Acquisition Of 2020 (So Far)

October 31st, 2020

Bucs DT Steve McLendon.

It stunk that Bucs defensive tackle Vita Vea was lost for the season with a broken ankle/leg. But did the Bucs get the perfect replacement?

Steve McClendon had a history with Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles when Bowles ran the Jets and McClendon played for him and Bucs defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers.

Rodgers was McClendon’s defensive coordinator in New Jersey. So clearly he has is a short learning curve if any in Tampa.

After the win over the Raiders, former NFL offensive lineman Brian Baldinger thought Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht may have gotten the steal of the year in trading basically nothing for 34-year-old McClendon.

Baldinger sang McLendon’s praises for getting five tackles in 25 snaps. Joe checked Pro-Football-Reference.com and sure enough, that’s what they have for McClendon as well.

You can hear Baldinger laud McLendon as he breaks down Bucs tape in the video below.

He was dominant when he was in there. Super Bowl or bust!

  2. Boston Boy Says:

Leaving no stone unturned. Licht & BA have been super responsive in addressing the football needs of the team.. That is great leadership. These guys are growing right in front of our eyes

  3. Boston Boy Says:

Cmon Buccaneer fans… can you say… Playoffs

Licht has really been doing a great job this season. We won the off season and are becoming the team to beat in the NFL. We have to handle the Giants and improve to 6-2 and then we get our revenge against the Saints to go to 7-2 and take a couple game lead in the NFC South.

  5. Casual Observer Says:

Looks like a terrific pick up. A steal may be right.

  6. Swampbuc Says:

Baldy does a good job with these.

Licht has BEEN doing a good job. Sure, he got cute for with the gay and Roberto, but the entire foundation of this team is built by JL, and that talent is what attracted Brady. The trade for JPP, the Suh Acquisition, etc etc etc etc…You can thank Jason GD Licht

It’s amazing what you can do when you stop trying to prove your a genius and just make common sense moves. This was an excellent move 👍🏻

Bucs are on track for J licht to win Executive of the year. If the Bucs make it to the Super Bowl, J licht has the award locked up. Time will tell. But tell me what GM has had a better year in signing free agents starting with the greatest free agent signing in since free agency started in the modern era. The defense came back in tack, in large part because Brady signed so that goes back to Jason. Licht has built a legitimate power house basically in one year. I know players were here before, but most do not sign again without Brady signing on the dotted line. J Licht hands down is the GM of the year. GO BUCS!!!!!!

I love Baldy and Ronde taking apart tape for us and showing what’s really happening.

I think both of them are great!

    Swaggynot

great job resigning the defense, and acquiring stevie Mac, but let’s be honest, licht did not sign brady, tom chose us, we were very lucky, now the question is would tom have chose us if not for the team that was already in place? i think no, so hat’s off to what jason built to lure the goat, and what he has done this season, he deserves executive of the year LFG BUCS!!!!!!

  13. BringBucsBack Says:

Getting out of NYJ must feel like signing a deal $40 mil. deal. He must feel 24 years old!

  14. adam from ny Says:

he played so well last game…

seasoned vet and has his head right…

    and a bowles guy…

if we need to pull from a roster before the deadline, jets are a best option…

this was an A++ move by licht, bowles and BA

Finally some digital ink for this man!

What a awesome turn around this year, every thing I see is better and looks to be just getting started.. Proud buc fan again.. Go Bucs..

I thought this was his best acquisition also…. I wrote about it after the game…. Not that he’s some super star but he fits what they’re trying to do so well it’s just such a perfect fit at such a perfect time!!! They miss Vea on 3rd down and you’ll notice the middle of the pocket is not collapsing like it was when he was in there!! But they sure got a good guy, a good player and a perfect scheme player that will do exactly what that position demands for this defense

  18. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

No question. I have made fun of LichtMyBalls for years, but I think it’s time I retire that moniker. Licht might be the best GM this year.

  19. AJ Says:

It would take G. McCoy 3 weeks to total 5 tackles. Great pick up by Licht…

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Get off the GMC attack trip! He isn’t here anymore, and he never was a wuss when he played here. I thought the anti-Licht bloviating was stupid. I was right. Him winning GMOY will be icing on the cake.

  21. Architek Says:

Very underrated move! Kudos Mr. Licht!
