Arians Hypes Rookie

August 24th, 2020

Starter in three weeks?

It’s is hard to believe with this weirder than weird 2020, but the Bucs will travel to New Orleans to face the Saints in less than three weeks. That’s right.

And the way Bucs coach Bruce Arians is talking, it seems Arians and defensive coordinator Todd Bowles are going to have a rough time not starting rookie Antoine Winfield at safety.

The second-round draft pick, if you listen to Arians, is quickly absorbing everything the Bucs are throwing at him.

“He just makes plays every day,” Arians said yesterday. “[There is] a lot of volume of information passed to him – he handles it really well. He executes the defense, he has great instincts. You can’t stay out of practice very long [or] you’re going to get beat out by him.”

This is great to learn. Winfield sure was a baller at Minnesota. The Bucs could sure use a guy in the secondary that is always around the ball.

Now yesterday was the first practice Joe witnessed that the Bucs’ pass defense wasn’t getting the job done. Park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady was simply having his way.

Joe senses from the way Arians spoke, that was mostly because of Brady and not subpar play by the defense.

A few passes were completed where defenders were all over receivers and Brady put the ball in a spot where it was either going to be caught or incomplete, but not picked.

Joe is actually enjoying watching a complete master of his craft like Brady, even at 43, getting warmed up. So Joe isn’t going to bag on the pass defense. We’re talking about an all-time great throwing with unreal precision (and no chance of getting hit).

That’s tough to defend even if your name is Darrelle Revis.

I mean I remember last year when the former QB was always getting Picked off multiple times by this same pass defense. They were all rookies then too.

  2. Clean House Says:

Well hopefully the pass D doesn’t tank the season

    Also you fools
May not have realized it by now, but Arians is ALL hype. Every word out of his mouth is total BS

  3. Clean House Says:

How many scrubs has he hyped???

  4. CPN Says:

The D got better over the course of last season, Clean House.

This team should be better, especially now that there isn’t a QB who will throw 5 picks a game and gas the defense.

It does not hurt that he is going against brady everday. School starts in a few weeks with Professor Brees. So we shall see what the deal is with this kid off the bat. Thank God the defensive backfield finally started coming to life after years of hibernation. Just ask Deshaun Watson. Hopefully A Winfield stays healthy, it looks like a bright future. Again we shall see. Go Bucs!!!

    Clean house

One comes to mind and his initials are JW… care to take any guesses?

  7. 941bucsfan Says:

I dont give the defense a pass just because they are going against brady, because if brady can shred them in practice, matty ice, brees, and mahomes are all going to do the same thing.

  8. Clean House Says:

Ok we shall see- my moneys on Drew Brees shredding the secondary

    Doesn’t mean I’m not a Bucs fan-

I just remember what a defense looks like from our super bowl build up-

This is not it- not close- it’s mostly smoke and mirrors, you can only blitz and disguise so many times. Secondary is too young.

  9. Clean House Says:

Ok Bucs fan 951- let’s say Jameis is included on this list- proves my point, no?

  10. Clean House Says:

I’m wishing Winfield the best- hope he’s great- Arians word and talent eval mean zero to me. He’s a 1-2 playoff record blowhard

  11. Howard Cosell Says:

    but….but……..stale biscuits!!…….and Jameis got shafted!!!……I’m a Bucs fan…….but….but……..WWWAAHHHH!!!!

Earl thomas should be picked up now… Not late not if the market is cold…now..he will bring in the leadership we need..let the rest of the safetys fight for a starting job…
Time to cook the books give him 12mil bring him in have him teach the younger guys..
If we don’t pick him up i will be extremely upset if the 2ndary under oreforms and question are gm

  13. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Earl Thomas is garbage compared to what he used to be before two broken legs. Plus he’s kind of a cancer in the locker room. No way the Bucs should consider him.

  14. lambchop Says:

    @Bucsgotachance,

Thomas is a cancer. His teammates hate him wherever he goes. He freelances too much, doesn’t follow a team-first defensive mind, and he mouths off and gets owned my Derrick Henry. No thanks. He already had Swaggy, Aquib Talib, Brent Grimes. He is a cancer to any team. And he’s too arrogant to come cheap. He wants to be a Cowgirl. Let them deal with the ensuing fiasco. Just do a little research for goodness sakes before getting a boner for a has been.

    Clean House,

Since 1978- in the NFL- the team that won the turnover margin for the game, won 70% of the time.

In 2019, the Bucs were 5th in takeaways, but -13 overall because of Jameis 33 TDs: 35 Turnovers.

More turnovers than touchdowns will never, ever be considered prolific or good. 5k yards passing is all but diminished because of the inefficiency with protecting the football.

This sentiment was further emphasized when 32 NFL teams passed on him as a starter or #2.

I wish Jameis nothing but the best, but his time in Tampa was done.

    Let’s go Bucs!

Can you grow up without the stupid talk or are you just a hater?

Clean House, very little that you have written would lead anyone to believe you are a Bucs fan.

    Yep! You’re totally right!

  19. Bucsfanman Says:

Man, I guess there’s nothing Arians can do for some of you. He walks and talks like every other coach out there I’ve ever see. Except, there are two differences from previous regimes:
    1) The culture is changing.
    2) Player development is occurring.

I think our defense is going to surprise people. We’ll take our lumps, sure. At least we won’t have to play two teams on Sundays. That in itself will aid the young defense.

  20. Issac haggins Says:

Edwards is no longer the starter ,,,, Period !!

  21. Jmarkbuc Says:

I can think of one scrub BA hyped… fo sho…check yo sheet.

    ………………

Very little of anything he has Ever written would lead anyone to believe he knows anything about football

  23. Brandon Says:

That little boy Clean House is just begging for attention. Perhaps you’ve been locked away hiding from the Rona too long. Whatever it is it has rotted your brain. STFU for a bit.
