“We Can’t Get Lax”

September 25th, 2020

Candid talk

The scary element of last Sunday’s glorious Bucs victory was Tampa Bay letting the lousy Panthers back into the football game — at home, and after entering halftime with a 21-0 lead.

That’s the kind of nonsense fans expected at the Den of Depression during The Lost Decade, not the Tom Brady era.

Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles said yesterday his players learned a bit of a lesson. “We gotta continue throughout the game and we can’t get lax.”

Joe asked Sean Murphy-Bunting to comment on Bucco Bruce Arians saying the defense got gassed late in the game, which was rather obvious to those watching. Murphy-Bunting made no excuses and talked about conditioning and having a tougher mentality.

Yes, it was a Florida hot day, and the Panthers had the ball for a whopping 34-plus minutes. But there really are no excuses for the Bucs being an inch from a massive blowout before letting the Panthers claw back.

All growing pains feel great when you win. On Sunday, Joe wants to see the Bucs play a 60-minute game.

Bowles went on to say his playing-with-a-lead playcalling was just fine, but defensive players have to avoid being lax in their techniques and fundamentals while playing with a lead late in a game.

It’s Sucko Brucie and Byron Suckwich’s fault.

I’m sure it drives Todd Bowles absolutely bonkers

  2. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

Sometimes the best defense is a good offense, and just like Leftwich did last year with any lead, he got way too conservative. STEP ON THE GAS!!!

  3. bojim Says:

    Keep putting points up.

  4. 813bucboi Says:

defense gave up some big plays and penalties late in the 3rd and early in the 4th….

the gas was being stepped on…but the bucs kept spinning their tires with drops….

coaches always say: when you get tired, you lose focus…when you lose focus, you make mistakes…when you make mistakes, you lose games….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  5. El Buco Realisto Says:

Just sounds like another example of these coaches not able to reach the players!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. mark2001 Says:

Sounds like a backfield full of young players learning to grow as professionals. Good thing we have Bowles, who is doing a great job at developing these young players.

  7. Ndog Says:

I love how all the Brady apologists are just talking about the drops non-stop yet strangely are ignoring the missed throws and HORRIBLY inaccurate interception.

  8. Bucamania Says:

Brady only had 3 missed throws and, yes, 1 INT. In his second game with this team.

  9. Steven007 Says:

Anthem, how can Bowles being up by 21 points and having to hold a lead possibly drive him bonkers?

  10. WhoCares Says:

Is it just me or does Brady not look amazing doing interviews. No dumb looks on his face and speaks like a highly educated team captain. I have never seen that in a Bucs QB. Not since Brad Johnson anyways. So glad we have a likeable QB for a change.

And Im glad he dont be sucking on his fingers tring to hype the team up. What a relief this QB is

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Our opponents seem to have a long history of making better halftime adjustments than we do, especially when we’re playing with a lead. That’s cost us a lot of ball games over the years I’ve been rooting for the Bucs. IMO that’s on coaching more than it is on the players. Hopefully this is the year that becomes a non-factor.

  12. 813bucboi Says:

    c’mon man….you a str8 clown….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  13. JimmyJack Says:

Lots to blame for that comeback but if Im going to single out any one player its Tom Brady. Our defense did its job to open the 2nd and gives Tom a nice short field to work with.

You go up 4 scores and the game is done. Thats when Brady took points off the board with that dumbass pick. And I dont even think it was 3rd down. Dude take a hit for the team and help up get those 3 points. Total lack of awareness on Brady there.

And the second biggest thing was them dropped balls once it got to 14-21. On third down Gronk drops the conversion then Watson drops on one the very next 3rd down…..Same drive due to pentalty…….Get the scrubs off the field and put Auclair in for all i care…..He would catch the darn thing is all i know.

  14. JimmyJack Says:

And yeah too bad if you dont like me calling Gronk a scrub. Thats all he is to me. I care care freaking less what hes done. He arent done nothing as a Buc catching anything. Thats all i care about.

  15. BillyBucFan Says:

Horribly inaccurate because it was rushed after Cappa got blown up.
Funny there were 7 drops and you mention 1 bad throw.

    Fing Loser for real.

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Billy the bad throw was at a critical time. And I freaking mentioned 2 of the dropped balls too, Jesus Christ what the heck are you talking about?

Sure Cappa got rushed…..and Brady saw it. Thats why I said take a hit. A sack dont take you out of FG range there.

    Fair criticism

  17. Cobraboy Says:

When a player gets tired and gassed, he gets sloppy.

Especially on defense where one has to react.

Conditioning could account for the “laxness.”

Same reason why Fournette broke off some big ones.

Well that doesn’t bode well for the old man Brady now does it?

He’s sloppy already with averaging 2 TOs a game how’s he going to look in game 13, 14, 15 etc….

  19. Cobraboy Says:

Ndog, your boy was sloppy when he was fresh.

That’s why he’s riding pine at a minimum salary.

Tom Brady is a breath of fresh air compared to your pathetic Turnover Machine.

None of his teammates lamented his ejection.

  20. #1bucfan Says:

NDOG really bro your comparing a 6x champ to Winston who only thru for 5 g but while throwing 30 ints and countless fumbles. Did you even listen to yourself. Brady over Winston every time.

  21. Hahahahaha Says:

I knew I would see nothing but excuses for Tom the second we signed him and mortgaged our future for the next two years. All of you making those excuses I have one question to ask…. where were the excuses for Jameis? Historically bad defenses. ABSOLUTELY NO RUNNING/KICKING GAME. And he was asked to literally will them to win every single week. When a 21 year old is asked to be superman since day one and his whole fambase has been only mildly into him since the jump…. what do you expect? But now Brady gets bailed out from going 0-2 by AN ACTUAL RUNNING BACK and all of the sudden its “tom has to learn a new offense”. Im sorry but every single qb in arians system for the first time threw a ton of picks. Only difference is one qb gets a pass for being ancient. And the other one gets villafied by the media like most young black men. The reason Tampa won’t win this year is alllllll the bad karma that all you “fans” deserve doggin that dude based off baseless accusations and clout chasing. Its gross.

  22. Hahahahaha Says:

NDOG aint wrong about $#it. But a lot of the buccaneers fanbase is part of the generation that ruined this country. Old and stubborn and… here’s the kicker….. woefully uninformed and stupid. Probably because they still need help setting up their wifi. Boomers all around. Guess what? You think we’re stupid, but who raised us? You morons. Be better parents and quit bitching. Go bucs but yall deserve to have jamies tear us up 2 a year for the next 15 years. So dumb yall can’t recognize a system qb when you see one.
