Bucs Will Be QB Heavy

September 1st, 2020

Bucs backup QB Ryan Griffin.

The Bucs currently have four quarterbacks on the roster. And that may continue next week when the Bucs and all NFL teams set their rosters and practice squads.

You likely never heard much of Reid Sinnett. At least not on this site. Joe focuses on players that Joe and the masses care about, bad or good. A fourth-string scrub, short of being married to a Hollywood starlet, doesn’t move Joe’s needle. Especially a guy who played at a Division II school on the west coast.

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians was asked about how many quarterbacks he may keep. Arians previously spoke about potentially keeping third-stringer Ryan Griffin in a quarantine of some sort just in case there was an outbreak of The Sickness on the roster and the Bucs suddenly had to use their Griffin in an emergency.

Well, now it sounds like Griffin won’t be on a practice squad, the way Arians spoke today.

“We will probably keep three [quarterbacks] for sure and then wait and see whether we go to four,” Arians said. “We’ll wait and see.”

As for how many quarterbacks will be on the 53-man roster, Arians said, “Probably” there will be three quarterbacks.

Joe guesses in theory the Bucs still could keep Griffin locked down and isolated and not keep a fourth quarterback on the practice squad.

With all due respect to Grffin I couldn’t justify paying a 30 year old quarterback 1.675 million dollars when hes only thrown four passes in his entire career. Its not like hes going to be the quarterback of the future. Just saying

And you never will be SB.

I’m surprise more teams don’t draft athletic QBs that can play an active part of the offense. Kordell Stewart being the most famous. Taysom Hill is a great weapon for the Saints.

Having a multifaceted offensive weapon doesn’t tie up a roster spot with a player that is just sitting on the bench.

    Sly

The Saints have a super athletic Clip board holder…but he only makes league minimum, so not too much salary cap tied up
