“Let’s Exercise Some Common Sense Here”

September 18th, 2020

Pleas for reason.

Joe’s starting to get worn out from this concocted drama that Bucco Bruce Arians has turned off park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady through his honest, public wrist-slapping of Brady’s picks.

But man, the national talking heads are eating this up. One man, though, is trying to throw cold water on all the hot takes, and that would be screamin’ Stephen A. Smith of BSPN.

In talking about the drama between Arians and Brady, Smith confessed too much is being made of the storyline.

“Let’s exercise some common sense here,” SAS began. “You really, really think that Bruce Arians has hugged Tom Brady from the moment he arrived? Has never said anything? Has never been critical? Has never coached him? Has never had a conversation with him, about the need to be critical when it is called upon?

“You think Tom Brady at 43, even though he is a six-time champion and been to nine Super Bowls came in there and said, ‘You know what? I’m Tom Brady. Don’t you even think about insulting me or say a critical word about me.’ Of course not.”

Not only is that a helluva point by SAS, Joe witnessed it. Joe saw and heard Arians unload on the Bucs offense in a training camp practice. And yeah, Brady was on the practice field with the first-team offense when Arians blew his top.

SAS made another salient point: If Arians, well-known to be an in-your-face guy when you screw up, gave Brady a complete pass while Arians chewed out everyone else, the chemistry in the locker room would be completely shot.

Joe agrees with Smith; this stuff is over-the-top hyperbole. And Joe has also made the argument it is quite likely Arians did have a “truce” with Brady, in the sense that Arians was playing a Bobby Knight/Bill Walsh mind game to motivate the rest of the Bucs.

Oh, there is no question who is in charge here.

    It’s Tom Brady.

  2. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Are we going to see ANY articles on Sunday’s game? Match-ups, etc.? Wednesday pressers?

  3. Hodad Says:

Don’t think Tom is in charge, but he should be. I’d feel better if he was calling his own plays instead of BL. One thing I will say, BA picked on a lot of players this week. What he didn’t do is call out his ST’s coach, and himself for all the slop we saw. I think he would’ve served the team better if he took more responsibility for the loss then all the finger pointing.

  4. Pablo Says:

Pablo thinks Arians was wrong when he said Brady needs to show a little more Grit & Determination 🤦🏾‍♂️

  5. Bradinator Says:

When Stephen A. Smith starts to make sense, I know we’ve entered the Twilight Zone. I’m pretty sure Tom Brady knew what Arians was all about when he came here and that if he F’d up he’d hear something about it. Welcome to the National Spotlight, Bucs Fans! We wanted to be talked about Nationally, and here we are! We should rejoice! We actually have a QB that people want to make a up dumb rumors about.

  6. Sarasota Garey Says:

Brady was pissed in his press conference lol

  7. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Roy

    Nice trolling Tom Brady.

I’m not sure why you’re on this mission with all your comments trying to tear Brady down

……..Roy, you must be a Jameis Winston apologist/lover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Yeah,

I saw Brady yesterday in his meeting with the meeting…..you can tell he wasn’t happy. Hopefully he takes his anger out on the field against the panthers this Sunday.

……cause if the Bucs don’t and if the Bucs lose….OMG….people are gonna lose it in Tampa Bay!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Miller5252 Says:

I can’t believe this is day 5 and the Brady beat down in the media continues to go. I know Joe doesn’t think that the limited time that the Bucs has to get ready this year was a factor because every team had the same time, but it mattered. 2 examples of it…. the Bucs D. Same players across the board with the same coach and play calling, they played great. Second is the saints. Same team, coaches and play calling. So both had no new players in the important positions that lead a team. So Tampa asks Brady to learn a complete new offense with new players in a small amount of time….. I just don’t see it. Brady said as much at the beginning, studying, where to go, how to get there, new people, and learning. I would ask anyone that quit a job and then hired on to a new company in a similar roll how long it takes you to get used to how things need to go.

One last thing…. how about the new uniforms??? So much better!!

  10. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Starting to wonder if Brady was Bruce’s choice……

  11. Paul Says:

Childish Moniker that just will not go away:

    park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady

Remind us readers again JOE why you use that Disrespectful classless Moniker?

Because it’s Witty? Funny? Still loyal to JW?

LAME!!! I know it’s only 50% of the time but……

  12. Clean House Says:

    Joe,

You really seem to love this Bill Walsh, Bobby Knight comparison-

Nice idea- and both great coaches, but Arians is not in the same ballpark as them.

And would the team really be lost in the locker room? Highly doubt it, Brady has ultimate locker room credibility based on his resume alone.

  13. Joe Says:

When Stephen A. Smith starts to make sense, I know we’ve entered the Twilight Zone.

    LOL

You really seem to love this Bill Walsh, Bobby Knight comparison-

Two of Joe’s favorite coaches. 🙂

  14. hammerhead Says:

It’s crazy that this is even a discussion. This is a total nothingburger. Made up drama.

  15. Etzel Says:

Roy T. Buford has a HUGE crush on Tommy Botox. Think you need to admit to yourself that this ain’t about football anymore, bud.

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

If our Bucs don’t win at least 9 games this year, Mike Johnson will buy the rope from home depot. You guys find the trees. Lets..Hang’em high baby! Arians, Brady Gronk and of course Smitty. And Just-us for all.

  17. Etzel Says:

Has anyone asked Tom how much more fun he’s having this year?? Too much discipline for you, Tommy?? Well, enjoy the onslaught of crushing penalties. One after another

  18. Roy T. Buford Says:

    @BucsAnthem…what are you talking about?

  19. ModHairKen Says:

TB is a grown up and he has 6 rings. He’s not fragile. He’s not some 24 year old who wears a suit with no socks. A little berating from Arians isn’t going to make him melt.

Arians needs to check himself just as vociferously. He’s responsible for the loss.

  20. Godlovesbucs Says:

Of course brady was pissed in his presser. He threw 2 picks, one returned for a td. Winners get pissed when their play contributed to a loss.

  21. SufferingSince76 Says:

And Paul just won’t go away. Same childish posts whining about nicknames and nothing to say about football. Not 50%, but 100% of the time. Witty? Funny? No. Boring? Repetitive? Definitely. Why, Paul, why?
