Some rumors simply won’t die, so let’s give this one a 4-star funeral.

That’s one star for every crazy thing Antonio Brown has done in the past few years. Buc fans figured this nutty speculation about Brown joining Tom Brady in Tampa was put to rest earlier in the offseason when Bruce Arians said it wasn’t happening.

Pass

Arians didn’t just throw cold water on the rumor — he drowned it beneath a glacier.

That should have ended this nonsense, but you can’t keep a good sound byte down. Some media pundits spent a few days this week trying to resurrect the notion that Brown and the Bucs are about to enter into holy football matrimony.

Holy smokes.

Have these people lost their minds? Arians and Jason Licht keep reminding us that the Tampa Bay locker room is tight and filled with brotherly love. Brown may have the statistical credentials for a bust in Canton, but he also has the capability of unraveling a franchise from within.

Arians speaks from experience. He was Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator during Brown’s first two pro seasons, so he is familiar with Brown’s penchant for wearing out coaches and teammates with a self-centered approach.

Nothing has changed. If anything, it’s gotten worse. Compared to Brown, Terrell Owens is Mr. Congeniality.

Q Card

One year after becoming the highest-paid wide receiver in the league, Brown quit on the Steelers late in the 2018 season. “Quit” is the worst 4-letter word in professional sports. His act quickly grew thin with the Raiders and Patriots in 2019.

Buc fans are desperate for a winner, and that’s understandable. But desperation and logical thinking don’t always coincide. Brown’s skills on the football field are beyond question, but the notion that his presence would make the Bucs a more successful club is simply naive.

The strength of this football team isn’t difficult to identify: Brady already boasts the best group of targets in the NFL, led by 1,000-yard receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Factor in Rob Gronkowski, O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate and there aren’t enough footballs to go around … even without Brown.

And let’s not forget Brown’s extensive list of legal issues.

He’s on a 2-year probation for pleading no contest to burglary and battery charges in connection with a moving company altercation in Florida six months ago. That’s in addition to more serious allegations he has been dealing with.

Wrong Lane

Let it go, Tommy, writes Ira Kaufman.

Still, there are Buc fans out there who can’t stop thinking about Brown’s knack for turning 12-yard slants into 70-yard touchdowns. He’s a load to handle after the catch, one of the few parts of the job that Evans struggles with.

Barring an unlikely change of heart from Arians, the Bucs should return to their former defensive philosophy and line up 12 yards away from Brown. Brady needs to stay in his lane on this one and accept management’s decision.

And should the Glazers ever become bedazzled by Brown’s production, shame on them. Leave this call up to the football decision-makers, who have already determined Brown isn’t worth the trouble.

Brown, who turns 32 on July 10, is waiting for a call that may never come. He has been his own worst enemy, testing the patience of Mike Tomlin for nine seasons until the NFL’s most stable franchise could no longer stomach Brown’s unstable personality.

The next time an NFL talking head suggests Brown would be a perfect fit in Tampa, change the channel.

That’s crazy talk, the very definition of fake news.

  8. BucsSuperBowlChamps2020 Says:

I would personally love to get AB I understand the risks of getting him with his issues but I do also believe he’s begging to get in the league and with the leadership we now have in place I think our locker room would keep him in check. But if he’s that big of a risk I agree that Josh Gordon could be a good guy to try to scoop up.

  9. ZZbuc Says:

    Perfcet Mr Ira!!! Spot in…….
This are agents pushing threw the media…..This is older than prostitution…..

  10. Sick of the lies Says:

I agree! Let’s STOP with the fake Buc news! Like the purveyor of this article being a Bucs fan. We all know his loyalty lies with another team.

  11. Herbiebuc Says:

Ease up on ab mr Sage sir ! Lets be clear ab can distract a locker room but if im not mistaken patroits took a chance on him last year and if allegations weren’t brought up (something that happened 2 years ago)he probably still would be a patriot today tom brady as well ! so if Mr Brady feels comfortable with ab joining the bucs we should trust his 6 rings wisdom and do it ! If we win the super bowl this year it wouldn’t be a regular sb win with everything going on in the world today plus being the first to do it at home i cant imagine how much press that will warrant we need this and we definitely cant afford the luxury of passing on a guaranteed spot. Lets be very clear if ab can change just for one season no defense can stop us in a 12 man set

  12. Herbiebuc Says:

el buco im kinda with yu

  13. Jean Lafitte Says:

It’s the same darn people trying to resurrect Kaepernick’s career.

  14. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Antonio Brown is worse off the field than Jay Miss. We don’t need him!
Realist, keep herding the sheep!!!!!!!!!! I saw a few outside the pen and you’re responsible for them!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Howard Cosell Says:

    Sign Brown!
    Cut Evans and Godwin!
    Promote Realisto to Head Coach!!!!!

    ^Brilliant master plan!!!!!!!

  16. Howard Cosell Says:

    Realisto,
If we have yet ANOTHER regime change under the soccer brats then I would hope the “true” fans would be outraged and boycott the team.

(LOL I know you’re a sock-puppet troll, but when you put a word in quotes it means you don’t really mean it, or you’re quoting someone else and not giving your opinion)

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Trolls only come back because you feed them.

As to Brown, if Evans or Godwin go down he might have been a mid season option, except the he’ll be suspended the whole season.

  18. Buczilla Says:

    Great article, I agree.

  19. Steve Says:

It all happened after that hit cute in front of our faces yet beat up the man

  20. Mark Says:

July 10th? Wouldn’t that make him a cancer?

  21. stpetebucsfan Says:

It is the one spot on our team where we actually have star depth already!

This is Covid news…nothing going on so we get stupid reports like this or ones obsessing on Brady and teammates tossing the ball in the open air while just miles away in Ybor young people were hanging all over each other. And some probably even exchanged saliva in the night. They’re young and indestructible but rather than but them lets focus on a dozen more famous guys.

  22. Hodad Says:

Take a pressure pill Ira. Get use to it, with TB we’re now headline news, not fake news. Drones fly over his work outs, and the country weighs in. As long as the icon TB is Buc QB, speculation, and rumor will be the new norm for us small town folk. Being talked about incorrectly is going to happen. It’s better then not being talked about at all.

  23. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

Brown like Realisto are a waste of time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I don’t think our “friend” and so-called Buccaneer fan is capable of judging football coaches at all.

I am surprised how many other people continually respond to trolls here at this site. It is beyond my ken. All you do is encourage them.

I thought much of what the Sage said reflected wisdom. I don’t necessarily have to agree with him to feel that way.
