Arians Lauds Newcomer Veteran A.Q. Shipley

August 26th, 2020

The signing isn’t official yet, but Bucco Bruce Arians was talking today like it is.

Adam Schefter broke news a couple of days ago claiming that veteran center A.Q. Shipley was on his way to Tampa Bay to reunite with Arians. The 34-year-old center, who has played a little guard, played for Arians in Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Arizona.

This morning, Joe asked Arians about the imminent Shipley signing.

“Q is a hell of a player, a hell of a leader,” Arians said. “He’ll give us great veteran depth on our offensive line, allows us to do some things in case of injury in case of COVID and just a guy I trust with the utmost.”

No, Joe doesn’t think Ryan Jensen will now be in competition with the center who started 16 games for Arizona last season. For Joe, this signing is just one more all-in move.

Screw developing a young center (keep in mind veteran Joe Haeg can play center), the Bucs are doing everything they can to be playoff-ready.

I was catching He!! last night on an NFCW site about this signing.
Zona fans were ragging me about his short arms
All I could think of was that movie ” Walking with the Dinosaurs”
“” He has LITTTLE BITTY arms”

Beside Brady, Gronk, McCoy, this is the best offseason pickup. I rate him just above Kyle Love’s signing.

This is a great pickup we need the depth

  4. Sarasota Garey Says:

    Right guard maybe.

  5. Rayjay1122 Says:

He reminds me of a corn fed Trent Dilfer.

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The NFL really needs to increase the opening day rosters by 10-15 players.

  7. BucEmUp Says:

    good signing

  8. Clean House Says:

I agree with Bonzai on the rosters

  9. PSL Bob Says:

Don’t like the fact that the Bucs are becoming a Cardinals-Patriots love child, but like the depth this gives us, particularly considering the unknowns Covid might bring to the game.

Dude looks like Jeremy Trueblood and Trent Dilfer’s love child.

If you watch the 2105 Cardinals you will see that BA used him as an extra lineman in goal line and short yardage as well as a full back in the back field for blocking.

You will also see that BA used 2-3 TE sets through out the season. At least against the Bears and 49ers repeatedly. I would venture to say this is more like what we will see this year as well with TB12. I also think you will see less blitzing as many think. Since there really isn’t a defense that TB12 hasn’t seen and will know where to go with the hot read faster than JW did. (20 years experience will do that) Which will mean less hits on Brady.

I feel very comfortable with Haeg and Shipley being the next men up. We got 6 lineman with pro experience that have started and a first round draft choice at RT. That sounds like a pretty deep unit to me.

  13. Sarasota Garey Says:

So what do we have like 20 dollars worth of cap space left.

  14. ClwJB Says:

Have to believe a veteran corner is on the way to the 4th CB spot – they have now signed vet depth at TE, DL, OL, RB – they already have Minter at LB as the super sub – they have Adams at S for that role – there is only one spot left – CB – no more WR needed

    Just a matter of time

  15. unbelievable Says:

    Lol rayjay spot on

  16. teacherman777 Says:

    Cappa aint cutting it.

    Jensen may move to guard.

  17. Anonymous Says:

    Sign a DE for depth.

The OL already had vets, it was a depth/covid signing.

  18. Bucsfan951 Says:

Bucs looking for a veteran cb when final cuts come?…

    I guess we’ll see

  19. Rick Says:

@ Sarasota Garey, $20 in cap space 😁. Actually we should be wondering if Jason was somehow able to negotiate a deal with Roger to borrow against next year’s cap? 😳 just a little humor, I know that would never happen.

Q aka A.Q. Shipley would love that comment!!!

I love the signing, not just for the player, but the “interesting character” behind it. Loved him on the Pat McAfee Show. Would be curious what one of the Joe’s were able to catch about Q on All or Nothing: A Season with the Arizona Cardinals.

  21. Hodad Says:

We have some young guys that we can develop on the practice squad like Shackleford. This is not the season to have some rook step in if Jensen should go down. Besides, it can only help our young guys develop having a vet like Shipley on the team.

teacherman777 says, “Cappa aint cutting it. Jensen may move to guard.”

BA already said Shipley is a backup center. He doesn’t want an inexperience center hiking the ball to Brady if something happens to Jensen. BA also said Cappa did a great job down the last stretch of last season, even when he had a broken hand. There will be no shuffling with the line from last season except for Tristan Wirf playing RT.
