“I feel like I’m dominating.”
There’s a new level of intensity among Buccaneers defensive linemen this year. The evidence is in their offseason commitment.
Playing defensive tackle in every Bucs game last season was Rakeem Nuñez-Roches (pictured above). He notched nine combined tackles in 26 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. The 27-year-old said today that he was as low as 292 pounds but now plays between 315 to 320 pounds after an offseason of challenging his body.
This stands out to Joe especially after hearing DE Will Gholston talk about his commitment to keeping his weight over 300 pounds this offseason so he can be there all year. (See new-look Gholston below.)
That’s a lot of beef — healthy weight — added to what already was/is the NFL’s No. 1 run defense.
Joe’s impressed. Bucco Bruce Arians’ regime really motivated these guys, or maybe they realize they’re in contract season.
Regardless, Nuñez-Roches was got a most improved nod from defensive coordinator Todd Bowles recently, and Arians and his position coach have lauded him.
“I feel a night-and-day difference from last year. I feel comfortable. I feel like I’m dominating,” Nuñez-Roches said.
Gone is injury-prone Beau Allen to the Patriots and up steps Nuñez-Roches. Joe thinks Gholston and Nuñez-Roches could represent some hidden improvement in the front-7.

The motivating factor has more to do with getting rid of the phony leader She-mc93 then what the ole stale biscuit is doing by just yelling curse words and sloppy coaching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bad GM’s cannot anoint leaders because they were drafted high!!!!!!!!!!!! Shame on the local media that kept telling the “real” fans that we “better be careful what we ask for” and how “sorry the fans will be when She-mc93 is gone”!!!!!!!!!!!!! While last season was still a losing season, at least there was not music and dance party in the locker room after all those losses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Somehow the DLine went from no depth to pretty good depth with beefed up Nuñez-Roches and Kyle Love. Nelson and O’Connor are having a great camp and may make a big leap this year.

Kord- Watch the presser by BA today. Auman ask him about the DT position camp battle between Potoa‘e, K. Davis and O’Conner. BA said K. Davis and O’Conner were looking really good. said Davis was run stuffing and rushing Qb well and said O’Conner has separated him self from others.
