Arians And The Punisher/Finisher Role

September 22nd, 2020

Bucco Bruce Arians had a twinkle in his eye yesterday while speaking to dangerous Dan Lucas of WFLA-TV.

The topic was the man Arians unleashed on the Panthers in the second half of Sunday’s game: bruising running back Leonard Fournette.

With 12 carries for 103 yards, Fournette proved too much for Carolina with the game on the line.

“It’s great to have a player like Leonard Fournette with fresh legs in the fourth quarter,” Arians said.

That comment makes Joe wonder if Arians wants to make sure Fournette is ready to wear down a defense in the second half with his punishing but explosive style at 6-1, 240 pounds. And the only way to be sure Fournette is optimized for that role is to use him sparingly in the first half.

Joe would just roll with Fournette over Ronald Jones and manage his carries if necessary. But on Monday, Arians said Fournette wasn’t ready for an all-in role since he’s still learning the playbook.

I like how we handled fournette.

We kept him fresh til we had to seal the game away at the end. He punched it in for us.

The FO definitively needs to put JAX on the Christmas Card list…They did the Bucs one hell of a favor.

I’d rather see Fournette start the game and help them build a lead. Jones seems to find a way to hit a defender square in the chest and get wrapped up and dropped for a 1 yard gain.

Cappa is under the radar as the weak link of this group, and the Left Guard looked pretty abused at times Sunday, too.

I don’t mind a RB rotation. I think last six Super Bowl winners were all pretty much running back by committee throughout the regular season . Maybe some more lopsided than others , but I think the Seahawks with Marshawn Lynch was the last instance of a team going all the way on the legs of one guy throughout the reg season

Hmm. Fournette is still learning the playbook? Rojo still learning how to play! And not very well!

The Punisher is a great nickname for him Joe. Especially if he keeps doing what hes doing.
