“At Least I Don’t Have To Go Back There And Cuss Them Out”

October 13th, 2020

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians

The nation witnessed last Thursday night the intensity of park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting Bucs quarterback Tom Brady when he read the riot act to his offensive linemen for poor play and penalties.

Some might think that’s a turnoff for players and Brady may alienate teammates. Others wonder what kind of example Brady sets when, after he tears into his teammates for mistakes, he pulls a Chris Webber and forgets he ran through four downs.

So Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians was asked for his take on Brady going bananas. It seems Arians is cool with this, in part because it saves Arians some work.

“That’s just being yourself,” Arians said. “I don’t have any problem with it. At least I don’t have to go back there and cuss them out. They’ve already got an earful by the time I get over there.

“Tom has got to be Tom. I’m not going to ask him to be somebody different. He does a good job of patting [teammates] on the back, too. He might explode but he’s going to go down there and pat them on the back and get them going.”

The Bucs lead the NFL in penalties and an ugly chunk of them are coming from the offensive line. When asked if this is a subject he has discussed with his players, Arians chuckled.

“We address it every single day since we got here,” Arians said.

Joe’s not sure this Bucs squad is good enough (yet) to overcome so many flags. At least they weren’t when they faced a physical Bears defense on the road.

    penalties have to addressed….

    on to GB…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  2. Danny C Says:

The dam penalites are killing us man. Donovan Smith had his worst game this year and that is saying much cause he’s sucked in 2 previous games. He allowed 2 sacks and had 3 penalties….good grief man put Gronk next to him to help him block.

  3. Joe Says:

saying much cause he’s sucked in 2 previous games

LOL This is why Joe is convinced his standard for blocking is 180 different than most people. Joe though Donovan Smith was OK if not good in those two games.

(No, Joe pays ZERO attention to what the PFF tribe thinks about blocking.)

  4. El Buco Realisto Says:

Sounds like the players are tuning out the coaches!!!!!!!!!! Not surprising when ole stale biscuit has been exposed and a proven liar!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And to hear ole stale biscuit excited that a player has to do his job that he has failed at, has the “real” fans disgusted!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its not surprising that there has been no improvement or development of the roster!!!!!!!! The sheep will just expect for huge roster turnover next season to “improve” the constant sloppy coaching and lack of detail that this coaching regime has displayed time and time again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Packers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, errrrrrrrr, I mean, go bucs!!!!!!

  5. Joe Says:

Sounds like the players are tuning out the coaches!

Nope. Sounds like, given how the Bucs have been penalty-prone for years, the Bucs just have players who either don’t get it or never will get it.

It’s tough to fix what’s above the shoulders.

  6. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @joe

But they were not in 2016, and 2017!!!!!!! 2018 had massive injuries, and a coaching change!!!!!!!

So if ole stale biscuit has any credibility left, and claims that he and staff “address penalties every single day since he pulled up in his golf cart” and yet they have led the league in penalties for over One year and a quarter!!!!!! Even joe cannot look pass that!!!!!!!!!!! It either is the players are tuning out the coaches, or the coaches are sloppy and are lacking in details!!!!!!!!!!!!

No EXCUSES!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLD THE COACHES ACCOUNTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    joe says
“It’s tough to fix what’s above the shoulders.”

So joe is saying its a “player evaluation” problem???????? Ole stale biscuit and licht bulb need to be shown the door if that is the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!! 31 other teams and GM’s seem to be evaluating better!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its time to get this team up to standard then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Joe Says:

But they were not in 2016, and 2017!!!!!!! 2018 had massive injuries, and a coaching change!!!!!!!

    WRONG!

    Check yo’ sheet.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

Realist… I think the secondary has been developing nicely…along with Rojo.

  10. Defense Rules Says:

Yes penalties are killing us, but there’s always a reason behind everything. Carlton Davis picks up more than his share of penalties, yet he’s a great pass defender … when he’s not getting caught for Pass Interference (5) or Grabbing a Face Mask (1). Donovan Smith is not really that bad as a LT … when he’s not False Starting (3) or Holding someone (3). The list goes on.

That’s all just DISCIPLINE, and if you’re averaging 1 penalty each game your discipline sucks. Offensive penalties kill drives, and defensive penalties keep the opposition’s drives alive. They often end in NOT scoring points on our part, or allowing our opponents to score points on theirs. Again, that sucks.

And yet, why do some teams have so few penalties and some others get tagged with almost as much penalty yardage as the attain from running the ball? (Like our Bucs?). I don’t think you have to look any further than the coaching staff to find he answer.

  11. Ivan The Insider Says:

This Team BEAT the Bears. The REFS beat the Bucs. They don’t make that BS call on Shaq and that game was OVER. Bucs would be 4-1.

  12. Joe Says:

    Bucs would be 4-1

Alas, you cannot go back in time. So the Bucs are 3-2.

And the Bucs are just now entering the teeth of a tough schedule. Maybe one gimme until December.

  13. Ndog Says:

Well in that case Ivan the Bucs beat the Titans last year cause the refs screwed that up. The Bucs beat the Giants cause Gay screwed that up. The Bucs beat the Seahawks cause Dean sucked that day. The Bucs beat the Falcons cause Gay screwed up again.

If were just going to go off of people not screwing up then the Bucs were 11-5 last year according to Ivan.

  14. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Sooner or later

People and teams get tired of BAs act

Arizona future is finally looking up and they sure dont miss the BA/BL twins whatsoever

There will be a offseason power struggle after our 8-8 season

Kobe Faker is putting his money on Gisele Bunchen”

  15. Allbuccedup Says:

Between all the penalties, players not listening looks like Godwin, McCoy, and Fournette have started a coup against ole’ stale biscuit. How any games has Godwin missed this year and if Fournette was available why wasn’t he on the field against the Bears. As far as McCoy goes, he just about washed up anyway.

  16. Mike C Says:

Refs were only on your list once N troll…..

  17. Mike C Says:

Ohhhh and we also would have been 16 and 0 if your boy didn’t IMPLODE with turnovers in half of our game, funny you always seem to forget about that troll.

  18. Mike C Says:

Allbuccedup….. you really think Godwin is not playing because he is pissed at the head coach? Wow, and I thought N troll came up some ridiculous stuff smdh.

  19. Allbuccedup Says:

Mike C he’s only played two games this year and missed most of preseason practice. I guess when you go to the Pro Bowl you expect a little reward but I guess he was wrong.

  20. Mike C Says:

What are you talking about bro???

  21. Beeej Says:

Whatever you attribute it to, 1/5 of all of our offensive yardage this year has been negated by penalties

  22. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog thts a lot of screw ups funny how you leave out the most consistent screw up from last season. And yes he was the most consistent 1 from week 1-16!!!!!

  23. Rayjay1122 Says:

    You can’t fix stupid.

  24. Will Says:

Coaches are just giving lip service to addressing the penalties. I know this isn’t college but what exactly has BA done to send a message that penalties won’t be tolerated? Last year he sent a clear message that loafing on defense won’t be tolerated by getting rid of Hargraves. However nothing has been done on the offensive side. Smith continues to loaf and rack up penalties and Jensen does dumb stuff and gets baited into penalties. I love Jensen’s fire but someone on that line has to take control. We need one alpha on that line and we don’t have it. And no I wouldn’t consider Jensen an alpha I think he tries to play the tough guy role but it isn’t him
    .
Joe you follow this team so closely how is it that the fans see Smith needs to go and you don’t? I’ve wanted him gone for a while now. When you rewatch a game or a run gets blown up rewind and concentrate on him and see how you feel about his total game. He doesn’t deserve the money he’s making he’s nothing special. Yes he hasn’t missed a game but I wish he would’ve opted out this year and Whirfs could’ve slid right into that spot.

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Im really upset how Brady made such a dumb mistake on a potential game winning drive.

Its a major letdown. He is here to convert those opportunities. If hes the goat then show me. Maybe its gone?………Not gonna hang him over one drive but being 0for1 is simply unacceptable. Hopefully he gets the ball in his hands this week in the same situation on Sunday……..Us fans are anxiously awaiting for a better team then we saw Thursday.

  26. Alanbucsfan Says:

LOL- alot of these posts remind me of the 1st half posts during the Chargers game.
Bucs will beat Packers if they don’t beat themselves. D Smith’s job is on the line.

  27. unbelievable Says:

When asked if this is a subject he has discussed with his players, Arians chuckled.

“We address it every single day since we got here,” Arians said.

So they work on this every single day, yet still can’t get it fixed after a year and a half?

    Man, what a great coach.

  28. Bucsfanman Says:

unbelievable- I know what you mean but I would ask you to answer one question yes or no:
Are the Bucs an overall better team under Arians as compared to the previous two years?

Realist(o)- YOU acting like you know something about coaching is amusing! You would have “10 yard cushion Smitty” as your DC if you had your way!
Defensively, players ARE improving and at a rate not seen in recent years.

  29. Adrnagy Says:

“ He might explode but he’s going to go down there and pat them on the back and get them going.”

This is the problem.. head coach can’t put his foot down. HC is ok for others to do his job. He can’t even throw a red flag. This players make millions. Hold them accountable. Same penalties all the time. 1,2,3 in game. Carlton Davis loves to give 1st down in penalties the same goes to d. Smith he loves to dump 10yds on a down and kills the drive

  30. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Penalties are on the coaching staff and a LT that is lazy. Another repeat performance and he has to be benched.

  31. Buczilla Says:

Brady should have yelled at his 555 billion “great” coaches as well. Arians has been a good coach in the past, but right now he’s 10-11 as the Bucs coach. With his resume, that’s just not good enough. Penalties have been an issue since last year and there is no improvement this year. That imo is bad coaching and bad on Licht for not replacing players that are unable to learn how to stop committing so many penalties.

Look, I know it’s still early and it’s been a tough year due to the sickness, but “to whom much is given, much will be required”. There is too much talent on this team to be playing this way. Get it going Arians! 😛
