Bowles Gets Honored

October 20th, 2020

Bucs DC/magician Todd Bowles.

How well did the Bucs slap around and suffocate future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers? Joe will tell you.

The dominance of the Bucs defense even got the attention of a man in Brooklyn better known as hot-dog-eating-contest-protestingmock-draft-scowlingL.L. Bean-wearingSecond Amendment abolitionistMike-Florio-arguingparrot-insensitivechewing-with-his-mouth-opensoup-gulpingCalifornia-train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal-picture-takingvideo-game-playingTaylor-Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft-beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-trainingBudweiser-tolerantbaseball scorecard-keeping, pasta-feasting, vomit-dodging scrooge, Kay-Adams-following, social activist and NFL insider Peter King of NBC Sports.

King did research Sunday night — including talking to Bucs corner Jamel Dean — and came away impressed with how Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles crafted a defensive scheme to bury Rick Rude-flexing Rodgers.

Todd Bowles, defensive coordinator, Tampa Bay. Bowles told his defenders during the week that, yes, Aaron Rodgers was the best they’d face, by far, and motivated his players to work hard away from the facility to learn Packer tendencies. That, Jamel Dean said, was one of the keys to him knowing exactly what Rodgers would do in certain formations. The resulting 32-yard Dean pick-six got the Bucs back in the game early. For the game, Tampa held Green Bay to 201 total yards (what is this, the ’88 Packers?) and a putrid 3.3 yards per play. Great design by Bowles.

Man, if the Bucs defense can rattle Rodgers, who will be in Canton some day, imagine what it can do to an insecure guy like Derek Carr?

Could what the Bucs did Sunday be the start of a defensive avalanche for the rest of the season?

Show the world that Sunday wasn’t a fluke. Bury the Raiders!

One little list item in how great our defense was is that yet again, CarltonDavis took on another top reciever and sent him away with a lousy day amd generic statline……..Deservedly so that Catltongets overlooked. Our passrush dropped Rodger so many times hes still probably trying to remove the grass from his teeth.

Good thing you aren’t in the Newspaper business Joe…….that moniker for King would eat up some newsprint.

As for Derek Carr…..we’ll have to bring our A game again.

  4. CrackerBall Says:

Had a great DEF week, no doubt… need to continue building on that. Raiders are no joke either, so we’ll keep fingers crossed.

Last week Bowles was the Devil today is god!!!
Sick and tired of this style……Patience, thats all, we will be fine!!!

    lets keep stacking Ws!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  7. Buddha Says:

Carr is completing 70 per cent of his passes and was unstoppable against the Super Bowl winning Chiefs. This will be a challenge. Jon hasn’t forgotten how he was trashed by the Buccaneers’ front Office.

  8. Bucsfanman Says:

Lets get that offense to REALLY show up and play some complementary football!

  9. Buc Bro Says:

Carr has 11 TD’s and 1 INT (he does have 4 lost fumbles) so I don’t expect many turnovers from him. I expect Gruden to try to control the clock, run the ball, short passes and control the LOS with their big line.

Gruden might be awful at drafting but he’s a good game planner and play caller. Bucs blitzes and pass rush needs to bring it, again this week. This week is gonna be fun!!! GO BUCS!!!

I liked learning more about Bowles time at temple recently from Michael Lombardi on Hammer Dahn. He talked about Bowles as a walk on player, how smart he is, & his former coach (can’t remember name) who was the one Bowles has modeled some of his defensive concepts after because of just how difficult and confusing to the offense it was. Lombardi shared that during that time teams stole signs all the time but it was impossible to steal this coaches signs on defense because one small sign meant five different types of coverages. It was a cool story and ended with that’s why Bill Parcels hired TB.

I love the positive posts and energy in Buc land.

  14. Iamabuc Says:

Ok, don’t get me wrong . I understand and know how good Gruden is at football…. not to be underestimated. But I read people here scared of Choky and his “swashbucklers”; forgetting we have Arians “Marauder’s” this time. Stop with the crap! I said they’ll beat the Packers and did. I see Chucky’s gang as an easier win. Just my take.

  15. SB Says:

    I am gonna miss Ndog.

    NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Darin Says:

West coast trips don’t always end like home afternoon games. They’ll need another game with few penalties and turnovers. I’ll be counting on it

  17. JimBuc2 Says:

@IAMABUC. Agreed we can take home a win from LV. Gruden’s animosity and hubris will be his downfall. Sure, he’s got a hardon for the Glazers, but I don’t think that alone will get Chuck the revenge he so craves. I like our roster a lot better. We got the horses, Chucky not so much.
    Go RoJo
    Go Bucs

  18. CalBucsFan Says:

I have a lot of family and friends out here in CA that are Raiders fans, so I watch a lot of their games too.

The Raiders are a VERY GOOD team that has won against the Saints at home and the Chiefs on the road. So, the Bucs better not take them lightly. Jacobs and Ruggs are REAL good athletes and Carr knows how to put touch on his passes that lead to a lot of YAC.

Please SS and FS’s, be alert! Go Bucs!

Enough of all the accolades. It’s over and move on. Focus on sunday and replicate the discipline that happened against the Packers.

  21. orlbucfan Says:

Chucky Gruden is an egomaniacal ahole who lucked out and won the SB with Tampa Bay. Sorta weird as he was the coach of the Oakland Raiders when Malcolm Glazer wooed him to Tampa. Who did the Bucs pay in the SB the next year? The Oakland Raiders. Gruden was never worth a plugged nickel as a Bucs coach after that season. Screw him and I hope the Bucs kick his team’s azz.

  22. Defense Rules Says:

CalBucsFan … I agree that the Raiders are a VERY GOOD team that the Bucs better bring their A-game for. I was at the game last time we played them … Sunday, Oct 30 2016. That was a slugfest like I’d never seen before, and one that the Raiders won 30-24 in Overtime. Raiders offense … led by the same Derek Carr … had 94 offensive snaps & piled up 626 yds of total offense to our 270 yds. Carr threw for 513 yds (40 for 50 and 4 TDs).

The ONLY reason the game was close was because the Raiders had 23 penalties for 200 yds, yet they still won. Actually the Bucs went ahead with less than 4 mins to go, but Carr brought them back to tie it with about a minute & a half to go, then threw the winning TD almost at the end of OT. Like I said earlier, a true slugfest. I expect the same in this Sunday’s game.

  23. ArmchairGM Says:

    FYI Joe,

The celebration was from a Key & Peele skit. The football player, Hingle McCringleberry, was allowed two pumps without getting a flag for excessive celebration (lol remember that rule?). Instead of a flag, the Bucs defense shut him down the rest of the game. I’m looking for another good outing from them this Sunday. I want to see consistency.

  24. hammerhead Says:

Defensive avalanche? One game doesn’t make a season and it’s hard to keep up those kind of dominant performances. Every week is different. Let’s just hope they keep playing consistently and make things difficult every week. Keep that up and we ought to finish with 10 or 11 wins, maybe more.

  25. Colin in Canada Says:

    Vid on new DT McLendon.

  26. Brad Says:

Insecure? Come on man. Let’s not pretend that Chicky won’t hAve them ready and a good game plan.

  27. Middle-aged guy Says:

My biggest observation of the two QB’s this week was how Brady has no wrinkles on his face compared to Rodgers. Just a random observation from a dude who is getting older.

  28. August 1976 Buc Says:

The Bucs are better than the Raiders. Play sound game and they win again period. Make mistakes and it opens the door for the other team. Pretty simple. Time to smash D Car like they did Arod. The Raiders will be ready, but like J Gruden said after that Falcon win in the super bowl season, ” the greatness of this defense lies ahead” the same goes for the 2020 version. They are legit. GO BUCS!!!!.
