Bruce Arians: “Guys Hold Grudges”

Bruce Arians sees a potential problem

Team chemistry is critical at One Buc Palace, where the power players believe they have elite leadership in place and an A+ coaching staff that’s as big as it is beautiful.

But that chemistry is in a fragile place right now.

Bucco Bruce Arians explained on CBS Sports Radio this week.

With no preseason games or scrimmages allowed this year, the subject of hitting each other in training camp came up and Arians dropped an intriguing nugget about how real football with teammates can be counterproductive.

“It’s gotten out of hand a few times. You know, we don’t play the Bucs on our schedule. And you can divide a team real fast when you get into that offensive-defensive stuff, Arians said.

“Hitting yourself is the worst thing in football. You get tired of it. Guys hold grudges.”

Arians said managing this virus-season dynamic is something he’s monitoring closely. On Friday, he planned to show the team an example of a shot taken in practice that should be reserved for opponents — and there were more than just one.

Another issue, Arians said, is young players hungry to prove themselves but missing the chance because of cancelled scrimmages and preseason games.

“It’s very, very hard for young players this year and you have to watch them because they’re going to hit people they’re not supposed to be hitting, just to try to get on film,” Arians said. “Get on film for the wrong reasons. It’s like back in the day; pick the biggest guy and start a fight, which is taboo now.”

They will get over it after the first series in NO. A little twist on Walt Kelly’s take: They will remind themselves who the “enemy” is. “They have met them, and it is not us.’
