Scotty Miller Talks About The Difference Between Tom Brady And Jameis Winston

September 29th, 2020

Two-time Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Torrey Smith had a question for Scotty Miller after the Bucs bludgeoned the bungling Broncos.

Smith wanted Miller to state differences between playing with America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, and the most successful quarterback in NFL history, Tom Brady.

Miller paused for the SiriusXM NFL Radio audience, praised Jameis for being a guy who taught him a lot and then lauded Brady.

“But as far as Tom goes, it’s been amazing, and just such a blessing to be able to learn from him, get in the huddle with him, just the way he commands the offense, the confidence he has and really the expectation he sets for himself and the whole offense and the whole team,” Miller said. “So you really just want to, you wanna go out there and play hard and make plays for him, because he’s working as hard as anybody each and every day. So you want to do everything you can to help him win football games.”

Joe will skip reading between the lines today and let fans do that if they wish.

Is Brady a better fit than Jameis at the quarterback position and as the inspiration force on the roster? It sure seems that way. But there is a mountain of 2020 football still to be played.

    JW is over ….
Talking about JW is the same as talking about Testaverde, is in the past, let’s move on…..

  3. Bobby Buc Says:

agreed- it’s only been three weeks and we’re still scratching the surface. one game at a time…..

  4. 813bucboi Says:

JW’s calling card was, “how hard JW works”…..lol….

sounds like he was working hard at the wrong thing!!!!

im tired of this LOSER joe….JW is a BUST!!!!!

but i forgot you always liked JW because he,”moved the needle”….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  5. Jersey buc Says:

Difference is we’re not down 14 points from the rip with the pick master not under center. So nice not stressing a pick every pass play

  6. Joseph Metzger Says:

Clickbait. He doesn’t compare them at all… Why so salty? Miller was asked a direct question and Joe shared his answer. –Joe

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t know if it’s simply a natural year one to year two growth for Scotty Miller or if it’s Brady taking him under his wing…..but Scotty has grown up.

  8. ClodHopper Says:

I was really expecting “Tom doesn’t over throw me by ten yards every friggin time” Kudos to Scotty for keeping it classy.

  9. Penny2shaq Says:

The inspirational force on the roster? Lol. We’ve had the #1 passing offense the last 2 years, bring in Brady and now we’re in the mid 20’s.. while every other aspect of this team has taken a giant step forward. I give Tom credit for managing the game well last week, but lets not get carried away. The defense is the inspirational force, if anything.

  10. Show Me the TDs Says:

Uh, one is a 3rd string turnover machine and the other has 6 SB rings.

  11. AKicknTheBucNuts Says:

    @Penny –

I don’t care if we stay in the mid 20’s…when is the last time we started 2-1?

As long as we win, I don’t care what # the passing offense is.

How inspirational do you think it was to play hard on both sides of the ball and then see JW throw 30 interceptions? 6 pix sixes?

  12. Steven007 Says:

Sigh, “#1 passing offense” is clearly a meaningless statistic. First, it’s #1 in nothing but yards. How about efficiency or TD/INT ratio? We were plus 3 (!) Most good QB’s are +15 or +20 by the end of the year. So what exactly did our “#1 passing offense” give us the past 2 years? You know who the “#1” passer is thus far using the yards metric? Dak Prescott followed by the other Josh Allen and Matty Ice cream. Ahead of Wilson, Mahomes and Rodgers, all of whom are demonstrably better. So yes, I’ll take our “middling” offensive statistics if we’re winning. Funny, we’ve been losers for so long I took to looking at statistics to make me feel better about the team. JW’s meaningless yards, Evans very cool but ultimately meaningless (in terms of victories) 1,000 yard seasons, obviously Shaq’s sack leader status. But I’ll take a hit on every single one of those metrics if this team can sniff the playoffs. And I’ll bet all other true Bucs fans will too.

  13. SlyPirate541 Says:

    I’m with “Jersey buc”.

The difference is JW was the biggest media joke in the NFL last year. Tom is NFL royalty. Tom brings so much positive media hype that it overflows to other players. Lavonte, White, Winfield, Evans, Fournette, Miller, etc have all gotten media attention simply because Tom is in town. That’s a QB you can get behind.

For goodness sake, Scotty Miller was on NFL Radio! No one even knew who Scott Miller was three weeks ago.

  14. ElioT Says:

    @Show Me The TDs

  15. Lamarcus Says:

Brady is the boss. If you dont work Brady will bench you. There i read between the lines for you

  16. catcard202 Says:

Frankly, sounds like Miller is suffering from TB12 wonder lust.

  17. Darin Says:

    Lamarcus
True. Surprised he didnt bench donovan after week one. Still alot to be played tho.
And to all who wana see fantasy football every week theres a red zone channel out there for ya. Win the game. Nobody will say a word about yards come playoff time. You’re in or not.

  18. WhoCares Says:

The difference is Brady doesn’t try to motivate his team by sucking. Literally.

JW should of stopped sucking on his fingers, maybe thats why the ball would slip and go for INTs all the time.

Regardless, JW was the very best at what he did. There can be no doubt about that. Check yo Sheet

Gee I wonder which one he likes better? The one that can actually throw an accurate pass?? Or the one that he needed to bring a step ladder to every game for because he couldn’t throw an accurate pass that wasn’t to high to save his life… Scott Miller Joe.. Another guy you misread because he made your boyfriend look bad!! Every time Winston missed him last year the dude was wide open!! But you blamed him every time and even scolded the bucs for even having him on the team!! Dude, if it weren’t so hard to get bucs info here in Tennessee and other areas other than Florida then you would be the worst writer for this team there is!! You are wrong about almost EVERYTHING!! You go with emotion and glitz and glamour more than really knowing football!! And for someone actually writing about football you have a lot to learn!!!

  21. Bucsfan77 Says:

Joe you banned bigdog for race baiting which I agree was way over due, why give anthem a free pass. He constantly does the same thing and I like many others I am sure feels the same way that this site would be better with him and those like him.

  24. D-Rome Says:

Miller paused for the SiriusXM NFL Radio audience, praised Jameis for being a guy who taught him a lot and then lauded Brady.

The only thing Scotty Miller learned from Jay-Miss is that he would not be a quarterback that could lead any team to the playoffs much less a Super Bowl.

  25. WhoCares Says:

Regardless of your opinion. It is a fact that Brady has preferred Short White guys.

Personally the alternative is terrifying to me.

So I don’t see a coincidence here. Or am I missing something?

On the flip side, I have heard, once you go black you never go back. LOL

  26. 40TDs Says:

Jameis eats Ws from a can while TB12 delivers them in the field.

    Check the sheet!!

  27. Tye Says:

Tom Brady is the epitome of the player at that position….
The other guy is what you don’t want at that position ( if you want to win)….

The Bucs are way better off now…. And those pewter unis look amazing!

  28. stpetebucsfan Says:

Well it is sports and so there is zero nuance.

Comparing JW to Brady is unfair to one and disrespectful to the other. We need to give it a rest.

JW fans set the bar waaaay too high here. JW could still become a solid NFL QB. He’ll get another chance. But he’s yet to even play in a post season game much less win a Super Bowl. Before JW sets out after any GOATS he better catch up to Mahomes, Jackson and Russell Wilson…if anybody is going to catch up to him.

Really?? Yeah you’re probably right, I mean Mike Evens and Chis Godwin have the greatest tans I’ve ever seen on white guys. LMMFAO Why must you and NDog always make it about race? If this was Cam Newton, would you still be crying the race card? Personally I wanted Cam here. He’s a very talented quarterback who’s a physical BEAST. Not to mention that he would have been very motivated to play against his old team twice a year. That being said, I love having Tom Brady here to make our team better, to show these young players what it takes to win, to be the leader on the field that they have been yearning for. By the way I’m 100% Puerto Rican, just in case you want to play the race card with me.

Look all you Captain Crableg lovers need to realize JW IS GONE! He’s a memory (A BAD ONE) He’s exactly where he belongs, riding the bench as a THIRD STRINGER holding a microsoft pad. If your man crush on him is so great, go root for the Saints. Jameis Winston is just like Josh Freeman, a mistake who’s no longer here……THANK GOD! Move on, LET IT GO!

  32. dalvincookrules Says:

JW was certainly far from a bust. Can’t think of anyone in history who put up the kind of yards he put up especially over such a young age, leading the NFL in passing yards one year.

JW just turned the ball over too much. Inconsistency, carelessness, a tendency to panic, yes his flaws were big and well documented, but certainly there is no doubting his arm, talent, competitiveness, and leadership.

Bottom line is, Brady at this age, cannot make the kind of high-level throws that Winston made, but we will accept it as long as he can just be smart and consistent.

  33. Gary Says:

I am a Patriots fan first of all . What you guys and the wide receivers will find out is the second Tom thinks you can’t catch or you make one mistake you will not be thrown to again maybe for a few games . Young receivers he has zero patience for and will not try to help them get better and last of all his rings were because of having the greatest coach of all time , Arians isn’t qualified to call in plays in New England he is a hack . He asked JW to constantly just throw the ball 20/30 yards over and over again while running for his life because the o line couldn’t block a small dog much less an nfl player . The Bucs will probably make the playoffs because your division sucks worse then the afc east and in game one Brady will pick 6 you guys right back home then he will retire and you guys have nothing to show for letting go JW who in my opinion just needs a real coach and not a hack like Arians .

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Hardly a diss to say Winston isn’t the leader that the greatest of all-time is. I don’t think even Winston would have an issue with that.

For all you jerkoffs talking trash about Winston, if he ends up the QB in New Orleans, he’s going to terrorize the Bucs for a decade. That’s the Bucs way, that’s what the Bucs do, they find ways to come up with really bad outcomes. I hope that the Bucs can win it all, then it doesn’t matter what happens for the following decade, but 35-years of being a fan of the most losing franchise in the history of sports makes me always assume the worse.

  35. Brandon Says:

I prefer Brady over Winston for sure but I wouldn’t read anything at all into Miller’s comments. He’s praising his QBs and heaps the greatest praise on his current one. Very PC answer, nothing to see here.

  36. donuts Says:

I think the biggest thing you notice in the film is the QB execution on the timing patterns. JW had a harder time getting the ball to the receiver in stride or where they didn’t have to contort themselves to make a play on the ball. I have noted the ball position by Brady as a significant change. In the NFL, a half second can determine whether a play goes for 5 yards or 50. As Brady heats up to Arians style, I expect more big plays due to the timing and execution of the offense. We just need to stay healthy….big dropoff in talent after Godwin/Evans.

  37. JimmyJack Says:

To me there is only one difference that matters….Give your QB the ball with a chance to win and how will he perform? Last year with Winston is was pick, pick6, pick, pick6.

Whats the difference with Brady? We are yet to see but if his time with New England is any indicator it will be the difference between winning and losing.

  38. Mike C Says:

Hey Gary, go look at a boston site.

  39. D-Rome Says:

Before JW sets out after any GOATS he better catch up to Mahomes, Jackson and Russell Wilson…if anybody is going to catch up to him.

Jay-Miss needs to catch up to guys like Tannehill and Cousins first.

  40. bucsfaninOregon Says:

The biggest difference between Brady and JW is subtle. This guy knows what he’s doing and tries to lead the others to the promised land. With JW it always seemed his (and my) hair was on fire. Sure the Bucs defense looks like they are turning the corner in becoming one of the premier defenses in the league. But, that doesn’t make the offense better. They just are. Confidence is not just spouting BS like the Great Leader. Confidence is based on non-BS behavior and proven results. Kind of like TB12. Confidence is contagious. That is the difference between 2019 and 2020 Bucs.

I was one who thought this season would/should not take place for reasons I have given before. Now here we are. Joe, where is your “news” piece regarding the Titans “small” problem of three players and 5 staff testing positive? If those tests are confirmed what do you think we should do? Saddle up and play the reserve players? At this point I don’t know what to do. Can’t cancel now. I’ll wait for that thread.

  41. All lives matter Says:

I can’t wait to see a Todd Bowles defense totally undress Winston in a game just like he did during practices when JW was throwing picks left and right.

  42. Bucnjim Says:

If I had to compare Winston to anything it would be an MLB pitcher who only throws fastballs. A few teams struggle with the fastball but most good players knock the crap out of even the best fastball pitches. Brady on the other hand is the veteran pitcher that has 5 or six pitches that are always in the strike zone.

  43. Big_Buc$ Says:

Well the clear difference is last year offense was No risk it no Biscuit and this year is Brady’s offense from New England its clear as day. So thats the comparison and a commit to running the ball and special teams. I think you do last with JW you finish at worse 8-8 and he finishes with less than 30 ints.

  44. Jim Steuer Says:

One of the biggest things…..Brady isnt afraid to use a check down…..Winston ALWAYS wanted the big throw!!

  45. mark2001 Says:

Jameis QB rating in 2019 was about 84…the lowest in four years. It wasn’t going in the right direction, peaking in 2017, lower in 2018, and lower in 2019. Some will blame it on Arians. But the reality is that he wasn’t progressing. And a chance to upgrade presented itself. Case close.

  46. Big homie from Jackson Heights Says:

You guys truly missing the concept and that would be ya’ll hating on JW but JW rich and you sitting your broke asses on Social media
hating on my brother. Ouuuweeee and ohboyyyyyyy.

  47. Bucsfanman Says:

I think someone mentioned this above. The difference is one is a 20-year vet with more accolades than you can shake a stick at, including 6 SB rings. The other? Well, he’s a back-up for Drew Brees right now.

It’s unfair and disrespectful at the same time to compare the two!

  48. Ed Says:

What do you expect to man to say. Brady should be better then Winston he is 43, and play like he is 63.

  49. exBucFan Says:

At least Jameis doesn’t have to Google everything to learn cus Tampa has never been talented on the Offensive side of the ball. Jameis clearly brung scoring to TB which we’ve never seen b4. Take the blame 4 JW we suck as a Franchise and have always been a training grounds.

  50. Bucsfan951 Says:

Naturally! Brady is a leader amongst men while JW was just… I just shake my head when I think about his leadership.

Here, let’s revisit a pregame speech from JW

    1,2,3 into the 4
The Bucs q’s and C’s coming out dat door
Now we don’t know how to do these rhymes
We know about pancake blocks and throwing dimes
Now the time has come for us to compete
Now we gotta do it one way, one team, one heartbeat
Now let’s go out here and have a great day
And let’s kick some jag *ss, Tampa Bay

I wish I could paste a photo of JW eating his fingers…

  51. Bucsfan951 Says:

Just add Miller to the list of Bucs players who are happier with the current qb situation.

  52. Bucs Fan Since we had Steve young was QB... Says:

Listen the bottom line is In crunch time Winston came up short I don’t care how far he can throw the ball I want wins and playoff berths and hopefully another championship let’s be honest it’s been awhile for us making the playoffs we finally got a good group of guys….with the adding of Fournette,Brady,Gronk,And McCoy are defense is solid so I’m ok……

  53. Nathaniel D Ford Says:

It’s going to be so funny watching the Bucs lose the division and not make it to the Super Bowl with old Tom Brady. You beat Denver, Carolina, you only played one team with a winning record thus far. Pump your brakes 🤣🤣

  54. Ndog Says:

Everyone is right there are differences between the two and they are that one is the luckest player to ever play any sport in history of athletics. The other one went to the statistically speaking the worst franchise in professional sports that has had three head coaches in five years. Yes there’s a difference.

One was gift wrapped top 10 defenses and the greatest coach of all time The other was gift wrapped bottom five defenses and three idiots.

One was gift wrapped two Hall of Fame kickers. The other had a different kicker every single year of his career, sometimes multiple kickers in a year.

One play in division with the likes of Pennington, Taylor, Darnold, Lossman, etc.. The other one played against first ballot Hall of famer Brees former, Ryan and former MVP Cam Newton both in which have taken their team with the Super Bowl.

So yeah there are a few differences but I I know those are all meaningless to you because you’ve always hated one and always worshiped the other even though he’s done nothing for any of us.

He will only improve. He rewards hard work… so if you’re not working, you can expect to be left out. Period. This is the NFL. He brings out the best in everyone, leaves it all on the field, never relents, and has ice in his veins. He’s fun to watch and you’re never out of the game. Gary sounds like he’s grieving, and if we’re honest, we all are in New England. So I’m now (also) a Bucs fan!

Wake up muchambo the guy is gone because he wasnt good enough. And yeah it was due to boneheaded decisions. At the end of the day if he beat the Texans hes still our QB. Bottom line is he screwed up again and cost us another victory.

9 freaking multipick games last year. We lost most of em. Tom comes in and throws a multi pick game and we lose.

9 freaking multi pick games. Did you know when he didnt have a multi pick game last year he had a winning record? Doesnt sound like it.

The rest of the fanbase knows what solid QB play looks like. We can see it with or without a good defense……..You are the lone idiot using luck for your reasoning.

Keep hating our team baby. The rest of us are enjoying every little second of it.

  65. StatGuy Says:

Bucs were #1 passing I’m yards because of self inflicted wounds turning the ball over where they had no choice but to pass cause you were put in the whole 14-0 by bad decisions . That’s like calling a firefighter a hero saving a house he committed arson on

  66. Ndog Says:

We weren’t down 14-0 at any point last year but let not let the facts get in the way of our blood face lies.

Ndog you just keep on waiting on so much fun eventually. We will enjoy the so much fun for right now.

And as stands you have been proven wrong based on facts. Winston was demoted cause he wasnt good enough and the Bucs have upgraded.

You keep waiting. Itll be a year minimal and whenever Winston does get a chanse he will have competition.

The goal is a champoinship. The Bucs have a shot. Winson has zero percent chance to lead a team to a title. That fact dictates you are totally wrong. You are loser. Diehard Bucs fans winners.

    Also…..hahahahahaha

  75. Ndog Says:

Your correct JimmyJack the Bucs have upgraded everywhere to make up for downgrading at QB. Defense better, kicker better, oline better, running backs better, safety better.

    Quarterback downgrade.

And to be clear I am a Bucs fan and no true Bucs fan would ever turn on a true Buccaneer in Jameis and cheer for the spolied, lucky, selfish one in Brady

Simply look at the niners game. Buccaneers offense didn’t score any points until the third quarter. The defense got them their first of only two tds scored by the Bucs.

But someone tossed 2 pick 6’s that game. More tds thrown to the other team than his own team!

What else is Miller supposed to say… Miller looks like a bad football player with potential fumbling issues. Keep Jameis name out of your mouth Miller, when he comes back to the Bucs he will make sure to replace you with someone way better.

@Gary nailed it. Well written sir. Couldn’t have said it any better. Kickers, OLine, and bad coaching were the main issues that Jameis faced. Plus the mainstream media committed character assassination in that turned fans against him.

Gotta respect you NDog. I just pop in every now and then, the subliminal racism toward JW on this site is too much for me. Good on you for trying to educate a lot of these clowns. And respect to JBF for once again stirring the pot over a meaningless quote

@Penny2Shaq Racism ? Lol . Were all of the racists o this site racists toward all of the black guys on the team , or just JW ? You FSU stans need to stop putting Jameis above the Bucs . You guys know damn good and well , that if he wasn’t a nole, (god forbid a gator or a cane ) y’all would have wanted him ran out of town long before .
