GM Licht Talks “The Talk Of The Locker Room”

August 14th, 2020

Bucs GM Jason Licht. (No, this photo wasn’t taken after the 2017 season.)

General manager Jason Licht took off his mask and had plenty to say yesterday.

Licht virtually punched the Tom Brady arm naysayers in the gut during a chat with NBC Sports.

During an interview with Peter King, Licht explained that he and many Bucs coaches, scouts and personnel executives each evaluated Brady’s arm talent and strength before Tampa Bay signed him.

And consensus was achieved.

“We all came to the same conclusion – that maybe it’s not the same as it was 10 years ago, but it’s the same as it was five, six years ago,” Licht said of Brady’s arm strength. “So now, seeing him live here for the past week and a half for practice. The comments have been, we’ve all come to the same conclusion again.

“Whoever thought Tom Brady didn’t have a good enough arm is wrong. He’s got plenty.”

Add all that to the great Brady news pouring out of One Buc Palace. Not only has Brady changed practice, but he’s given everyone in the front office to undrafted rookies an extra jolt of confidence with his strong arm and precision passing. King noted the latter after watching Thursday’s practice.

“Brady looked rather frisky and he also looked like he was throwing bullets,” King said. “I just think the one thing that interested me that I was watching very much was his velocity. You know, he had a good fastball this morning at age 43.”

Licht replied, “That’s been kind of the talk of the locker room,” explaining that players have been buzzing that Brady still has his A-game.

Licht thinks Brady wants to prove to teammates “that he’s not an old man just trying to, you know, ride into the sunset. He really wants to win.”

“Now if only Gump wears that mask during the 2nd round in each draft”

    Kobe Faker

A rare funny take by Kobe!

GM’s don’t go into locker rooms & neither do the coaches. That’s the players area sanctuary. So who is still snitching and telling what’s going on in the locker room? The equipment manager. Hired by previous staff still telling what the players are doing and saying. The culture will never change under current support staff of snitches.

  6. Ndog Says:

Let’s see him get hit then let’s talk.

    Npuppy

7 other qbs got hit the same or more than jw

3 qbs got sacked more than jw with quite a few more hovering just below jw.

Jw sacked 47 times. Brady 27 times.

Both jw and Brady had the same average pocket time at 2.5 seconds

Jw was hurried 60 times while Brady was hurried 55 times. Again, pretty much the same.

Jw took 54 hits while Brady took 37 (better pocket awareness)

Brady with his 37 hits but him right in the middle of the pack on qb hits. Jw ranks 3rd most.

I do believe Brady will get hit a little more than he is used to but I also think he’ll make the quicker read, have better pocket awareness, and get the ball out sooner than jw ever did.

There Npuppy, you asked for an intelligent answer. Was this good enough for you or are you going to say no since it perhaps goes against your way of thinking?

ndog .. don’t you still have your season tkt for this year ?? Winston was given 5 yrs here and he may become a good qb but not here . Be glad the bucs are the talk of the nfl and get excited for the season .

  10. vic robertson Says:

damn damn damn…the naysayers vs the yaysayers. weve waitied a long ass time for this relevance. the bucs are now! the naysayers wanna crown the aints, however week 1 will show all of them what we have cooking in the bay. he is not done-that guy has more chips on his shoulder than a bag of cheetos- everyone stays healthy-the ceiling is 5,000, and tb12 will burn everyone of em as he is for 20

  11. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog you’re a clown I’ve seen Brady take some hard hits last year. Any player can get injured on any given play. What if winston got hurt trying to tackle 1 of the many picks he’s thrown sit down.

  12. Buczilla Says:

Good article, Brady will be fine.

  13. Danny C Says:

This arm thing is getting old, no pun intended. Brees has never had a strong arm, but he seems to be doing great without it. Tom Brady will be fine. Not worried at all about his arm. The only thing I worry about is his understanding of the playbook and what we are trying to do as an offense. Arians’ offense is very different than McDaniels’ offense. The whole arm strength is total BS!

Dude, you are a loser of the worst kind.

BTW when people say Jameis will never be elite let’s be clear here. If he continues to be a starting QB in the NFL, which should be a no brainier, he is on pace to have HOF#s. I know people are going to laugh and make some snarky comments but that is a fact.

    🤣🤣🤣

    lets be clear!!!

    JW aint a starter….which after throwing 30INTs is a no brainier….HOFer?..lol…FORGET ABOUT IT!!!!!…..

and YES!!!!…we’re all still laughing at you!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  17. AJ Says:

Oh if Peter King says he can still throw, then now I can rest easy!

  18. Bucsgotachance..todonothing Says:

Ndog just got owned… It’s safe to say he has a new master

  19. Clean House Says:

Better put that old man on a pitch count…

His longest pass of the year was in game one vs. Pittsburgh.
His last pass of the year and most current throw was a pick 6

  20. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

Pretty sure jameis’s first AND last throws as a bucs were pick 6s… Correct me if I’m wrong. So not quite sure what you’re getting at Clean House…

  21. Bucsgotachance..todonothing Says:

Clean house.. Clean them drawers boy

  22. Oneilbucs Says:

To me this fan base sucks just because some people have a different opinion about the team doesn’t mean nothing . I think we should have kept Jamies as well but that’s my opinion and I still believe that if Jamies gets a chance he will be a starting quarterback for the next ten years . I know yall hope the guy fail because it will be another hall of famer that we miss. But let me tell all yall 1 fact that if Brady throws the ball 45 times a game we ain’t gonna win this year . The reason why we can’t develope a quarterback is because we ask them to throw 45 to 50 times a game and not expect them to throw interceptions is just crazy . We didn’t give Jamies a running game wich every quarterback needs because it takes some of the pressure off them . Now some quarterbacks will get that pass and some don’t . But every body don’t have to agree we are all bucs fan and I think we all want the best for the team . Ain’t no body following a team that’s been bad the pass 12 years and not be a fan .
