Report: Buccaneers Signing QB Josh Rosen

September 6th, 2020

OC Bryon Leftwich gets his former student

Congratulations, Buccaneers.

Joe is soothed.

Joe believes one of the great mistakes at One Buc Palace, until today, was the Bucs not having a talented developmental quarterback on the roster to work with the renowned QB gurus on the staff — and Tom Brady.

But today, that was rectified, per NFL Network.

The Buccaneers are signing former 2018 Cardinals first-round pick Josh Rosen to their practice squad. Rosen was a struggling rookie for a horrible Cardinals team that drafted Kyler Murray No. 1 overall a year later. It was a smart move and ballsy move by Arizona.

Bucs offensive coordinator Bryon Leftwich was Rosen’s QB coach in Arizona before Leftwich was promoted at midseason to Cardinals offensive coordinator. Arizona-area media, via Joe’s long research, never blamed Leftwich for Rosen’s struggles.

Rosen was traded to Miami and didn’t catch on there (a bad look for him). He cleared waivers this week.

Now he’ll be joining the Bucs, who likely are paying him a maximum allowable salary for a practice squad guy.

The No. 1 upside for the Bucs is Rosen knows the offense, and has a working relationship with Leftwich, who obviously thinks Rosen is a decent guy with potential. The No. 2 upside is the chance that Rosen can really develop with a lot of hands-on work with Tom Moore and by watching Tom Brady work.

In April, if you asked Joe whether the Bucs should draft a quarterback in Round 6 or trade for Rosen, Joe would have said go for Rosen. And now he’s here at no significant investment.

Well played, Bucs.

  1. Roy T. Buford Says:

Don’t like it one bit. UNLESS…they can keep Griffin on the practice squad. Griff’s been here for years, and while he hasn’t played (they should have let him play the last four games of 2018), he knows the offense very well. QB position isn’t something to be messing with this late. Like I said…UNLESS….

  2. Gettinthebucs Says:

I’m just shocked we’re doing things that good franchises do. Rosen probably could signed with a lot of different teams but he picked Tampa. As much as I like winston there is no denying the effect Brady is having on our beloved Bucs. Hopefully they can turn Rosen into beast!

  3. All lives matter Says:

I’m surprised they don’t waive Griffin and elevate Rosen so he can practice and be on the sideline with Brady on gamedays.

  4. Jerry Says:

    Low risk signing, good move.

  5. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Buford, what the hell. They’re keeping Griffin AND Rosen. Rosen knows this offense generally, and is now our quarterback of the future if he has any hope at all. As for Joe, why was being released by the a Dolphins a bad look? They weren’t letting go of Fitz and Tua is their future. What is the point of Rosen at that point.

  6. Roy T. Buford Says:

“Bucs offensive coordinator Bryon Leftwich was Rosen’s QB coach in Arizona before Leftwich was promoted at midseason to Cardinals offensive coordinator. Arizona-area media, via Joe’s long research, never blamed Leftwich for Rosen’s struggles.”

Which is why it makes no sense to me. He already did nothing under BL. Maybe BL said his play wasn’t really his fault. Cuz then again, the NFL’s leader in turnovers by FAR got a load of points and yards with our receivers. Maybe Rosen can too. Maybe working behind Brady at practice for a year will rub off, and just maybe they don’t have to draft one next year, or later?

  7. El Buco Realisto Says:

And for historical accuracy, that “Horrible Cardinals Team” is the one that ole stale biscuit left in shambles!!!!!!!!! They are still trying to climb out of the hole that ole stale biscuit left them in!!!!!!!!!!! Seems the sheep have failed to study history and are doomed to repeat it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quick quiz sheep, which playoff victory of ole stale biscuit are you most impressed with?????? Answer: “Its a trick question!!!!! As there has been only ONE playoff victory in ole stale biscuit lackluster career”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. catcard202 Says:

This is a win-win for both the Bucs & Rosen. Love the signing.
Would not be too upset or surprised to see him moved to the 53 by week 6-7.

Usually, I’ve been fairly down on certain Bucs moves the last few years…But Licht, BA & the Glazers have done a very good job of stringing multiple quality moves together, this off-season.

(Still not sold on TB12 being the savior & fearful that 1 missed block will spell doom…But in the BIG PICTURE…His signing has been a catalyst for making the Bucs a Sexy Franchise destination in short order…No Bucs Fan can be angry or upset about that!)

  9. Frankinthe813 Says:

My question…is he getting jersey number 3 😳

  10. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT?????????

  11. Jared Says:

@Roy, it doesn’t matter how long Griff has been here. To say he knows the offense very well is pointless because he has only been in this system one whole year. He’s not the number 2, he’s getting old, and he has the same amount of time spent in the system as Rosen since Rosen played a full year under Leftwich. At least Rosen has the potential to turn into something and possibly have a future as the next in line (if he develops), or at the very least, he can become a solid number 2.

Both his stops at AZ and Miami didn’t have squat for an offense. He’s in a much better situation now and won’t be thrown into the fire. He can sit back and learn. This is a very low-risk/high-reward situation. Especially since he was a former number 1 pick so he has all the tools, he just has to put thing together. I’m onboard like Joe here. We needed a developmental quarterback and now we got it.

And finally, if Brady does go another year, and Rosen develops, that saves us from having to draft a QB (that won’t be top 5 if we really make some noise this year). We can start looking back at beefing up our defense.

Pumped to say the least, go Bucs!

  12. Casual Observer Says:

Nobody really wanted to keep him. So why is that?

  13. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Why in the world would he wanna sign hee

When Byron Suckwhich pretty ruined him coming outta college?????

    I just don’t get it

Maybe the think Arians and Brady can salvage his career??????

  14. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

The talent keeps growing… really good news and fit !

  15. Roy T. Buford Says:

    Actually, @Frank, Succop’s got #3 already.

    Jared, good points. We’ll see.

  16. Gofortheface30 Says:

El Buco, I gotta give it to you – you are the most non sensical Doofus I’ve ever seen in my life. 🤤 🧩

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

No problem with this…..surprised the guy cleared waivers…..

  18. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Josh Rosen must be getting a bad sense of “Ground Hogs day” ………

wait……I don’t think he wasn’t even born yet when that movie came out…LOL!!!!!!

  19. C-Rock Says:

It really says a lot about Josh for taking a step down to learn from the QB whisperer (Bruce Arians ) and Tom Brady.

Josh had offers from other teams to be on the roster, but he took the minimal amount of $$$ just to sit and learn.

This could be one of the hidden gems of the NFL to put the Bucs into a dynasty like the Patriots.

  20. OneBuc55 Says:

    This story is crazy….

I literally thought this could happen when he was released by MIA..
I wasn’t a huge fan of him coming in; didn’t think he was worthy of a 1st round pick…Now at this point I actually feel a bit sorry for him; I think he’s a nice developmental QB to sit behind Brady a year or 2… It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out…

  21. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Hey Realist…if you lived up to your name, you’d know Steve Keim made the decisions, not BA.

  22. gotbbucs Says:

Lots of bitching for signing a practice squad player. There is literally zero risk and only potential reward.
Easily one of the most stacked rosters this team has ever had and some of you clowns still want to bitch at every opportunity. I know as Bucs fans we are trained to never believe the hype, but i think this year its okay to let the guard down a little.
    Enjoy this year.

  23. Tye Says:

It all sounds good but has ANYONE ever gone from a practice squad QB to a HOF QB?

I get that the Bucs have great qb coaches and Brady to learn from…

  24. DaBux Says:

I have no problem with this. He came out of college too early. Was expected to be a miracle man. At the worst he becomes a capable career backup. Remember, TB12 wasn’t supposed to be anything either, so development with BA and Lefty is the key.

  25. Pok Says:

Begin a player development mill. Maybe Rosen works out maybe not but what a potential steal. The Brady effect is real. 12-4 and they beat the saints opening weekend.

  26. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Gofortheface30 Says, “El Buco, I gotta give it to you – you are the most non sensical Doofus I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Just ignore head case El Realistic. He has had a man crush on Jameis and is just bitter BA jettisoned him. He now a Saints fan – no sure why he is still posting here.

  27. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Let no forget both Arizona and Miami had the two worst Offensive line when Rosen was there. Also there was virtually no talent to throw to. Guy never got a real opportunity.

  28. Joe in Michigan Says:

Why in the world would he wanna sign hee

When Byron Suckwhich pretty ruined him coming outta college?????
    ——————————-
Yes, Leftwich did such a terrible job of coaching Rosen in his rookie year that Rosen couldn’t overcome the horrible coaching from Leftwich the next year in Miami, even though Leftwich didn’t coach him last year…Seems logical enough. 🙄

  29. SB Says:

So we sigh a first round pick from three years ago that has already been through TWO FLIPPIN teams?????

    NOT liking it.

  30. A Jersey Bucs Fan Says:

This is what I was hoping the moment he was free to sign. No risk at all and a young player why the disappointment?

  31. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Bucs are signing center A Q Shipley to the active roster.

  32. Destinjohnny Says:

Will be the starter in 3 years

  33. Ndog Says:

The signing is 100%, cuz of Tom Brady because Rose is not dumb enough to think that good old coach backstabber/pos is going to do anything to help his career whatsoever. Now we just have to hope that Brady for the first time in his career actually shows that he cares about anyone but himself because we know he didn’t do that in New England, see Jimmy G., J. Brissett, M Cassel etc…

  34. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I am glad Joe is finally happy with what the Bucs’ brain trust is doing. “Oh ye , of little faith.” This applies to many fans also.

Bringing in Fournette and Rosen are all part of an ongoing process that had to have started at least when BA came out of retirement if not earlier. Who knows what other surprises are in store for us in the weeks and months ahead?

Yes, they are targeting the Lombardi stronger than ever this year. Yes, they must continue considering what happens next year and the year after. They have to sustain excellence to keep a larger fan base.

As just one of the many, many long suffering Buc fans I applaud what they are doing. Forget the past. Embrace the current regime and the new era.

    GO BUCS, WIN NOW!

  35. Kobe Faker Says:

“JW3 went to Harvard and Rosen is going to Polk county community college under Leftwich”

    Kobe Faker

  36. Allbuccedup Says:

Good or bad Rosen had more reps in the last two years as Gabbert and Griffin total plus a lot younger great move Bucs.

  37. Srq Lou Says:

I like this signing, no risk, and he can learn with a coaching staff that understands he is here to develop. There is a reason he was a first round pic in the first place, but went to a team in shambles. Look what happens to most rookies thrown into the fire with horrible teams. Carr in texas is a perfect example. Here he can learn with out pressure and develop

  38. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Joe in Michigan Says, “Leftwich did such a terrible job of coaching Rosen in his rookie year that Rosen couldn’t overcome the horrible coaching from Leftwich the next year in Miami, even though Leftwich didn’t coach him last year…Seems logical enough.”

Not trying to support Leftwich but according to Leftwich, Rosen was a young 23 year old QB coming into the toughest position in the NFL with a crappy Oline with no talent to throw to. He was essentially thrown to the wolves then traded to Miami, a team with a similar crappy Oline and no talent to throw to. He was given no chance to succeed. For those who find this hard to believe, read for yourself how terrible the Oline was at both Arizona and Miami. Brady would have a hard time.

  39. WillieG Says:

Rosen gets to learn behind a HoF QB just like Winston does. The only difference is, his teams were smart enough to dump him after one year instead of after five.

  40. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Well there ya go Marinebuc.😁

I’m still not a fan of this move at the moment.

  41. Elita Vita Says:

Will the Bucs keep Griffin? Will the Bucs keep Blaine? Rosen is only 23 years old. Considerably younger then the other two. Will they keep Rosen on the practice squad? They will need to protect him there since other teams will be able to snatch him for their 53 man roster.

  42. Ndog Says:

It’s like a prerequisite in our QB room now to be a rich spoiled kid from CA.

  43. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Let’s not forget BA wanted to draft a middle to late round QB to bring along slowly. None was available so they picked up an undrafted QB in Reid Sinnett. Rosen was a freebie and signed for peanuts. He has an incredible arm and throws a tight spiral. Can’t be any worse than Jameis. (sorry to crush your feelings El Realisto).

  44. JimmyJack Says:

It’s kinda shocking so many Bucs fans are upset about this. I dont get it at all. He’s not even on the team. He’s not taking anybody’s spot. The worst he can do is not work out and get cut…..The best he can do is earn the backup role next year and developed into a starting QB……Given his draft stock I’d say he still has a pretty high ceiling if our coaching can get him to reach his potential……..If it dont work out we literally lose nothing. What’s the problem?

  45. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Tye…Rosen had a chance to sign to active rosters, but he saw the perfect opportunity here.

  46. Perimeter Blocker Says:

Worst case scenario…. he sucks and we cut him. Best case he becomes starting material in 2 years. Nothing lost… logical move…

  47. Joe in Michigan Says:

I understand Rosen wasn’t on good teams his first 2 years in the league. My point was that to blame Byron Leftwich for “ruining” Rosen’s career is a stretch, especially since Mike McCoy was Arizona’s OC for the first 7 games in 2018.

  48. Youngbucs Says:

    Ndog you need a life

  49. Pa Privateer Says:

I love the signing. Rosen on the Practice Squad is a win-win situation for the team and for Rosen

    I await Clay Matthews signing

  50. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Some wanted Gay to be signed to the practice squad. El Realisto may also had a crush on Gay – not sure as he still longs for Jameis. That hope is gone. Bucs just signed former Titans kicker Greg Joseph to the practice squad.

  51. Joe in Michigan Says:

Ndog: Is someone a “backstabber/POS” because your favorite player is no longer here? Are we better off this year than we were last year? Please, do us all a favor and follow the Saints, until their “backstabber/POS” coach gets rid of your favorite player, too.

  52. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Joe in Michigan Says, “I understand Rosen wasn’t on good teams his first 2 years in the league. My point was that to blame Byron Leftwich for “ruining” Rosen’s career is a stretch, especially since Mike McCoy was Arizona’s OC for the first 7 games in 2018.”

Trust me, out of all the Bucs coaches, Leftwich is at the bottom for me. Thank God he is letting Brady run the show. Jameis played even worse under him. Poor El Realisto had to watch his true crush get kicked to the curb.

  53. 541BucsFan Says:

Our current backups will never be anything more than backups. With Rosen you have the potential to become a starter. Good move.

  54. El Buco Realisto Says:

Smart of Rosen to sign a one year deal!!!!!!!! That way he can follow the coaches to another team after they are all fired for the colossal failure of the buc’s this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Intern Zach ask: “Mr. Realist, what would be the biggest waste for the sheep”?????

The Buc Realist says: ” A watch!!!! Becuase the sheep still would not know what time it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  55. JimmyJack Says:

It is fair the point some of the finger at Leftwich for Rosen busting in Arizona…….But it’s totally unfair to blame him totally for it.

It’s really a complicated situation. When you look at the circumstance it sure doesnt look like Byron did a large amount of damage. Arizona did promote Byron after all. The organization sure didnt act like they blamed Leftwich.

And it sure doesnt look like Rosen himself blamed Byron. Why in the world would he sign back to play under Leftwich again if it was a disaster already? That doesnt add up.

Actions speak louder then words. Every action here saying that Bryon was not to blame for Rosen busting in Arizona. Quite the opposite.

  56. Joe in Michigan Says:

Ndog: Is Bruce Arians a “backstabber/POS” because he got rid of your favorite player without consulting with you first? Do you feel lied to and betrayed? Well, you said that you were never coming back to post on this website. I feel lied to and betrayed, and you’ll be known as “BS/POS” in my further posts.

  57. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

The 26 year old kicker, Greg Joseph was 18/21 between playing with the brown and Titans. He converted all his PAT. Pretty good stats for me.

  58. El Buco Realisto Says:

The best “kick” of the buc’s season will be the day after the season ends, when they “KICK” ole stale biscuit to the curb!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  59. Issac haggins Says:

I actually think Licht is losing some of his , I think we are good enough or I think we have enough depth , I will show the NFL ,,Meathead Jock Disease ……….. Now talk to your scouts and pick up a Vet corner ( there are several good ones) better than Smith or the rookie ,Same for special teams gunner , depth D End / Linebacker and there is for sure better O Line depth on the street for cheap ,,,,,,, hands down better than the current roster #7 o lineman . It’s just hilarious how much different it is to watch a GM get his head out of his ass and try and win vs protect his job and there is still easy easy work to do and improve . Will Jason make a few no brainer easy moves to strengthen the roster , utilizing his once in a lifetime extra (Brady )Poker Chip !!! Depth , Quality depth can be added at corner , o line and , d end/ rusher for about 5 mil total . Let’s be clear, most NFL GM s couldn’t run a lemonade stand , want proof , look what Lynch did in two years with no experience competing against the Meathead GM s of the so called League !! NO Licht your not done , improve your depth , It’s your JOB !!! Go Bucs !!!

  60. JimmyJack Says:

Joe in Michigan. Ndog is allowed to call Bruce a backstabber because it is reported fact in his world. It was reported by one guy and one guy only. The guy who is nobody outside of twitter and doesnt have a name. He calls himself Winston 1on1….Not even a real person.

And when Winston was on our team I followed the things Winston 1on1 was saying……I will admitt the guy was slightly entertaining with his radical opinions……But most important is he was proved wrong on each and every thing he even spoke about.

But he did report Bruce backstabbed Winston….That constitutes fact in Ndogs little bubble of reality.

  61. Roy T. Buford Says:

Many had projected Josh Rosen to get picked up by JAX since they cut Mike Glennon and Josh Dobbs yesterday. So I wonder if they are paying Rosen regular roster money, not PS money.

  62. Roy T. Buford Says:

Actually, JimmyJack, that’s “Winston1of1” and agreed…he was wrong on everything. I didn’t find him entertaining though.

  63. NDog is an idiot Says:

NDog acts like a jilted Lover!!! Oh I forgot, he is!!

  64. Ndog Says:

“Our defensive backs are fine on preseason last year” = lie
“I like our running backs, I don’t care what anyone else thinks” = lie
“Turnovers cost us last year, if it wasn’t for those we would have won 10-11 games” = Completely ignoring the team leading the league in penalities, completely ignoring the HORRIBLE running game which they have completely replaced, completely ignoring the HORRIBLE kicker which they have now replaced.

The guy is a liar and backstabber regardless if you want to admit it or not. All it takes is some ears and eyes and freaking memory to know that, but you guys want to just believe everything you are told.

  65. IE Buc Says:

I have always rated Griffin higher than Gabbert. I see no need to have kept Gabbert around. Griffin is a more than adequate QB2. With this signing, I would have cut Gabbert and made Griffin QB2 and Rosen QB3.

  66. Bird Says:

Ill be honest. Not a big blaine gabbert fan.
Not sure what arians sees in him.

If brady went down to some extent , gabbert aint circling the wagons.
I like Rosen pick. He needs to get up on playbook pretty quickly. He is a smart man just hasnt translated at pro-level yet.

Its amazing to see all the players want to play with Brady. Pretty cool stuff.

    ——

  67. EA Says:

#1 downside is that he is an arrogant rich kid with a bad work ethic, I guess we shall see how far this move will go , it’s only practice squad so I’m not really sweating it.

  68. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

IE Buc Says, “I have always rated Griffin higher than Gabbert. I see no need to have kept Gabbert around.”

According to BA, Gabbert graded better thank Griffin during this year’s offseason/preseason.

Rosen is a no risk, young QB with a high ceiling. If Brady can groom him or show him the ropes, then we might hit the jackpot without sacrificing any future draft picks.

  69. Joe in Michigan Says:

BS/POS aka Ndog: I’m sure if we went back and looked at all of your posts, you’ve lied to us more than Bruce Arians has. Agreed? Or are you going to lie about that too? If you kept your word, you wouldn’t be posting on here. Right?

  70. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Anytime you can grab a firs round QB for near to nothing……gotta do it. If it doesn’t work out, nothing lost.

I am puzzled by the Ryan Griffin saga……holding onto him for years without playing him…..I don’t think we need both Gabbert & Griffin now that we have Rosen.

  71. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Ndog

    He’s a “backstabber”. You’re a moron.
    C’est La Vie….

    #clipboard

  72. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Dare Ogunbowale is signing with the Raiders.

  73. Jim Says:

Doubtful that Rosen will be the guy, but let’s see what happens…

  74. Mitch Says:

I think this works out only because he was already paid his guaranteed money this year. If we he wasn’t he would have signed somewhere else easy. Also Rosen was signed to the practice squad. That means he is free to sign to any clubs 53 man roster during the season except if Tampa puts a “protection” designation on him. We will see if he sticks around to learn or is just waiting to sign somewhere else.

  75. CPN Says:

Rosen the next franchise QB for the Bucs?

  76. Jerk04 Says:

NDog you really are the best. The spoiled California qb line shows exactly who you are. Thanks for putting that one out there so nobody will ever take you seriously.

You do know just cause you say “fact” doesn’t actually make it a fact right. I wonder what happened to you growing up to turn you into this person. It’s freaking hilarious.

Do you find it ironic that you call Arians a POS and backstabber considering all the things he has done for people of color, his community and the game of footballs yet you idolize one of the worst human beings to ever play football and put on a Bucs uniform. You know the guy that was accused of rape was found to grab a woman Uber driver then LIED about it to the organization and all the people that supported him, stole and screamed grab her by the P. Yeah that’s the guy you support. Says a lot about you as a human being.

  77. gp Says:

If Griffin goes to the PS the saints will pick him up. They drafted him years ago to groom behind Brees but made the mistake of trying to hide him on their PS. That’s why we’ve been keeping three QB’s on the 53 ever since, to keep him away from Payton.
When (if) all this happens, JW may well be riding the couch as opposed to holding a clipboard.

  78. Stanglassman Says:

You all should stop worrying about Rosen’s pay. He’s from a family that has Glazer type money. That is not what’s motivating him.

Anybody know who they released from the PS in order sign the K Greg Joseph?

  79. Brandon Says:

I tbink this is an absolutely unbelievably good thing. If Rosen was poison or trash, Leftwich wouldn’t give his approval. Now a very talented and young QB will learn from the best of all time. BTW, every throw from game that Rosen played in last year on YouTube. He has tons of talent. And yes, not all was good. Usually that is the case for a QB with his 5th offensive coordinator in four seasons. This is the equal of a free draft pick.

  80. Buc You Says:

Thought of the day. What if Ndog is really Jameis? Would that change the way we read his posts?

  81. Bojim Says:

When I see realists or dog boys name at the top of a comment I just pass it by.

  82. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Stanglassman Says, “Anybody know who they released from the PS in order sign the K Greg Joseph?”

They placed Tyler Johnson and OL Molchon on IR. It freed up a spot for C Shipley and Fournette. Rosen took the last spot for the practice squad – not sure how they are fitting a spot for Greg Joseph.

  83. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Looks like John Hurst is going on IR too. Perhaps someone will be promoted to the active roster so K Joseph can move to the practice squad.

  84. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Leonard Fournette just signed. He will be wearing number 28.

  85. Will Says:

Dog the lie that you say BA told about the DBs being fixed want a lie. They were picking Jameis off left and right in practice so of course he thought they were fixed. He didn’t realize that Jameis was just being Jameis and throwing picks. And this is coming from someone that is a fan of Jameis and hopes he turns it around just not in our division. I really like this signing and had actually hoped that what it seems they’re trying to do with Rosen could’ve been done with Jameis.

  86. Stanglassman Says:

There are some really differences on the unofficial Bucs practice squad lists I’ve seen out there. I’ve seen some with mostly all Bucs camp guys and some with only about half. BN list has ATL Wr Treadwell and snd Saints OL Omameh. I also have read that A.Q. Shipley was signing to the PS and 53 roster. I haven’t seen a list with the new backup Kicker Joseph. OL Ka’John Armstrong (Falcons)
LB Jordan Kunaszyk (Panthers) also reported.

    This seems confirmed:

Profile photo, opens profile page on Twitter in a new tab
    Greg Auman
    @gregauman
So biggest names among Bucs cuts not brought back on practice squad: RB Dare Ogunbowale, ILB Noah Dawkins, OLB Kahzin Daniels, OLB Michael Divinity, PK Matt Gay …

  87. Roy T. Buford Says:

    At @Bama….thanks…good info.

I read on profootball talk they also signed another K to the practice squad. Titans kicker from last year that (I think) replaced Succop when he went down. So there will likely be some more moves this week.

  88. Roy T. Buford Says:

@Stan….my bet is they are waiting for all the notifications to those getting cut before putting out a whole new list. We’ll probably see several this week.

  89. Owlykat Says:

I am glad we signed Rosen to the Practice Squad. We will do so well with Brady that after he is gone we will be picking so far down there won’t be any promising QBs left. Meanwhile our great BA Coaches will have groomed Rosen to start and he will have learned a lot watching Brady in the meantime. Another great Licht move!

  90. Mike Says:

Let’s be honest. Bucs signed Rosen so everyone will have a chance to argue about a BUCS QB on The blog.

With Winston gone what else can you argue about ?

  91. Buczilla Says:

Karma works in mysterious ways, so maybe it’s our turn to take another team’s failed quarterback and make him into a respectable player. Leftwich obviously had to vouch for this kid, so I trust him. Hell, if he can take an average quarterback prone to bouts of woeful decision making and help him lead the league in passing yards, he can certainly help this kid be a decent 3rd stringer.

Going off memory, this Rosen kid was considered the best qb prospect at one time for the 2018 draft. I remember that he had the arm, brains, etc., but was a statue in the pocket. He supposedly had character issues as well and came off as a “know if all”. I’m guessing that he has been humbled but time at this point though and may end up being a hidden gem.

There must be a problem other than kicking affecting Matt Gay….

  93. BUC CHEEKS Says:

RealistO… Go F%#K yourself you POS! Lol, ur pathetic

  94. Oneilbucs Says:

This is why I wanted us to have used the Patriots offense because he can learn that offense and can develop into a good quarterback . I’m not mad at the pick . But less be honest he went to the Cardinals for 1 years and they fired the head coach and brought in another coach who brought in his own quarterback that’s not his fault . Then he went to Miami and they were rebuilding . So I think by mid season or towards the end of the season let him take first team reps during practice and maybe that will help him develop . We have to figure out a way to develop a quarterback . We can’t keep blaming the every new quarterback we get or draft for not developing into a good quarterback at some point we have to look at the organization !!!

  95. Joe in Michigan Says:

TBBF: The Joes mentioned a “distraction” going on with Matt Gay. I wish him the best. I’d imagine we’ll see him again, somewhere in the NFL.

  96. buccystyle Says:

  100. SC Bucs Fan Says:

NDog I feel sorry for anyone who has to spend any time near you. Only you can look at this roster and be a Bucs fan and be negative. I truly feel sorry for you, what a miserable life you must lead.

  101. mark2001 Says:

So who will end up having the best NFL career? Rosen or Winston?

Both have talent. One could be out of football if they have another off field incident. Neither might end up being a starting QB again. Will be interesting to watch.

  102. Cobraboy Says:

I never understood the love for Griffin.

Yes, he played well in PS against “beer truck drivers and UPS guys.”

But from my perch, he lacks real arm strength to be a top NFL QB.

He is an emergency back-up who won’t maker serious mistatkkes. That’s it. His upside is minimal.

I like the Rosen signing, a great bargain-basement coup.

  103. SC Bucs Fan Says:

If anyone can point out a reason it’s bad for the Bucs to sign Rosen I’m all ears

  104. D1 Says:

    Cobra,

Have you seen the video of the saints qb challenge?

    If no, it’s on YouTube.

I’m guessing you’re going to be amazed by someone’s accuracy. …and lack thereof. ..

  105. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

I think Bucs want to see if Rosen is sound before deciding to drop Griffin and bringing him on the active roster. This also gives Rosen time to learn the playbook and sit back and study film.

This was a chance pickup by the Bucs who did not expect Rosen to hit the market for a bargain. It was an unexpected and the Bucs could not afford to pass it up.

  106. Roy T. Buford Says:

NDog I feel sorry for anyone who has to spend any time near you. Only you can look at this roster and be a Bucs fan and be negative. I truly feel sorry for you, what a miserable life you must lead.

Our roster can be good and our coach be a liar, and that is 100% the case with us right now. This has nothing to do with my life or overall happiness, but I can tell you even if we go 19-0 and win the Super Bowl it won’t be nearly as enjoyable as if we won with our own players. We have an emotional connection to certain players whereas we have zero emotional attachment to Brady, Gronk, Fournette, McCoy and they will all play prominent roles on this team, that simply makes anything we accomplish less special. There is no way around that. Just like if you earn something vs having something given to you, the thing you earn is much more special.

  108. Allbuccedup Says:

Food for thought at UCLA, Arizona, and Miami hes had a different quarterback coach and offensive coordinator in each of his three years of college and two years in the NFL. Just saying!

  109. Oneilbucs Says:

I love this signing we may have a plan for the future if we give him a chance to develop . For the next draft we can go Defensive line and offensive line for the first 2 picks . We can build inside out like we did years ago . But we have to give him a running game we can’t bring in young quarterbacks and expect them to develope without a running game . Every quarterback need a running game regardless who the quarterback is . Last year the Chiefs won the superbowl because of their runningback he was the one who close out the game . Some people even said he should have been the M.V.P of the game . Go Bucs…

  110. Cobraboy Says:

@D1: Winston is the All World of Inconsistent.

    No surprises here…

  111. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs just stfu you have nothing to say. At least ndog doesn’t pull stuff out his rear end like you. Dam dude you sound so stupid pats offense your argument points are so stupid!!!!

  112. Joe in Michigan Says:

Ndog: “Our own players”? The players that the Bucs have NOW are OUR OWN PLAYERS. They’re Bucs now. Jameis isn’t. I suppose if you were GM you would’ve signed Demar Dotson to a 5 year extension, because, you know, he’s one of “our own players”. Is it really that hard to understand?

  113. Youngbucs Says:

And the Chiefs won the Super Bowl because the have Mahomes 🤡. That running back you talking about ain’t do squat all year. No of the running back did they had no run gm!!!! That’s what y’all do make stuff up to fit your narrative. Then call it fact go look at the chiefs rushing attack then respond to me if not stfu!!!!!!

  114. Oneilbucs Says:

NDOG I feel you bro because that’s how I was feeling as well but I look at this way bro . It’s football season and they are on the team so I’m just going to enjoy the season and see what happens . I don’t like these quick fixes either because I remember the last time we won and we end up losing for the next 12 years so I feel you bro . But with Rosen maybe we can get back to rebuilding our defensive line and offensive line in the 2021 draft . Because it comes down to the trenches rather you win or lose games . Go Bucs ….

  115. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

I’m looking for a coach who DOESN’T lie in any press conference.

“Coach, what are you chances in the game this week?”

Coach: “Oh we’re horrible! Are you kidding me? I’m not sure we have anything that can match up against those guys. We’re going to get destroyed”

“Coach, what can you say about your RB situation?

“That’s a great question, Joe. Worst in the league, Not sure why we are paying these guys. We’re calling other teams and we will literally trade ANYTHING for a real running back.

I’d like to now show you media members our draft board and tell you how much we will give up to move up….”

  116. DBS Says:

Yes Ndog is pissed off and won’t be happy if we win the SB because Brady is the QB. As we see above no attachment. So it is about Winston. But it was great when Brad Johnson was our QB? When did we draft him?

  117. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs is the most clueless person there is but says we don’t know football. By his logic every QB would succeed with a run gm and defense 😂. If this was the case teams wouldn’t be constantly looking for a Qb. Just build your team a plug and play 😂.

  118. Oneilbucs Says:

youngbucs You are the dummiest guy I know on this site you are so blind cookie . Ok a running game don’t mean nothing but we just brought in 4 runningbacks lol 😆😂🤣 . Maybe you mad because Rosen is Jewish 😆🤣😂…

  119. Marine Buc Says:

I hate to say this but….

    I TOLD YOU!!!!!!!!

    Lol

  120. Ndog Says:

No I will be happy, but like I said it will not be nearly as emotional or nearly as lasting or memorable as the 2002 team. Listen I’m not trying to argue with you guys but if you mean to tell me if we won the Super Bowl this year it’d be as memorable as watching Brooks, Lynch, Sapp, Barber and Alstott win the Super Bowl will then I don’t know what to tell you.

We had a chance to do that with our very own players with Jameis, Evans, Godwin Bratet, Jones, David, White we had a chance with this team do something special and it was with our players. Now if we win everyone knows what they talk about and it will all Brady Brady Brady Brady Brady. That’s all they’ll talk about and you know he will never be ours he will always be New England and no matter what anyone says you guys all know that, and that doesn’t make it right or wrong it’s just true.

  121. Clean House Says:

We have three scrub back-ups that combined don’t measure up to
JW3, who should be on our roster as QB2. Brady rightfully gets the nod because he’s Tom freakin Brady!

However, Jameis led the NFL in Total Offense, Passing yards, Passing yards per game, and was 2nd in TDs behind only MVP Lamar Jackson. Oh and he’s good enough for our division rival who is a perennial winner, not like this side show.

    Check yo sheet!!

  122. Youngbucs Says:

See ndog says he’s so smart but his post is stupid to the core!!!!! That super bowl team had big contributors from players we did not draft and boy the list is long!!!! Should we all name them for ndog and oneilbucs ????!!! Let’s do guys show them how stupid they sound!!!

  123. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

I like this move. He has an arm but has to learn a lot. Who better to learn from every day than TB12. If it doesn’t work then we lose nothing. But, if it works, then we have our future starting QB.

  124. Youngbucs Says:

To bad there’s no more circus cuz these 🤡s need a job.

  125. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs that shows how stupid you are if a running game doesn’t mean nothing then why did we bring in 4 runningbacks stupid lol 😂😆. Go ask the Patriots last year when Sony Mitchell went down or go ask them who carried them in the last superbowl run . Brady had 0 td in 1 interception . Cookie I’m done talking to you I will be in Tampa this year then we can talk about it face to face .

Now we can grasp the fact that you are more racist than you are a JW nuthugger.
Instead of biotching about the Bucs organization bringing in a First round Bust at QB you go straight to the Race Card!
Not only do you realize how stupid you are??? More blacks in the NFL or whites?’
AND you don’t realize that is posters like you that perpetuate what is wrong with the world today.
NoBody could square their mouths enough to say Josh Rosen is better than JW at ANYthing. The way you just KEEP carrying a cross for JW”2″ is absurd.
    IT’S OVER FOR BUCS’ FANS.

I actually feel for you man. I really do.

  127. Cobraboy Says:

    Ndog, Oh, puh-leeeeze.

“Emotional attachment” comes from attitude and winning.

    Your messiah had neither.

If the Bucs start winning bigly, Tampa babies will be named Leonard, Tom, Rob, Bruce and Ndamukong…and no Jameis.

    Winning is all that matters.

    Emotionbal attachment? :spit:

  128. Jmarkbuc Says:

Shoulda been “Another First round Bust”

  130. Oneilbucs Says:

Clean house Everybody for gets about Brees high interceptions and how he looked when he was in San Diego . He 78 interceptions and he had a hall of fame runningback . Then he goes to the saints with Payton and now he’s a hall of famer . So Jamies did go to a winning team and a great coach and we probably live to regret it . So far the fan base is looking forward to him being the starter .

  131. SB Says:

Jmark………..This is one strange instance in a thread where we are surrounded by the 3 biggest JW2 ers

  132. mark2001 Says:

The thing is that if Rosen had gone on another teams active roster, which he was offered elsewhere, chances are he would be their third string QB. Can you remind me where JW is on the Saints depth chart? A third stringer is a third stringer.

YoungBucs no team has 100% drafted players but did we have any players that were truly known by being on a former team? The closest would have been Keyshawn as a Jet but they didn’t have any success. I think Brady had a little more success than anybody that we picked up as a free agent on the 2002 team. But see if you knew as much as I did about football or that team you would actually know that but obviously that’s not the case.

  137. Youngbucs Says:

Did turnovers hurt us oneil or was it only kicker and defense and run gm ? Oh I forgot the weather the time of day coaching what other excuses I forget?

  138. Oneilbucs Says:

Jamies is not a thrid string quarterback I don’t know why yall keep saying that . I know yall want the brother fail and yall hate guy but tell the truth . Everybody know that if Brees go down Jamies will be the starter . Tysom Hill is 5 for 15 179 yards with no touchdowns and with a interception . He’s like 31 years old he is not the backup quarterback . Lol 😆🤣…

  139. Lee.D Says:

Who gives a F about Jameis! If you do go become a Saint Fan!

  140. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog please Simeon rice should been super bowl mvp !!! We drafted him right ndog stfu big plays made by him in a lot of gms. I will repeat AGAIN, none of the players we picked up on that team were known around the entire world as another teams player. What is so hard about that to understand? Keyshawn was the closest thing but they didn’t win crap in NY. All of out major stars we’re ours and if you think B. Johnson, Dilger or even Keyshawn was more well know on that championship team then Brooks, Sapp, Lynch, etc… Then maybe you weren’t a Bucs fan back then.

When people think of the Bucs 2002 team they think of Sapp, Brooks, Lynch, Barber and Alstott period.

If this team wins it will be Brady hard stop. Then they think Patriots and that to me won’t mean all that much.

Going through the pain and watching something develop is special buying something is not.

  177. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Ndog – Why does it matter if it is short term? There are 32 teams and only 32 SuperBowls in 32 Years. Only a few teams will win more than ONE SuperBowl in 32 years. When you have a shot to win it all, you put all your cards on the Table and gamble BIG. This is our shot and I could care less about being a dynasty like New England. It would be great to win a second Superbowl within 32 years. If we win again in the next few year, then that is just a bonus.

As for your comment – “Brady-Winston (short term and downgrade)” – what are you smoking? 31 teams passed up on signing Winston. Saint only sign him because he was a blue light special basement bargain price for backup duty.

  178. Ndog Says:

If you’re a season ticket holder it’s not to exciting to think about watching your team get their a$$ kicked for the next decade plus. Sorry I don’t want to sign up for that, I would rather actually have a chance, sorry my bad DUH!

Arians showed him the door when he could improve the position, just as many other changes were made. Will we win a SB this year? Who knows. But we surely wouldn’t have with Jameis at the helm. Only takes one self destruct game and the season would be over…and another coach would bite the dust. It isn’t a race issue..plenty of white and black players on this team. It is an issue of a QB that has never proved he can string games together against good teams, which you have to do to win a Championship. If he played in the same ballpark from a overall perspective as Mahomes, we would welcome him with open arms.

  182. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog get off the meds Brady a downgrade from Winston 😂. Seriously tell me 1 reason winston is better?????? And save the age bull age don’t win gms ballers do your a clown.

  183. Cobraboy Says:

    Ndog said:

I will repeat AGAIN, none of the players we picked up on that team were known around the entire world as another teams player.

    Pure baloney.

You clearly were too young to pay attention to the NFL in 2002.

  184. SB Says:

” It’s like a prerequisite in our QB room now to be a rich spoiled kid from CA.

No insinuation there being as all four QBs are white?
    Sell it to someone else

  185. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

I can’t tell if El Realisto has a bigger man crush on Jameis than Ndog.

Jameis is gone!!!!!!You both can follow him to the Saints forum. I am sure he’ll give you some love over there.

  186. Ndog Says:

    Correct SB none at all.

Since I’ve been a season ticket holder for over 20 years if say that statement about me being to young is incorrect.

  187. Cobraboy Says:

Stupid is more correct, if you didn’t think all those players were raised by another team.

    Sheesh…

It’s too bad ignorance isn’t painful, because some here would be on a morphine drip.

All this because Winston literally fumbled his career away…

  188. Joe in Michigan Says:

How many Bucs fans wouldn’t be excited about winning another Super Bowl this year, because you’d be worried about the Bucs being bad in the future? Ndog, and who else?

  189. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Ndog Says, “……I’ve been a season ticket holder for over 20 years”

Working at the concession stand doesn’t count.

  190. Clean House Says:

I give the GM and coach credit for what they are trying to do. Who the hell can really argue with Tom Brady. I have always always loved and admired the Dan Marino’s and Peyton Manning’s, Roger’s and Brady’s of the league. Field generals! Cerebral…My favorite!
I was hoping JW could figure it out and become that, so much upside but so far he seems to be halfway retarded or maybe he has anxiety issues. I can acknowledge this. Hopefully his brain will start working because it’s a shame for football and for him, and for me as a supporter of him. I understand the move to Brady but not the release of Winston.

I don’t like how the coach BS talks out of both sides of his mouth. I just don’t like him on a character level. I can’t get on board with it. Don’t respect him.
I think he’s a hustler and a bit of a blowhard. People buy in and seem to like him. He won a feel good popularity contest award twice- good for him!
He’s playing with house money! No risk it blah blah blah… I’m down, but do it!!!

I love Suh, JPP, curious to see if this kid Devin White can be a smart Devensive I’m not really sold on his mind and ability to captain a defense.

Bring in Earl Thomas and Clay Mattews somehow! Grow a real pair and give the fans what they want.

If you’re going to take this all in route, go for it!

I would have preferred JW as a backup and Gabbert as an emergency. But they they didn’t have the kahonas to offer that- at least Winston can get streaky and knows the team. He did lead the NFL in total offense, passing, and passing yards per game as wel as # 2 in tds behind only the MVP.
Can’t take that away from him, check yo sheets. Saints won out on that lack of foresight and everyone being butt hurt.
Saints deem him worthy to roll with as a #2/3 hybrid, and they’re consistently pretty smart and good.

  191. JimmyJack Says:

Dude you had your time. Like SB said you gotta wait to tell us all about Winston. Till then you’ve been proven wrong.

In the meantime we dont care about that mistake riddled QB no more. He’s not on our team. We are playing next week. We care about Brady taking over under center & anybody else wearing a Bucs Jersey. We dont card about the backup wearing black and gold.

Come back when your revenant when you can tell us of how great Winston looks. Or stay irreverent for a entire year, probably more.

  192. SB Says:

    Well put JimmyJack

Until you can say “I told you so” then 32 other teams have already said “I told you so” and so have we.
Feel free after Brees retires and JW lights it up to come back and give your schpeel. Until then you are on an Island we don’t care about.

Thanks for your assessment of my Draft though.

  193. Jmarkbuc Says:

Clean house ever heard the expression if you have two quarterbacks you have none?

Add that to the fact that JW is maybe an above average baseball player trying to play football. He was never going to sign here for less than 30 million a year and he’s not even close to worth that.

The Jameis Winston error is over.

  194. SB Says:

I don’t know about that Jmark
I have Tom Brady and Drew Brees in my $ league. 🙂
Just kidding I know this ain’t fantasy.

  195. SB Says:

    Should be as simple as:
I am a Bucs fan then I am a Winston fan.
    Winston is gone.
Should be as simple now as:
I am a Bucs fan then I am a Tom Brady fan.

Never the player before the team.

  196. JimmyJack Says:

I dont know. Hear yall always saying Bruce is BS. That’s the polar opposite of how I see it. One of the things I like about BA is I see him as a straight shooter.

Maybe it’s just different for me cause I dont watch and study the press conferences. So much of that is total coach speak…..I dont see why yall buy in so much to it. It’s almost like yall dont understand the concept of coach speak.

Perfect example is Bruce last year talking about the secondary and he said its fixed……..That’s coach speak……But if you look at how he really treated the secondary Hargreaves was benched in practice(allegedly I dont know) and Bruce said something like he had to get his head out of his ass. It was obvisous there was a problem. And halfway through the season Vernon was fired. That’s just being straight with a player whose not playing to expectation…..And I’m certain Hargreaves knew exactly where he stood with BA the whole time.

There’s a reason we are seeing players join here and succeed. They actually wanna come here and play good football for Bruce…..unlike prior years where players only came to collect income. That’s called reputation. No way Bruce has that rep around the league if he was BSing his players.

  197. Clean House Says:

My perspective is slightly shifting on coaching and management beacause at least their actions are becoming somewhat consistent, mostly gutting the clown show RB room rather than isolating blame- but let’s see if these brainiacs can figure out how to stop being such a sloppy penalty ridden team!

The thing is that Licht drafted and developed a lot of players who are average at best. It’s hard to hide that with older established vets-

  198. Joe in Michigan Says:

Clean House: I wanted Jameis as a backup too, at one time. When Jameis said something along the lines of “having to Google it” to become a better QB, I understood why he wasn’t brought back.

  199. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Linebacker Noah Dawkins has signed with the bengals.

  200. Clean House Says:

You know what everyone I’m not going to remind you all season about Winston because I’m excited to see the new roster. But I can say what a I want when I want it, and you’re just gonna have to deal.

When you all check yo sheets and acknowledge that Jameis Winston was #1 in the NFL in total offense, passing, passing yards per game and #2 in TDs only behind the MVP, then i will cease. My points are true and if you won’t acknowledge them as such, I’m happy to remind you-

I don’t like your group think and sloppy analysis. Realist calls you sheep, I don’t know if you’re that smart.

We had penalties out the wazoo, no run game, clueless secondary half the year, coaching errors, and GM misses for miles including a circus kicking game-

Qb played injured with no receivers for a month.

Acknowledge these truths or be reminded every time one of you mouths off about it.

Simple as that to quote an familiar idiot.

  201. SB Says:

You have said your piece now CleanHouse

Can we move on until JW does something notable?

If not you are not a Bucs’ fan.

  202. Clean House Says:

Joe in Michigan- the problem is that no one seems to speak Jameis Winston’s language- the dude was talking about learning about the great qbs of the game- he researched the past just like Mike Tyson used to study all the great old time boxers. The kid loves the game. He used google just like every other human. I have my strong doubts that Arians took on the responsibility of truly mentoring him- he was on his fat behind in his golf cart and chose to delegate- he’s old and lazy we all know that-

Fine- get Tom Brady- I don’t hate on it- but don’t make snide remarks about the kid every chance you get- when you were derelict I’m your coaching responsibilities, the gig didn’t whisper jack- he just wasn’t fully invested- let’s call it what it is- he’s said the level of conversation and understanding is night and day and very enjoyable for him- I get it don’t fight battles you don’t have to- get the best guy- But have some class about the outgoing player- especially when you and your team are so slack in so many other areas!

  203. Joe in Michigan Says:

Clean House says: I don’t like your group think and sloppy analysis. Realist calls you sheep, I don’t know if you’re that smart.

Pot, meet kettle. This is why you, Ndog, and El Buco Fake-A-Leasto get slammed, deservedly so, because you think you’re all-knowing.

  204. Clean House Says:

I’ve been a Bucs fan since Vinny was drafted I can say what I want.

  205. Joe in Michigan Says:

Clean House: I agree with you that Winston loves the game. I disagree with you on the Google comment, that was an obvious potshot at the Buccaneers coaching staff. JW made his own bed, now he has to sleep in it.

  206. Clean House Says:

Joe in michigan- what I’m saying is true- losing is a team effort

  207. Joe in Michigan Says:

Yes, you can say what you want. That doesn’t make you smarter than everyone else, as your post insinuated.

  208. Clean House Says:

I’m happy to acknowledge your points but I’ve yet to hear anyone acknowledge mine.

  209. SB Says:

    Answer me Clean House!

Can you just SHUT UP about jw until he throws another TD in the NFL AT LEAST or not???

    He is GONE

Either get on board or walk the plank as a troll

    It’s that simple

  210. SB Says:

WE DON”T CARE ABOUT YOUR POINTS!!!
EVERY NFL exec and coach knows more than you.

SHUT UP about JW or be labeled a troll

  211. JimmyJack Says:

Clean House we acknowledged all of them points a couple thousand times over the past five years. Now he’s not our QB no more. There’s more relevant stuff to worry about.

I for one will be very happy to get this season started in a few days and fully forget about the past.

    GO BUCS!!!

  212. BigMacAttack Says:

I like this move. Definitely worth a shot. Griffin isn’t any good and it was time for him to go anyway. Good move and doesn’t cost anything really.

  213. Joe in Michigan Says:

Clean House: What is the sense of arguing about a player that’s no longer on the Bucs? If you can’t get over it, you need to follow the Saints, and hope he sees the field this year.

  214. Clean House Says:

    SB

Every team except the one that he’s on as a back up to a hall of famer.

Oooh….you gonna label me a troll? You sure do hold a lot of power.

I will suspend my JW commentary for now, because I’m excited about the new season.

Will you be sure to remind others not to mock him when TB12 has a good game?

    I don’t like bullies.

  215. SB Says:

Tom Brady is your QB right now if you are a Bucs fan.

  216. SB Says:

I hope that “suspension” you talk about is permanent with your myopia.

  217. Howard Cosell Says:

Get up in the morning, look in the mirror
One less toothbrush hanging in the stand, yeah
My face ain’t looking any younger
Now I can see love’s taken a troll on me

    She’s gone, she’s gone
    Oh I, oh I
I better learn how to face it
    She’s gone, she’s gone
    Oh I, oh I
I’d pay the devil to replace her
    She’s gone, and she’s gone
    Oh why, what went wrong?

  218. Clean House Says:

I’ve got the player that I like’s back, that’s all it’s about really.

  219. SB Says:

Also, he is not back up to a HOFer. He is third string to said HOFer. A gadget QB that went undrafted is ahead of him

  220. Howard Cosell Says:

Maybe all these signing are the Glazer’s apology for Winston?

  221. Clean House Says:

We shall see- they have to save face because they just paid hill and they like him. Bridgewater came in for relief last time- who knows

  222. Jeffbuc Says:

Joe do you have any intel on succup. How he did in practice and how he won the kicking job. I looked at his career stats and he had 4 good seasons and 3 ok seasons. And last year he was 1-6 on field goals. Is he really accurate from 40 in. That’s what I care about 45 plus is a 50/50 to me. I want a guy that lines up for a 38 and you can go drain out some big storm brew. Without hearing my firiends yelling laughing he missed it you can’t make this up. I know you are well informed how do you feel about him being our kicker.

  223. Clean House Says:

If the glazers wanted to apologize for something, they should have fired Licht.
But he’s getting a chance to redeem himself with his attempt at fantasy football.

    I’m excited to watch!

  224. Joe in Michigan Says:

My favorite NFL player was Derrick Brooks. I lived in Pensacola for a while, which is Brooks hometown. Everyone in P’cola loves Brooks. Then one day, the Bucs cut Derrick Brooks. Did I badmouth the Bucs coach, like Ndog does? Did I wish bad things on the Bucs franchise, like El Buco Realisto? No, the Bucs were still my team. I got over it. This is what grownups do, they don’t throw temper tantrums when they don’t get their way.

  225. Clean House Says:

Well I was actually pretty angry when they did Brooks that way, as well as Lynch. I stopped watching for a bit. And they got what they deserved- they started sucking.

I’m guess I’m childishly loyal to plyers I like. I’m also allowed to be critical of the management and coaching of my team. That’s part of being a fan, but thanks for the lecture , Dad.

  226. BigMacAttack Says:

Hey Joe in Motown. I think a tantrum or two is ok as long as you get over it. Venting is healthy. Now Guys clinging to JW ball sweat is a different story

  227. Joe in Michigan Says:

You’re welcome, Grasshopper. These little life lessons will help you, if you put them to use. Hahaha

  228. Joe in Michigan Says:

BMA: That should’ve been a one week thing, at most, IMHO.

  229. Clean House Says:

If a fan thinks the franchise are making mistakes at the core, it’s within the realm to hate on everyone upto te owners? Remember the Culverhouses? Everyone hated them. Are you saying they were all bad fans?

If you’re true you must love Hugh?

I think Licht and BA get the benefit of the doubt.

I’m on board with Brady, Suh, and JPP, Gronk, McCoy

Fournette is a great signing. Godwin is a great draft pick. I like Jensen, Marpet and Cappa seem pretty good- not really loving Smith

    Dean seems really promising, Vea

I think there’s guys are all time gamers and I respect those personnel decisions immensely.

We have a few foundational Bucs in Evans and Lavonte

Licht is turning this thing around with some good guidance-

    Overall I’m happy

  230. Clean House Says:

JW has to prove himself still- He can defend himself with his play- after all he is a Saint- I’m done

Ready for the season with the GOAT

JW won my Noles an undefeated title so I’ll always love him and defend his upside and talent!

  231. Clean House Says:

At least I’m not a Gator stuck defending VH3

  232. Clean House Says:

I’ve seen him be clutch vs Auburn when it really counted. So I still believe he’s got that inner juice to be great- and eat some W’s

  233. Joe in Michigan Says:

I strongly disliked Culverhouse, mainly because he was a cheapskate. You can’t say that about the current Bucs owners, with the talent that’s been brought in and the large coaching staff.

  234. D1 Says:

    Clean house,

” the problem is that no one seems to speak Jameis Winston’s language- ”

    Bingo!

I think that is the key to winston, finding someone who can cut thru all the BS and get him to learn a new way to play the position. And, then transfer that process to off the field ie; daily life.

Listening to his comments in New Orleans, I’m disappointed for him as a person and a player.

Last, the idea of signing winston as a backup to Brady makes sense ifor you’re a fan. I understand completely.

Problem is that there’s no future for a QB who has lost the trust of his teammates. I see winston guys throwing out production stats as if that’s all the evidence to support their opinion. Frankly, it’s not!

In fact, it’s not even a good argument IF said player has lost his ability to lead.
There’s zero doubt that happened to winston. Comments made by current and former Coaches and teammates leave no room for doubt on this issue.

Anyone who says Winston’s production numbers are proof of his greatness has to ultimately explain why didnt being #1 in passing yards fail to secure his position with this team or any other.

If production was as relevant as you and others suggest, then reality wouldn’t be contrary to this belief.

Unfortunately, reality is this…. production did NOT save his job nor did it help him secure another one.

These are the facts and they are incontrovertible!

  235. Clean House Says:

    D1 I think that’s a solid take.
    Kudos

I don’t however think he necessarily lost them due to character as some suggest. Rather more his inability to change his dramatic bad play. They felt like they were peeing in the wind.

  236. D1 Says:

“I’ve seen him be clutch vs Auburn when it really counted. So I still believe he’s got that inner juice to be great”

No question about it. But there’s another factor to consider.

Does winston have the inner juice to not suck?

  237. D1 Says:

    Clean,

Totally agree with your opinion. It comes down to can his teammates trust him to play at a certain level.

I don’t recall any teammates or coaches saying they didn’t like him on a personal level.

    It’s just the professional level.

Just to be up front, I like winston and I wish him well. As a QB, He’s too inconsistent and it’s not possible to keep him with the team.

The best thing for the bucs and winston was to part ways. Sometimes things don’t work out as planned and change is necessary for both parties to succeed. Hopefully, this is one of these situations. Both sides can emerge better, rather than one side must fail for the other to succeed.

  238. Tampabuscsbro Says:

You old timers around here need to remember Culverhouse better. I wasn’t alive when he owned the team.

He was a racist cheapskate that thought owning a sports team was just sucking as much money as you could from it. I don’t think there was or ever will be a worse NFL team owner.

  239. Youngbucs Says:

D1 good post good honest truth without a narrative!!!!!

  240. D1 Says:

    Clean,

    Consistency is the issue.

No question winston has juice to play at an elite level.

The question is can he play at that level for more than 3 consecutive games .

So far, hes not been able to accomplish this and it’s , imo, cause for such a divided opinion on him from the fan base.

  241. D1 Says:

    Young,

    Thank you Sir.

    Lively Thread!!!!!!!!!!
I Love it as I am in Mountain time!!

  246. SB Says:

    Also, Nice D1 and Youngbuc!

  247. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I only just learned of this. I love this signing!

No, I’m not exagerating. Here’s why:

    • He was signed to the practice squad as part of the veteran additions, so other teams cannot snag him away.
    • Blaine Gabbert is so fragile he’ll probably get injured stretching.
    • The only thing that bothered me during the draft is not getting a QB to groom. This at least provides a potential option in that area of need.

Those saying Griffin is the #3, what is your source? I don’t see the depth chart on the Bucs website atm. Is it because he was slated to be the #3 last year?

There is no way I would be comfortable with Gabbert as the #2.

  248. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

On a side note, you can always spot the classy fans by their lack of foul language. The others? Well I haven’t been around much for a reason. I just get tired of the spitefulness.

  249. «Delusional Inteloligence» Says:

Regardless of what angle I look at this….. incredibly, this actually makes sense. Well done Bucs! Now the Mike Glennon mob (I was a closet member) has a new QB to get behind.

  250. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

The Bucs are starting to make moves that good teams make. I like it.

  251. James Taylor Says:

Look the kid went into two situations where he was expected to contribute right away. He also was cocky and arrogant and the last two years has taught him humility. The kid needed an attitude adjustment and time to actually learn how to be a professional quarterback in the NFL. He may still end up a bust, but he’s only 23 years old and he gives the Bucs a young developmental project at low salary cost and not even a roster spot who has franchise quarterback upside based on his scouting profile coming out of UCLA. Watching and emulating Tom Brady is the single best mentor for an arrogant young quarterback who needs to learn how to be a good teammate. As for Brady and Jimmy G. Tommy could sense Bill was pushing him out the door when he felt he still gave the Pats the best chance to win. This time Tom knows he is in the twilight of his career and Josh Rosen is no threat to take his job at any time in the next two years. He also has the chance to build a legacy by turning this kid around and helping him reach his potential. This was one of the few missing pieces on the roster i.e. a potential quarterback of the future.

Let me say one final thing. 33 years ago we gave up on a very talented quarterback who had suffered behind a terrible offensive line and a lack of weapons and had some pretty bad stats so we sent him off to San Francisco for a 2nd round pick and then we picked Vinny Testaverde with the No 1 overall pick. That QB went to a highly successful team with a great line and weapons like Jerry Rice and John Taylor and he played behind a HOF QB for a few years before he got his chance to show his ability. Now I’m not saying Josh Rosen is the next Steve Young but I am saying that sometimes going to the right situation can be the difference between success and failure. He never really had a chance in Arizona or Miami, but he might be able to mature and learn how to be a professional quarterback and have a successful career with Tom Brady as a mentor and this coaching staff to give him confidence but check him on his attitude.

  252. Roy T. Buford Says:

What does this thread tell me?

    1. The pain and depair Winston caused this team, along with those in key positions that tolerated it for far too long still cuts deep with Bucs fans. Five yars of this.

    2. The jabs on Winston at the fact behind item 1 above means it’s good therapy to invoke the pain and despair to remind Bucs fans something like that should never happen again.

    3. NDog clearly is loyal to Winston for an unknown reason, and that love is pretty sick; his head is really messed up.

    4. 250 plus comments, seemingly 90% of them being con-Winston who is not even the topic of the article, is too much for a guy who is not on the team anymore (thank goodness), just one week out from the season’s start.

  253. DoooshLaRue Says:

Good points Roy, but sometimes this site needs a good JayMiss bashing thread to help with all the trauma he caused us fans for 5 years!

  254. Bucsfanman Says:

    Good “no-risk” signing.
There’s a reason that Ryan Griffin has rarely seen the field. If he had talent, he wouldn’t be the #3 QB. Griffin is also a no-risk player. The only difference between the two right now is that Rosen has an upside. Griffin will be out of football before he ever completes an entire game.
I’m not knocking him, he’s a Buc. Unlike others, I root for the TEAM. Facts are facts though. Ryan Griffin has a combined 18, EIGHTEEN yards since entering the league in 2013.

  255. Oneilbucs Says:

Roy T Jamies cause you pain he never cause me pain him and the hold team . I sleep great at night rather we win or lose . And it will be the same thing this and every year I’m living on earth . But I’m sure the San Diego fans said the same thing about Brees when they brought in Rivers lol 😆😂 …. Brees threw 79 interceptions with a hall of fame runningback and now he’s a hall of fame quarterback as soon as he went with Sean Payton .

  256. mark2001 Says:

Just a thought. It is one thing to be a leader and look great on a team that is one of the best in the nation..or league… and make big plays to blow a game open, or occasionally make some big plays for a comeback victory. It is another to take a team that is average, lift the team to play like their best selves, and lead a comeback victory against better teams with better talent, particularly when the victories often are “moral victories”, because by the end of the season, football will likely be a spectator activity for you.
