Arians Talks “Really Weird” Experience, Mike Evans Issues & More

September 17th, 2020

Sunday was more than a rough day for our beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It also was a strange day for the head coach, who referred to the scene as “blasé.”

Speaking on Bucs Total Access, Arians said the piped in stadium noise at the Superdome “was so low you could actually talk across the field to the other team. It was no energy whatsoever. It was really weird.”

Well, if Arians expected a more juice-filled feel, perhaps his team did as well and it somehow was a distraction? That will remain a mystery.

Here are other takes from Arians’ broadcast session:

*There wasn’t residual soreness for Evans’ hamstring after a lot of Friday work, Arians said. Evans played “too many plays” against New Orleans, but he was fine afterwards. No lingering effects. Arians would have liked to see Evans take about a third-less snaps, he said.

*Arians says Bucs didn’t do a good enough job of moving Evans around and doing more with him. It led to not enough targets. The troubling thing is Arians said the same thing about Evans following the first Bucs-Saints game last year.

*Brady has helped Scotty Miller with his confidence. “I think confidence is the key,” Arians said.

*Arians reiterated that he loved him so RoJo versus the Saints. “He was very decisive; he played extremely well as far as the mental aspect. I wish we got a better ball to him on the screen. I think he probably would have scored. Tom was under a lot of duress on that screen play. But overall, I think Ro ran the ball hard. And we gotta do a better job blocking, especially on the perimeter.”

*The head coach is high on O.J. Howard and wants him “more involved.”

Howard can be a playmaker….He runs smooth, accelerates well, has good size to break tackles.

As for “targeting” Evans….I agree with moving him around but I prefer the QB distributing based on what they read the defense is giving them. If we start force feeding Evans, the turnovers will start. Targeting Evans requires time for the play to fully develop….that’s completely counter to how Brady prefers to operate. Brady likes quick strike guys like a Godwin or Miller. I could see Evans having a down year with yds but solid yr TDs. All around, I think Godwin will shine again.

Arians needs to call the plays

  3. SufferingSince76 Says:

The Bucs are supposed to have too many weapons for the opposing teams to cover. If that’s so, why aren’t they using them?

  4. chris L Says:

if he wanted all these things, why didnt it happen? he is the head coach. some baffling comments

  5. Cainishere Says:

You know, I smell something funny going on here. Correct me if I am wrong.
Dungy was fired and Gruden brought in to get us to the dance, which he did.
Could BA be walking into being replaced by a Super Bowl Coach? SPOOKY!!!
    GO BUCS!!!
I hate aiming for the fences too much. Dangerous for WR hamstrings.
We need a short game. Dink and Dunk wins games.
Hitting long passes should be a surprise for defenses not an expectation.

  6. unbelievable Says:

    Agreed Chris L.

BA – You are the damn coach, you are literally the one who controls those things.

And how did we use Godwin so little? He had that nice catch on Bradys first pass, and then was he even targeted again until the 4th quarter? WTF

  7. 813bucboi Says:

    can BA talk about CAR…..

    ON TO CAR!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  8. 813bucboi Says:

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  9. Pewter Power Says:

Arians seems to be watching the games on Sunday but not actually doing any coaching. All he does on game day is harass referees apparently. Do some damn coaching dude because you talk to much during the week and just seem like your full of excuses. Why not call out horrible special teams play like you did Brady grumpy old arse man.

  10. Will Says:

BL just can’t put together a solid game plan and this offense is predictable. With all these weapons I’m expecting a lot more variation in the plays. BA may want to stop shoving BL down our throats and take over play calling to show him how things should look with all these weapons.

    Lets go Bucs!

And fire the special teams coach!!

  11. The Coroner Says:

OJ Howard. Contract year. Playing harder. Bad sign for me.

  12. BucEmUp Says:

Rumblings of Brady not happy with coaching staff.I will bet money its with the playcalling and just like last season its going to take leftwhich 8 games to figure out how to have a balanced offense and do whats best for your players and not make your players do what you favor calling.

Dude sucks soooo bad he is in way over his head and its Arians fault for alowinh it to continue. Bruce should be calling the offense.Get off.your golf cart bruce and put down the scotch you are not.in retirement anymore

  13. james west Says:

i for one am getting tired of BA’s excuses, and same old same old, news flash after this dream of an off season, there is no damn excuses, get it done coach and do something about your damn left tackle, you know the guy on brady’s blind side

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We need more shorter passing to TEs, RBs……loved what I saw with Scotty Miller…..obviously, BA has delegated the offensive plans & plays to BL……playing Evans too much?……not moving him around?..

Looking for a very strong game against Carolina…..if we can stop McCaffery again, they are toast…

  15. Buc1987 Says:

Let’s go 1-1 so everyone and calm down for a week or so…

Uh-Oh!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like the “truth” is finally starting to dawn on the sheep, about ole stale biscuit!!!!!!!!! Even 813broccoli has done a complete 180!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sloppy coaching!!!!!!!! BS press conferences!!!!!!!! Where is the player development?????? Where is the ” we won’t call plays that put players in a bad position”?????

Meanwhile the local media and sheep rolled out the red carpet, and threw rose petals at his feet!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the same ole stale biscuit that hasn’t had a winning season since 2015!!!!!!!!!! And the local media were giggling like school girls asking bruce arrogance “What it’s like to be the coolest coach in the NFL”???????? The “real” fans know that the sheep and so-called fans are drunk and stupid, but what is the local media’s excuse!!!!!!!!!! I guess name notoriety and WWF like press conference are what they consider most important to them!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is the calls for “hold them accountable”?????????

Why are they impressed with a defense averaging 30 ppg????????????

When is the “win now coach” going to win??????????

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Cainishere Says:

When you risk it for a biscuit. You most of the time do not get a Biscuit.
Is the plan to keep getting these deep Pass Interference calls in our favor?
RoJo had a good game all things considering because the Saints played a lot of pass defense opening up that run game to opportunities. Well done there but those WR need shorter routes to protect against injuries putting everyone near one another could possibly confuse defenses more with the Buc’s hands and Brady’s accuracy coming into play could be in our favor.
    Just a thought.
    GO BUCS!!!

  19. Clean House Says:

    Hey Coach BS,

    If you are the coach,
How is it that Mike Evans should have played less plays? Are you in charge or not? What is it that you actually do? you want him moving around more? Why didn’t you incorporate that prior to game 1?

9 months not long enough for you?

    Do you do anything?

Tired of your slop excuse for football.

  20. Hodad Says:

Arians needs to start holding himself accountable. He sounds more like a media expert breaking down his teams short comings, instead of the guy who’s in charge of fixing things. Complained about ST’s, even tho he cut his ST’s capt. for has been McCoy. When we got Brady Arians said it’s up to us, his staff not to screw up. Mission so far not accomplished.

  21. StatGuy Says:

I’m about over this Leftwich experiment myself.

  22. Big Stinky Says:

If you want OJ more involved start calling plays stupid. Don’t know why you are even here other than the Glazers retirement plan. Just sit in your cart like you’re the Pope and avoid coaching. Let both of your DT’s jump offsides on back to back plays I think. Fourth and 2 on Vea was the really bad one. Going for 2 down by 11? WTF????? Definitely done watching the NFL when you and Brady are gone. Unless they get Aaron Rodgers and an offense that calls a play more than one time in a game. Wish SHAMELESS came back so I could quit now. Done with the BLM crap spilling over into sports too. Just do your job and shut the hell up. You’re not changing a DAMN thing!!!! Just more racism!!!

  23. 813bucboi Says:

    realist

    scotty miller, d.white, SMB, C.Davis, Wirfs, winfield…..

you wouldnt know player development if it slapped you in the face!!!!!!!

    its 1 game chump!!!!…pipe down!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

Can we please hurry up and win a game?! The misery of Bucs fans after just one game is as deflating as an AFC Championship game ball!
    …allegedly!

  25. Cainishere Says:

It isn’t that it’s just “One Game” It’s The horrific look upon Brady’s face that was most disturbing. His opinion was clear. The level of play from our team was practice squad quality. In NE, he didn’t have to deal with this level of play.
He would see it on his practice squad, not his starters.
It’s kind of like being top shelf ice cream and being dipped into poo.
It’s an eerie, nasty feeling I am sure.
New territory for Tom but it is okay he will fix the problem.
He’s on his retirement vacation remember?
    GO BUCS!!!!

  26. Darin Says:

East to be high on Howard now, he’s seen Gronk try to run. Cmon Coach tighten up that team. Tighten up the staff first. We dont wana hear many more Bucs beating Bucs talks.

  27. Lyle Williams Says:

Tom Brady doesn’t need a QB coach. Especially a loser like Brian Leftwich. He was hired to reel in the loser Winston. That didn’t work. Lose Leftwich and get another OL coach.
