Bigger Role Coming

September 24th, 2020

Pass-catcher too.

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians all but promised: fans will see more of running back Leonard Fournette. It just may just be a few weeks yet.

Last night appearing on “Late Hits” with co-hosts Bill Lekas and Bill Polian, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Arians raved about Fournette’s pass-catching abilities and said the running back has only been around two weeks. So the more he learns the offense, the more Arians said he will be in the mix in the gameplan.

Bill Polian: Yeah, [Leonard Fournette] is a force, short-yardage and goal-line, obviously.

Bucco Bruce Arians: Yeah, he is a heckuva pass catcher. I mean he has great hands. That first drive for the touchdown [in the second half Sunday to take a 21-0 lead, he ran a heckuva return route, caught it. I thought he scored. He got down to the one-foot line and then punched it in. As he learns the offense his role will expand.

And Fournette seems to be the kind of back that wears on defenses. The way Joe looks at it, the more Fournette plays, the more he softens up a defense. With his breakaway speed, Fournette can seal the deal just like he did against the Stinking Panthers housing a long run.

You can hear the excerpt of Arians from last night in the SiriusXM audio below.

Now that the Bucs have a legitimate running back, I would expect the running game to increase and improve exponentially. The pass may be in vogue, but a solid running game keeps the defenses guessing.

“BRUCE ARIANS DOING BRUCE ARIANS THINGS

Senile old man again thinks he is smarter than everyone in the room

Going to put Rojo in the 1st half and the run game will again be stagnant. 3rd and long for Brady. Rojo hands of stone cant help out Brady as a outlet reciever

With Fournette starting, the Bucs can blowout Denver. But with Almighty Bruce in charge this will be a 4th quarter nailbiter because our offense will start slow”

Kobe Faker. I agree 100%. Maybe after Fournette wears out the defense and helps the Bucs establish a big lead, Rojo can come in and mop up. Rojo might even look ok at that point in the game.
