“I Have To Take Blame For That”

September 13th, 2020

Accepts responsibility.

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians took the bullets for his Bucs tonight.

Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game, said he thought the team was ready to rock and roll today. But, he confessed, the team wasn’t and it showed in the score.

“Penalty-wise and turnover-wise, I have to take the blame for that,” Arians said. “I thought we were more prepared than what we were.”

As for the botched kickoff return, Arians claimed that was High School Football 101 that violating.

“You never back up on a kickoff [return],” Arians said of the Three Stooges play by Mike Edwards and Mazzi Wilkins. “That was Bucs beating Bucs. We did some things that were inexplicable.”

Arians tried to temper the disappointing loss by calling it “Round One.”

What about the God awful play calling on offense in the first half? That would be what I’d want to hear about. He needs to publicly berate Leftwich like he did last season.

  2. Christopher Schiefen Says:

    Mazzi Wilkins?

  3. TheBradyBunch Says:

I agree. Looked like a very poorly coached team and the offense seems to have zero rhythm. It appears that they have all these toys and they can’t figure out how to use them. The first drive was very nice. From that point on it looked like an offense that had no real game plan and was improvising from play to play. Coaching was definitely an issue today.

  4. tbbucs3 Says:

The Saints controlled the entire game from start to finish.

It wasnt a blowout but it was a “manhandle”. Thats concerning to say the least.

  5. Bucs2win Says:

It looked as if the aints were trying to run up the score on my beloved Bucs.

  6. orlbucfan Says:

This is OT, but I noticed the uniforms were back to the old design and not hideous. I hope that is a permanent change. Go Bucs!

  7. mark2001 Says:

Who cares about Mazzi who.. Back to the practice squad…forever.

  8. tbbucs3 Says:

When was the last time the Bucs played a clean game?

Im tired of always putting a slopfest product out on the field.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

orlbucfan – yeah, the uniforms were changed over the summer to the previous design. There is literally no one that disagrees with you, the old ones were trash.

The downside, however, is that seeing #12 in that pewter uniform just makes me see Trent Dilfer. That’s something I never wanted to see again, and yet when Brady is forced to move in the pocket, he looks just like the D-man (not when he’s passing, but the way he moves is kind of clumsy like Dilfer). It’s disturbing.

  10. Bucnuts Says:

I just hope Godwin and evans are ok

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Bucnuts – that cheapshot, purposeful hit to the head on Godwin should have been responded to by Suh clipping Brees on that last drive. That’s really the only thing I’m upset by today, how you let one of your star players get targeted like that, then have a gadget play ran on you in garbage time, and don’t respond.

  12. Kobe Faker Says:

“Not sure if the Bucsheep saw the game today

    THIS IS A FACT

That 43 year old body will not last 15 more games with that playcalling and blocking

    Eom”

    Kobe Faker

  13. Red86 Says:

Jameel Dean and Donovan Smith screwed this game up badly.

  14. Aceofaerospace Says:

It was the first game. Still gelling. Relax. It’ll be alright.

  15. Luke Says:

In a way same old Bucs. Thank goodness for easy schedule

  16. Buddy Says:

Joe- where is the Tom Brady post game presser??? He’s not gonna talk after a loss?? He did in NE

  17. Elita Vita Says:

Yes the Buck stops with the head coach. Get it together guys. This team is too talented to not perform with excellence as the season progresses. Is Bruce Arians offense completely non-existent? All Tom Brady check downs and RB passes. Figure out how to better utilize your supremely talented receivers. We will do better next week.

  18. DBS Says:

The special teams coach needs to be fired. This is beyond ridiculous now. And the player that made that stupid play never need be on an NFL field again.

  19. Athlete Says:

Just an FYI, This team is not built for dinking and dunking. You have two 1000 yard receivers on the team already. Now you put one of the best tight ends ever to play the game there and then upgrade your running back group as much as humanly possible. Please find a quarterback that could throw the ball down field. Not a control the clock quarterback!!!!!

  20. Godlovesbucs Says:

This is a team playing for the firsr time against a team that has been together for the most part for the last 5+ years. Not too worried about some of the errors/ continuity issues. What i am worried about is donovan smith and the special teams.

  21. DBS Says:

    Who would that be Ndog?

  22. Bucsfan951 Says:

Holy crap the Bucs sucked out loud!

PASS THE CROWN!!! WHAT??? WE’RE OUT? UGH!!!!!!!!!

  23. Owlykat Says:

We still should win 10 games this year and make the playoffs and by then we will look much better then they did today, but we need to trade off D. Smith to the Falcons for a second pick, move Wirts to LT before Smith gets Brady killed.
Then Haeg can play RT! The Saints are a hand full at home for any team. Mickens needs to be fired. Any dunce can fair catch on the 10 yard line. BA did a great job getting Wirts developed to start today and block the top Saints sacker all day.

  24. Cainishere Says:

Relax folks Tom will learn what we already know. The Bucs get better as the season progresses. It was our first Super Bowl dress rehearsal.
I was pleased with the team to be honest.
The Bucs could have laid down but didn’t.
We lost the Time of Possession committed tons of penalties but here is what else I saw. I noticed that the Saints offense was having troubles against the Bucs and even the secondary was active. Saints star WR corps were nothing but chirping crickets all game. The Defensive line and LBS are just pure beauty to watch!!! What is up with those Oline penalties? At least they straitened them out. Wirfs first game not bad! not bad at all.
I saw many many positives. Special teams needs work. AWESOME punting!! The Mazzi thing was not his fault at all. I was impressed with him. He looks like he could rip one off if given the right blocking. Guys I enjoyed the game even though Tom did not. He showed the Buccaneers how to not give up nor count him out. I hope he disciplines with some heart. I am sure he does.
I think the short game needs to be introduced as opposed to constantly aiming for the bombs! I was impressed with RJ’s efforts tonight. He kept busting through that line and making peeps miss. Long passes all the time = HAMSTRING ISSUES!!! Go BUCS!!!!

  25. Mike Says:

I’m tired of hearing how talented this team is. Until we make the playoffs and win a game or 2 in the playoffs this team is a losing football team. And we played like it today

  26. Oneilbucs Says:

I told yall superbowl or bust no excuses all yall would be blaming Jamies for this lost . So now we have to blame Brady and Smith.

  27. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Someone mentioned pewter uniform. I saw all white. We didn’t win in all white, we won wearing pewter. May seem small, but why establish something, and then twice now go away from it?

  28. Buccfan37 Says:

I thought the Bucs ditched the alarm clock numbers. These must be new age alarm clock numbers. Agree that pewter should be a basic Buc uniform color.

  29. TOM Says:

We got the three stooges, Licht, Arians & Leftwich. What a waste. Then there’s the Keystone cops. Edwards, Dean, Smith & Via & company. May I ask? Did Evans sit out the 1st three quarters?
