JPP: Business Over Quarterback

August 17th, 2020

Joe loves the business of the NFL.

Fascinating stuff.

Lots of egos, angling, negotiating, misdirection, emotions, mind games, stats manipulation and more.

How much does winning matter to players, as compared to comfort and cash and coaches? It’s hard to ever really know.

As the free agency bell was about to ring in March, the Bucs didn’t have a starting quarterback. They weren’t willing to commit to Jameis Winston and the future of the position was unknown.

Jason Pierre-Paul, Ndamukong Suh and other Bucs were about to hit the market as free agents. The Bucs said they wanted those players to return but they didn’t have contracts.

Today marked the first day Pierre-Paul was available to media since (thankfully) he re-signed with the Bucs on a two-year contract for about $10 million per season.

Joe asked JPP if the Bucs’ QB situation was involved in his decision to return. “Were you asking them who the quarterback was going to be? Was that a factor for you at all?”

“Not necessarily,” JPP replied. “You know, I mean, I’m going to do my thing regardless who’s the quarterback or not. But I’m pretty sure they did the right thing and got a new quarterback.”

JPP re-signed with the Bucs before Tom Brady arrived and it was a bold decision by a player who clearly despises losing and would have had options on the free agent market. JPP has been around long enough to know it’s nearly impossible to win a title with a new quarterback.

Did he ask the team to tell him their plan at QB? Did they tell him?

Regardless, Joe’s just happy JPP was willing to move all-in before the Bucs did on Brady.

he probably was more concerned about the team’s plan for Shaq and Suh than for the QB. That front seven just played off of one another (and the secondary) so well by the end of the season

even JPP, the captin of the TEAM says,”But I’m pretty sure they did the right thing and got a new quarterback.”

The Bucs went from one of the most undependable qbs to a winner!…
So of course – “they did the right thing and got a new quarterback.”

Where are are the Winston jock sniffers?

Another Bucs leader saying it was right to move on from JW.

  11. JimbobBucsFan Says:

A certain percent of our fans have enjoyed bashing Jason Light in recent years. The criticism was justified in some cases no doubt.

I say hat off to JL and his staff for what what they have accomplished this year.

  12. Cobraboy Says:

More evidence Winston lost the team.

  13. Oneilbucs Says:

What he supposed to say it was a bad move . He has to go with who’s on the team . If Jamies was still here he would said keeping Jamies was the right move . Lol lol 😆🤣

JPP knew Tom was coming to Tampa BEFORE he signed. I found out TB12 was headed to Tampa days before he actually signed and it was announced by the media. How did I get my info? From JPP via text to a good friend of mine while he was in the bldg and set on signing his new 2-yr contract!
I was then asked to keep it quiet on who the source of that info was…

^^^Absolute scathing rebuke of the Joe/s. Seriously this site should fold up for the gross enabling of a player that set this franchise back 10 years and just so they could keep the FSU homer clicks. Awful awful website that I can’t stop lurking on hahahahahah
