“Defense Made The Plays All Day”

August 30th, 2020

Strong outing.

Today, Bucco Bruce Arians wasn’t all too pleased with how his offense played.

Arians was, however, quite happy with how his defense played.

Arians noted with the exception of a couple of plays, he thought the Bucs defense played just fine in the scrimmage Friday at the Den of Depression. Sunday, the defense kicked it up a notch.

Previously nearly untouchable through the summer park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady, was one-upped by the Bucs secondary periodically. By Joe’s count today, Brady had seven passes broken up by defensive backs (two each by D’Cota Dixon and Jordan Whitehead) and a pick each by Jamel Dean and Whitehead.

There should have been two more picks of Brady. The 43-year old signalcaller was aiming for Scotty Miller in the far right corner of the end zone and Sean Murphy-Bunting had excellent position and the pass hit SMB right in the gut but he couldn’t hold it.

On another breakup, Lavonte David was guarding O.J. Howard along the right sideline and David somehow dropped what looked like a sure pick-six as he jumped in front of Howard for position.

Not all the Bucs thought David made a play. After the play, Howard did the Keyshawn Johnson throw-a-flag routine with his right hand pumping up and down.

“[The] defense made the plays all day,” Arians said. “I don’t know if the offense made any plays. [They] might have been reading their press clippings that they’re so good, because they didn’t show up today.”

It wasn’t just defending passes where the secondary stood out. They also had a couple of coverage sacks, one in goal-line defense. Jason Pierre-Paul, after two virtual sacks Sunday, had another today. He’s ready to rock.

Devin White also added a fumble recovery.

“Overall, I was really, really pleased with the way they showed up today,” Arians said.

After getting shown up a few times the past three weeks, it was good that in the final open-to-media practice of the 2020 training camp/preseason, the Bucs defense demonstrated they can play too.

I have a sick feeling this will be the norm for the Buc’s offense in 2020.

Good news ref the D… Maybe we got sumphin here!

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Was Carlton Davis playing?

  4. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Jeff, why the hell would you say that. The Bucs were the third best offense last year, and they upgraded at QB and TE. Maybe the defense is just that good.

  5. Joe Says:

Nobody was playing. First game is in two weeks. 🙂

Wasn’t practicing today but was jogging on a side field wearing sweatpants.

  6. Roy T. Buford Says:

Arguably, the Bucs O has improved at QB, TE, OL, and RB…and maybe WR. Well, pretty much all over. At least on paper. We’ll see.

AFTER ALL OF CAMP THE D HAS LEARNED TENDENCIES OF THE OFFENSE AND HAVE MADE ADJUSTMENTS GOOD FOR THEM, I THINK OUR TEAM OFFENSE WILL BE MORE THAN ADEQUATE AND OUR DEFENSE WILL HOLD THEIR OWN, IF NOT BEST MANY OF THEIR OPPONENTS THIS SEASON, I EXPECT POST SEASON PLAY, AND I AM SURE MANY OTHERS DO AS WELL

  8. All lives matter Says:

james west made the most responsible comment that should have been said. When a defense is playing against an offense on a daily basis it’s pretty much a prerequisite that the defense will understand offensive tendencies and read/react accordingly. I would be more alarmed if I constantly read that our offense was running roughshod all over our defense daily. Opposing teams don’t have the same luxury.

  9. PSL Bob Says:

Just wait till both sides show up in the same game in two weeks!

  10. Oneilbucs Says:

Come on now I don’t want to hear about the defense playing well against the offense because they been practicing against each other all summer excuse . Because if it was Jamies yall will be ripping him . Now that it’s Brady yall want to make excuses for him no treat Brady the same way because I’m going to . No excuses because all I heard was Brady is balling and Jamies couldn’t do this or that and I heard look at those passes Jamies couldn’t throw like that now Brady is struggling and yall want to make excuses . I’m ready for the season to start . No excuses this year …. go bucs ….

This might be one of the best Defences the buc have ever had

    Awesome honesty there.

  13. BigMacAttack Says:

I don’t know. I think this offense is going cook. I think this defense can be top 2 or 3. These guys have had some time now with Todd Bowles and they’re dialed in. Everyone has talked about this offense and rightfully so, but this defense can be the best since they win the Super Bowl. All provided if they stay somewhat healthy. Safety was the one weakness which now may end up as a huge strength. We will see but if they can hold the Saints to under 20 points, the rest of their opponents are in trouble. 😂

really joe …. my comments were fair and balanced … all life is precious … and thank God for cameras and the rule of law …. all situations will be tried in a court room not in the Media…. you wont have a website if football cannibalises itself due to a lack of personal accountablity on both sides of the issue … dont be a coward Joe

Thank you for managing your system responsibly. I personally apologize for contributing to the noise.

I did have an idea that you may appreciate.

Perhaps create a “dump’ string where you can transfer all of the vitriolic chatter and they can banter, argue, educate, to their hearts content without bothering the actual fans on the site.

I’m not saying it’s a good idea, just a possible option

MCOJ seems to have mostly become that, since that is where non-football news is aggregated. Unfortunately, they seem to be the threads that trigger outside attention from the corporate technocrats who’s motto used to be, “Do No Evil.” Wonder why that was changed…
