“We Have Been A Laughingstock For A Long Time”

September 25th, 2020

Wants to finish off opponents.

Bucs star receiver Mike Evans has no desire whatsoever if the Bucs take the lead Sunday, to ever let up or take the proverbial foot off the gas.

Evans wants to run people over until the final whistle sounds. (By the way, why did the NFL do away with guns? That needs to be brought back. Nothing cooler than shooting off an M&P 45 to signal an end to a quarter, half or game. Betcha players and coaches wouldn’t give the zebras much flack if they knew the referee was packing).

The way Evans described it, the Bucs have no reason to lay back with a lead or milk the clock. Keep firing.

And why is that? Well, Evans said the Bucs have been a joke of a team and have no reason to pretend they are something they have not yet accomplished.

“We can’t be lackadaisical,” Evans said. “We haven’t won anything. We have been a laughingstock for a long time, since I’ve been playing on this team.

“And we can’t relax when we are up. We’ve got to finish the job. Hopefully, we will learn from that and I think we will.”

Evans was referencing last Sunday’s game against Carolina. The Bucs had a three-touchdown lead in the first half and let the barnyard gate open. And the Stinking Panthers snuck back in and crapped all over what was a good game. Carolina damn near made it a contest.

Joe likes Evans’ mentality here. Get such a huge lead that nobody can come back on you. Never give an opponent a chance.

Don’t expect an easy game on Sunday. Playing at Mile High is always hard. Despite the injuries, the Broncos have a decent D and Drisckell isn’t garbage.
The Bucs will still face some more bumps this week but, again, they’ll come up with a double-digit W.
ST = big concern. The air is thinner, I hope they manage to avoid big mistakes.
But overall, the Bucs will be fine and show some improvement overall, specially on the Offense.
Joe, any news regarding Tyler Johnson’s situation? Is he ready to go if Miller and Watson go down?
    Go Bucs!!!

  6. Sesteprenelicus Says:

Some teams have not made the playoffs because of the point differential tie-breaker. So yes you should never let off unless you’ve clinched #1 overall seed.

  7. ClodHopper Says:

Fact check: True. He needs to shout this all game long l. Every game.

would love to see some good ‘ol college style BLOWOUTS!

  10. Buccystle Says:

Thanks mike for keeping it real! Now lets go and keep the pedal to metal!! GO BUCS!!

  11. Lamarcus Says:

Mike Evans is right and what frustrates about this team. All I hear is how good players are on the team and we lose every year. I have zero hope until winning happens consistently

  12. View from 132 Says:

What proverb references feet on gas pedals?

Twist the knife! I love it!

  14. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Then you blame the coach and OC they are always the culprits, but then again the little sensitive fans who cry about running up the score like some of the ones up here crying about the trick play the Aints ran against us. These little girly men crying about sportsmenship and all that other mess really are as irritating as some of these females out here. I’m like this, your team has the same salary cap as mine so you’re paid to stop us so stop us. Leave the crying for your fans!

  15. Defense Rules Says:

It’s almost humorous when Bucs’ fans use the word ‘blowout’. We lost the 1st game & could’ve lost the 2nd game if just a couple plays had turned out differently. To date we’re almost even in terms of Points Scored vs Points Allowed, we’ve made more TOs than we’ve generated, and we’ve lost the TOP battle in both games. ‘Blowout’ is hardly the word that applies thus far.

Do the Bucs have the roster talent to kick ass & take names? Sure do. But ME13 hit the nail right on the head when he said “We can’t be lackadaisical. We haven’t won anything. And we can’t relax when we are up. We’ve got to finish the job.” Just win baby!

  16. Alanbucsfan Says:

They can start by catching the damn ball.

  17. Mort Says:

yeah we definitely don’t need any guns at football games. That’s a dumb idea on any level.

  18. ocala Says:

    WORD!

  19. Kalind Says:

Crushing spirits should be the goal every week. My goal as GM or coach would be for the opposing coach to whine in his presser about running the score up. And get a call from The Doof (Goodell) every week about running it up.

Run it up. Leave no doubt. -Remember the Titans

  20. FirstTimePoster Says:

Officials never used a M&P 45. Officials quit using guns in the early 90’s. The M&P didn’t start production until 2005.

  21. Big Stinky Says:

This team will NEVER blow another team out. Our coaches don’t think that way, period! So don’t expect it. The ONLY way is if we keep scoring while we are running out the clock on the ground. I expect Brady to throw more picks and lose more games than he ever has in his career. Love how Fournette said, ” If the coaches aren’t going to get on us, as a team we got to”. That speaks volumes!!! Arians wants to be a sound byte not a coach. Is he even doing ANYTHING?

  22. PSL Bob Says:

Halllelujah!!! Getting conservative and trying to run out the clock has always backfired on the Bucs. Pedal to the medal the whole game!

  23. Pewter Power Says:

Not up to the players I’m sure they would love to pad stats and hang 50 every week but the stupid coordinators somehow act like teams won’t adjust and always play careful as if that’s how they built a lead. Kirk cousins comeback on us still stings. If you want to win the Super Bowl I say announce it by destroying every team you can preferably playoff bound teams specifically the Saints

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

    One million percent!
That victory against the Panthers was much closer than it had to be. Part of that is “letting off the gas” and part of that is missed opportunities.
Clean up the misses and stay full throttle because NOBODY is ever going to feel sorry for us.

  25. Ndog Says:

They didn’t slow down in the second half, in the first half they were gifted TOs that set them up to score.

  26. Zwak Says:

Maybe it’s just me but Evans plays for penalties not catches. Joes how many YAC’s does he have total over the years?

  27. Cobraboy Says:

Just once I’d like this team to beat thre crap out of an opponent start to finish.

    Just once.

YOU DO REALIZE JW HAD 24 INTS WITHIN BUCS TERRITORY, 8 OF THEM WITHIN THEIR OWN 20 YARD LINE!!!

ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THOSE GIFTS???

OR ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT LAST YEARS DEFENSE WHO RANKED 5TH OVERALL IN TAKEAWAYS??? THE 5TH BEST!!!

YOU SERIOUSLY LIE IN EVERY COMMENT!!!

  29. Bob in Valrico Says:

Thats what I have been saying for a couple of years. Thanks Mike ! Too many
repetitive, largely ineffective runs in the third quarter! We won’t be a really good football team until we stop playing not to lose football. Percentages favor passes on first and second down so call them once in a while. You might even get your QB
into a streak in the third quarter for a change.

  30. Jean Lafitte Says:

IT’s up to the offense to put games away. So no more dropped balls or untimely penalties. Problem is sometimes when BA and Lefty wanna run the clock out they want to resort to non effective drive sustaining run game to get it done. Last season that didn’t work out so well with a poor run blocking Oline. But this season so far we’re learning that Leonard Fournette could actually be that closer as long as the Oline continue to get better and better at run blocking. I think having Wirfs and Gronk really will make the difference. We average 31 points a game we’ll get to 10 – 6

  31. unbelievable Says:

    Hell yea Mike.

Every single player should feel this way from start to finish.

You see that block he made to ensure Fournette was able to take it to the house at the end last week?
