“Tom Has Little Things That He Likes”

Scotty Miller talks Tom Brady

Yes, Tom Brady has made it clear to teammates that his preferences will matter.

Is Brady playing student and learning the Bucs playbook the way Joe attacks Big Storm beers on hot days? Yes. But he’s also letting receivers know what he likes on the practice field.

Second-year receiver Scotty Miller talked to JoeBucsFan.com last week and one question to him was about Brady adjusting to the Bucs offense during players-only sessions in Tampa — and whether that’s being balanced with Brady coaching up players and them adjusting to his desires.

“I think it’s been a little bit of both, honestly,” Miller replied.

“Tom, obviously, has run like every offense you can possibly run, run every play you could possibly run in his 20 [years] in the league. So Tom will do a great job coming in and learning. It’ll be no problem for him. And then Tom has little things that he likes. So I think it’ll be a healthy mixture of both. I think with Tom’s knowledge and our coaching staff’s knowledge, we’re going to be put in a great situation to be successful.”

It was great to hear Miller upbeat, and to hear him speak of Brady’s influence. Joe has to think Coach (GM?) Brady will have even greater influence than expected this season given the absence of spring practices and possibly a shortened training camp.

As for the great expectations placed on the Bucs, Miller said the team is blocking them out and his mindset is to put in the work and whatever happens will happen.

Is Brady trying to typecast Miller, pushing him to watch film of his former Patriots receivers?

“Not too much,” Miller said. “A lot of guys are comparing me to [Julian] Edelman, [Wes] Welker, all those kinds of dudes. But I’m a little bit different than those type of guys. Those guys play more in the slot; I play  a little more outside. So I want to definitely play like those guys, but also have a little twist on it. I’m my own player, you know. I’m a different kind of guy. He hasn’t really said anything specific like that. You know, he’s just giving me tips on my game and I’m just going to try and learn from it.”

Scotty’s role is to take the ball deep and take the top off the defense, a la Randy Moss

Has Tom ever had this many options to pass to, all with their own specific skill sets?
I’m thinking it’s going to be like a rich kids Christmas morning, more toys than he knows what to do with.
Hopefully, play by play, in the moment, he doesn’t have too much difficulty choosing.

I am trying not too get to excited about this season. I can see it now, finally we have a legit roster, only to be ruined by this Chinese Covid-19 virus. No one likes to admit it, but chances are the NFL suspends the season till next year. It might be 4 games into the season or 2/3 into it, but it’s most likely to be suspended or cancelled when this second wave hits us.

Remember you heard it here first (if there is a season): Because of all of the avaiable passing weapons, ROJO will have a monster year! I still believ in the dude!

  5. Dewey Selmon Says:

Jaymiss, I agree, I think RoJo blows up this year. I also think Brady will audible to something he likes when Lefty calls something he doesn’t like.

  6. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Agreed Dewey – GOAT can do dat!..afterall, he’s the GOAT! Albiet, a soon to be 43 year old GOAT.

I wondered why the staff didn’t get the ball to Miller in space last season. Dude has speed and is shifty. IMO Miller is too short to only use him as a deep threat. Get Scotty the ball in space and make someone miss.

I liked what I saw ate the end of last season about Scotty M……Also with Watson, let´s hope this tendency continues with TB 12…….

  9. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

They ran at least one jet sweep with him as I recall. Mostly he was just injured.

Because Miller is under 6 ft tall. It’s near impossible for Jameis to hit WRs under 6 feet tall.

As a Brady fan I think that Brady knows how fortunate he is to be playing with these weapons in tampa. He had bums last year and I wanted him to leave patriots. As a fan I still cant believe all the weapons tampa has.

Finally, an article with no mention of our running game or “America’s QB”……I’m impressed.

If somehow, someway Brady makes Scotty Miller a star….then LOOK OUT!!!

    And, I agree….ROJO will rule….

  13. John Says:

Agreed, not a mention from Joe about: ” America’s quarterback, pro bowler, Jamis Winston…” Maybe Joe has finally realized that a majority of this sites followers don’t have a man crush on the dude? You guys obviously love hyperbole and don’t read everything here if you’re blowing that noise. –Joe
It would be awesome if we could simply wash our hands of ” America’s quarterback, ect , ect ” and stop elevating the dude. In college the knock on him was “poor decision making”…. The bucs thought they could educate him to play smarter; Jamis proved to be un-teachable in the area of “decision making” (ie. Crab claws, sexual assault on an Uber driver, and so much more). America’s Q.B. bla bla, bla is no longer with the bucs ( thank God ), so can’t we move on – like moving forward after being in a bad relationship………..

  14. Craig Says:

If the NFL can get it right, this might be a remake of the Greatest Show on Turf.

There will be delays and crosses. The only person on the field who will know where all the receivers are, or are going, will be Tom Brady.

You thought his 28 point recovery in the Stupor Bowl was something? Wait until you see this.

The Chinese Covid 19? Dude, it’s everybody’s virus. Fox news isn’t the only network you know.

    ……………

Never thought of it that way but very True!

I read every article & most every post……

I guess I need to put the (sarcasm) disclaimer up….and no… not every article has Jameis references or running back woes……but they are more than other subjects…..

  18. Buccfan37 Says:

Look at that little Scotty Miller go!

  19. Chip Chipperson Says:

Tampabuscsbro and SB…Adam Humphries was under 6 feet

bojim…the virus originated from China. (don’t be so simple. please see the Asian flu of 58, the Hong Kong flu of 68, MERS Middle East Respiratory Syndrome 2012 etc….see a pattern? not p.c. enough for you?)

  20. Eddie Says:

Hey if Brady still has gas in the tank, it’s gonna be a great offense to watch. Buc’s are ready for a breakout year.
