MASH unit has not been reliable this season. Do I hope they will be able to be full go, yes I do, but lets get real, throw the emotions out the window. The walking wounded WR MASH unit needed help. SUPER BOWL OR BUST!!!! GO BUCS!!!!

This is a cruel reality check, to put emotion aside, Chris will miss his 7th game in last 11, and now possibly 8 of the last 12. Again all the negative emotion about AB, and I get it, but this is NFL, a violent collision sport, that is the reality of this sport. Get well Chris, and speedy recovery. This team is a legitimate Super Bowl contender in 2020 and need all hands on deck. GO BUCS!!!!!

  9. Dreambig Says:

I agree, No such thing as a cupcake game or a gimme game in the NFL. Fortunately the Players in interviews seem to be taking the giants seriously.

  10. Big Stinky Says:

    Clean House

Don’t act like you are in favor of Brady bringing up SHAMELESS and his stats last year. You clearly wish he was here. We all argued for the last 5 years over how good he ACTUALLY was and the verdict is in. He was the first QB to throw 30 picks in 35 years and the ONLY one to let 7 of them get returned for TD’S in 100 years. Those 2 stats say it will be hard for him to EVER limit the INT’s he throws but be my guest. You sound like you should be a Taints fan, maybe in that offense he can limit the number of times he turns the ball over.

  11. #1bucfan Says:

This is the nfl joe. No game is a cupcake game. I really hope the Bucs ain’t thinking like you. Last time we thought we beat a team before we played them we lost. Then again we didn’t have Brady last year lol

  12. August 1976 Buc Says:

Jameis has undeniable talent. But too many times he was the best player for both teams. I hope he does well just not against the Bucs.

BUT……. He was the first QB to throw 30 picks in 35 years and the ONLY one to let 7 of them get returned for TD’S in 100 years. YIKES!!!

To lead the league in Turnovers by a wide margin for a 5 year period of time shows Jameis played his way OUT of Tampa Bay. Everyone is seeing what it looks like when the Master, GOAT is playing QB compared to what we witnessed for the last 5 years with Jameis. Wow!! What a reality check. Again I hope Jameis one day gets it. But the Jury is still out. GO BUCS!!!! THE NFC CHAMPIONSHIP ROLLS THROUGH TAMPA!!!!!!

  13. BillyBucFan Says:

    Enough with Jameis already.
This is a winning team now so who cares about past QBs.

  14. SmoothBayRider Says:

I want to show Clean House and NDog the fade . I’ll even let it be a handicap match .

  15. The Coroner Says:

Finger fracture probably requiring pinning and back playing any football especially wide receiver in a week. Not.

  16. Allbuccedup Says:

Looks like no pro bowl for Evans or Godwin, maybe Brady.

  17. Casual Observer Says:

“Cupcake game.” Poor choice of words. Take it seriously. One game at a time.

  18. Bucsboi239 Says:

We’re in good shape with the receivers we have left on the roster… If we bolster the secondary with free agency this week then as a team we have no weaknesses.

  19. August 1976 Buc Says:

Brady lost 2 Super Bowls to the G-Men, so he is going to be his adamant self about playing with excellence and getting better. I do not expect them to show a whole lot to opponents in having to win this game. But still AT LEAST a 14 point win. Yes there are no cup cakes in the NFL, but when this is over, it will seem like a very business like win. GO BUCS!!!!!! THE SUPER BOWL EXPRESS IS ROLLING THROUGH NY THIS WEEK!!!!!!!

  20. 813bucboi Says:

the previous qb tossed 24INTs when he was healthy……lol…

6 when he had a boo boo on his thumb….lol…

    JW IS A BUST!!!!!!….thats the only truth….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  21. Wayne PEREZ Says:

I think 4 weeks min. Unfortunately

  22. D-Rome Says:

Joe looks upon it as a chance for Tyler Johnson to get more quality targets.

You’re right, Joe. I’m going to be making up a Thurs – Monday DK lineup just so I can get Tyler Johnson in there. I normally only play the Sunday main slate.

  23. Allbuccedup Says:

If Monday is a cupcake game lets give Gabbert some reps in case Brady gets hurt. Rest Evans and Gronk.

  24. Dingo Dubois Says:

Please don’t call anything a cupcake game. Let’s not jinx things. The giants, although bad, play hard. They haven’t given up yet. Keep our eyes on Monday.

  25. Allbuccedup Says:

Your right Dingo just came off a big win and the Saints a week from Sunday there is a chance of overconfidence in this sandwich game or cupcake game.

  26. PSL Bob Says:

Defense Rules, you beat me to it. No such thing as a Cupcake Game in the NFL. Should we win? Yes, definitely. But a lot of bad stuff can unfold in a game (turnovers, injuries, bad calls by the refs, etc.). Just play to win, and things should be ok. But, never, never, never take any game for granted!

  27. Elita Vita Says:

    Fun Fact : Interceptions 2020:

    TOM BRADY: 4
    JAMEIS WINSTON: 0

  28. bojim Says:

Missing all these games might have some effect on his contract talks. Regardless, we need him back.

  29. Swampbuc Says:

PLEASE DON’T CALL THE GIANTS GAME A CUPCAKE GAME! This is the NFL. This is exactly the scenario where the toad turns into a prince(ss) and ruins our vibe. I hope Arians is pounding the OL especially, to be ready for the kitchen sink. They’ll throw everything at Brady. They have nothing to lose — so what if they give up a big play or two? And Daniel Jones looked like John Elway in the second half of last year’s GaythekickerShank game. Including the 4th and goal QB run into the endzone for the go ahead touchdown where he went UNTOUCHED.

This is far from a cupcake game precisely because the Bucs have beaten two quality opponents in a row and are everyones’ darlings for the Super bowl.

  30. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Love having ME13 on the field, but with Fournette better and Tyler Johnson healthy I’m almost in favor of having Mike suit up just as an emergency WR. Go run heavy with both RB’s to open up some passing opportunities for Scotty, Ty, Watson as well as Gronk and Brate. Every game is important but next week with the Saints carries division winning importance. Evans needs a chance for the ankle to get better.

  31. Buc4ever Says:

Godwin will be out for awhile. If he had to have a plate and screws, then open incision with maybe 6 weeks or more out of the game.

  32. Clean House Says:

Tyler Johnson looking good, let the kid be more involved. Get J Wat back in the mix

Let Evans rest work in AB slowly

More tanner and Brate less Gronk

    Let these dudes heal up

  33. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Again Says:

Bucsfanman my man!!! But but but we got Antonio Brown now!!!🤷‍♂️🏈

  34. buc15 Says:

Well at least Clean House is NDOGs attempt to move on and be a backs fan. Still a struggle, but at least he is trying.

  35. unbelievable Says:

I didn’t expect him to play vs the Giants or Saints when I heard the news yesterday.

Surgery on your hand isn’t something that just heals in a few days… and he’s a wide receiver! Not like a lineman who could play with a club…

  36. Mark2001 Says:

And people wonder why we signed an insurance policy… Sheesh.
