Highlights Of O.J. Howard’s Chat Today

September 21st, 2020

O.J. opens up

Tom Brady calls O.J. Howard “Juice,” but Howard says there’s another Buccaneer who is all about juice.

The fourth-year tight end was a guest on Buccaneers Radio this evening and gushed about newcomer running back Leonard Fournette.

“We all know that he’s a great player,” Howard said. “This guy, you know, he’s got a lot of juice.” And Howard went on to say Fournette on the field gets him more amped up.

What about all those drops by Bucs yesterday? Howard said wind was no factor and it was more about Bucs pass catchers failing on “the little details.”

“Sometimes it just comes down to the concentration,” Howard said.

*On chemistry with Tom Brady, Howard said it’s a work in progress with the whole team. “We can rep things all day in practice and get the ideal look, but sometimes in a game people do different things.” … He said coaches and players are still working with Brady on the precision of how he wants routes run, and there’s lots of focus on what Tom wants.

*Speaking on Antoine Winfield, Jr., Howard really sounded excited, noting he sees Winfield’s attention to detail and coaches rarely ccoach him up.

*The Sickness has kept Howard from going out on his off days, and he said he doesn’t even run around the neighborhood or work out a public park any longer. He said the team is seeking safe ways to bond and today was talking about reviving position-group-specific dinners and finding the safest ways to do it.

*Howard kept his Brady touchdown ball from opening day. He said it’ll go next to his college national championship trophies. Fun fact: Howard also caught the first Bucs training camp touchdown from Brady.

*Howard says it’s striking that Brady is so chill and so humble

*“Gronk’s teaching me a lot about [life] after football,” Howard said.

*On Tristan Wirfs: “The kid’s the real deal. That’s all I have to say. His film speaks for itself,” Howard said, emphasizing Wirfs’ strength.

*During his long COVID quarantine/break, Howard said he got into biking and grilling.

*On NFL maturity, Howard said, “I finally just started learning how to take care of my body as far as the max way.” He talked about “prehab,” hydrating properly and learning what to eat over time that specifically works for him.

  2. Lamarcus Says:

Yea i think its time for the OJ Stocker name to come back

  3. Anonymous Says:

    That’s was funny OJ Stocker

  4. Clean House Says:

Better figure out how to concentrate bud, you get paid millions of dollars

  5. SlyPirate541 Says:

Fournette and OJ have crossed paths for almost a decade. Bama-LSU, SEC Championship games, R1s in same draft class, living in the same state … They probably go all the way back to recruiting days.

I wonder how well they knew each other before becoming teammates?

  6. Beeej Says:

That may be the major point of Gronk on this team–to teach OJ how to be a tight end

  7. Mike Says:

OJ is just auditioning for other teams right now & stay healthy

  8. Mitch Says:

Joe did you see the PFF tribe graded Wirfs as the #1 offensive rookie of week 2?

  9. BucThis Says:

Neighbor is good friends with OJ. Apparently, he won’t commit to putting roots down in TB because he wants to end up in New Orleans. Don’t be surprised if he ends up on the trading block.

  10. unbelievable Says:

    @BucThis-

Your neighbor should inform him he makes enough money to own a home in both places lol.

I absolutely love New Orleans (the city). One of my favorite places in the US.

But he’s a goddamn Buc, act like it!

  11. orlbucfan Says:

He and Brate need to have their numbers called more often in the passing game. That’s on BA and no one else. Gronk is a fossil.

  12. Cainishere Says:

Gronk is doing what we are asking him to do and yes he has screwed up a few times but I believe he will settle down and concentrate.
Stop letting in so many distractions outside of football.
You are getting paid 10 million bucks to focus on the Buccaneers.
The idea is for you to PASS ON your knowledge to younger players and make a run at the championship.

  13. Cainishere Says:

Tom You got to Bulk up that arm and back. STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING SIR PLEASE take the extra time and bulk up in strength.
Gronk and D. Smith need it as well. Watson and Miller too.
I already know Evans is a beast in training and conditioning
    GO BUCS!!

  14. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

I’m still not sold on OJ. He seems like he’s coasting on his talent. He could be so good if he was dedicated.

  15. Ndog Says:

It’s crazy the best QB in the NFC South is on the Saints bench. What’s wrong with this league?

  16. View from 132 Says:

Anyone watching the Raiders on MNF can see why we are wasting a great group of tight ends with this stupid offense design. The Saints cannot match up with the TEs, but we didn’t take advantage.

  17. Jerk0404 Says:

Go away moron. Can you really not let it go?

  18. Tbbucs3 Says:

Man Gruden and his west coast offense with Brady would’ve been a much better fit than Brady with Arians

  19. The Man Says:

    Go Raiders!

  20. BUC CHEEKS Says:

    Chuck ya!!!!!!!!! Let’s gooooooooo

  21. Rod Munch Says:

Gruden with his finest coaching job since Jan 2003.

  22. BUC CHEEKS Says:

Thanks chucky for the memories and the W tonight

  23. Rod Munch Says:

You never bet against a team opening a new stadium, they just seem to win these games.

  24. BUC CHEEKS Says:

How’d that work out for the eagles ROD?!!!!! 03’

  25. Rod Munch Says:

BUC CHEEKS – Haha, true. 17-0 is how it worked out.

Still, if I’m putting my money down, I’m not betting against a team opening a new stadium.

  26. BillyBucFan Says:

I can tell you after watching the Slimy Saints lose tonight, Howard needs to mimick what Darren Waller did.

Showed the way to beat the Saints.

  27. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Green Bay is my favorite team next week!

  28. Jmarkbuc Says:

Maybe Gronk could teach him about football, instead of life after football.
