New Kicker Succop Talks About His Health & Readiness

September 2nd, 2020

New Bucs K Ryan Succop

The Buccaneers’ newest kicker, Ryan Succop (and Joe has new information that makes it very clear that it’s Succop’s job to lose), answered questions this morning about what led to his phone call from the Bucs last week.

Offseason knee surgery following the 2018 season halted a very solid and at times excellent Tennessee Titans career for Succop, who returned to the Titans in 2019 but struggled and landed on injured reserve.

Joe asked Succop when he was healthy enough to have his agent start calling teams this year, and Succop said the process of sending teams videos of his current work was just one or two months ago.

Joe thinks that’s important. It’s not like Succop was sitting healthy and on the street for a long time begging for a job.

He turns 34 in a couple of weeks and maintains that he’s very confident because of his preparation. Joe asked Succop how he’s been kicking since he got here Tuesday. Succop said he kicked well yesterday and he and Matt Gay are off today before a practice in the stadium tomorrow.

Roster cuts are due by 4 p.m. Saturday.

I don’t trust Matt Gay–he lost us a game or two last year–completely his doing, rather have an experienced kicker–put matt gay on the practice squad bench

Nobody knows waht will happen, but it seems to me, as well JOe you suggest, that is on Succup hands, if he is just average he will keep the job…..Doesn´t look that BA trusts Gay anymore…..

  6. FirstTimePoster Says:

Come on Joe(s), at least spell the guys name right.

The #1 attribute a coach requires in a kicker: confidence.

I suspect Arians has seen enough of Gay. Dude had multiple chances. If he didn’t have a monster leg he may have been cut before. I suspect Arians has been hoping he could get his kicks straight.

Seems he was better last camp than this one.

    So the team moves on.

Let’s hope SuccOp plugs the leak.

Here’s a thought. Let’s hope that our offense lives up to it’s explosive promise and the defense improves on the second half of last year which was excellent.

Perhaps the kicker becomes FAR less important. Maybe we could simply score enough TD’s to make our kicker an afterthought.

Please Succop, heal my aching Buc Nuts.

  10. ModHairKen Says:

    He’s a Succop but he’s not Gay.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

So are you dopes going to be blaming Brady for when the kicker loses us two games? Of course not, because that’s what people with no integrity do.
