One-Year Window

July 25th, 2020

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

What Joe sort of feared would happen likely will. And it is not good news for Bucs fans.

Just a couple of months ago when the Bucs signed park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring quarterback Tom Brady to a two-year deal, all seemed right with the world.

The NFL never saw a salary cap go down. Revenues continued to pile in year after year with an endless supply of loot. It seemed the Bucs might just keep their entire team intact until Brady’s two-year contract ran out.

Then “The Sickness” came and wreaked havoc on our nation. It became so bad that for the first time (outside of a labor-disrupted year) it appeared the NFL salary cap would decrease.

And it likely will. In the agreement the NFL struck Friday with the NFLPA to play this year, each side agreed to a cap drop of about $23 million next year that locks in a $175 million salary cap for 2021 unless revenues rise this season.

So what looked like a two-year window for the Bucs to win with Brady now appears to be a one-year window.

Spotrac.com, which is pretty reliable, has the Bucs currently under the 2020 cap of $198 million by just $2.7 million. The salary cap tracker OverTheCap.com has the Bucs with $4.6 million of cap space.

By next spring, the Bucs have to shave somewhere in the neighborhood of $17-20 million off the books.

Here are some players that could be affected and their salaries.

Shaq Barrett: $15.8 million on the franchise tag. The Bucs could tag him again for 2021. If the Bucs sign Barrett to a long-term deal, the Bucs could save a couple of million a year, in theory.

Cam Brate: His $4.25 million salary bumps up to $6.5 million next season (non-guaranteed).

Lavonte David: He is in the final year of his contract and scheduled to make $10 million. Keep in mind David will be 31 next season. There are not many interior linebackers in their 10th season getting paid big bucks. Joe would absolutely hate it to see David go but as Bill Walsh used to say, better a player leave too early than too late. The Bucs are pretty darn good across the board at linebacker.

Will Gholston: His contract expires after the 2021 season, $4.7 million this year and $5.5 million next season, none of which is guaranteed.

Chris Godwin:  If the Bucs get a deal worked out with Shaq, in theory, they could franchise Godwin as he’s a free agent after the 2020 season. It would be a crime against humanity if the Bucs let Godwin walk. Sacrifice David to keep Godwin if you have to. Godwin won’t even turn 30 before David likely retires.

Rob Gronkowski: It’s $9.25 million for Gronk this year. Joe has a hunch if he balls out and is relatively healthy, the Bucs will re-sign him (you know, what Mr. Brady wants Mr. Brady gets?). Gronk would be 32 next season.

O.J. Howard: His rookie contract ends after the 2021, as the Bucs exercised his fifth-year option. But to earn that roughly $6 million in 2021, he has to make the roster. This is a big year for Howard to demonstrate he can live up to expectations.

Jason Pierre-Paul: JPP is signed through 2021 and is scheduled to make $12 million this year. However, if JPP was released after the season, it would only (ahem) be a $5 million cap hit. Sadly, someone needs to balance out blockers to help Shaq and JPP is that guy. So he is almost as important as Shaq.

Donovan Smith: Joe cannot fathom him going anywhere, but this is his last year of guaranteed money. His contract runs out after the 2021 season. He is due to pocket some $14 million. But why fart around with your left tackle who is as reliable as the sun when Tom Brady is your quarterback?

Ndamukong Suh: He’s on the books for $8 million this season and turns 34 in January. Joe would be surprised if Suh is back in 2021.

Ali Marpet and Ryan Jensen: Each is on the books for $10 million next season with no cash guaranteed. An injury this season or a step back in play could cloud their Bucs futures under the squeezed cap.

As you read, the Bucs likely have very tough decisions next spring. Joe does not envy Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

It could have been worse. The NFL this week was talking about cutting the 2020 salary cap. That didn’t happen.

Time to think about trading ME13.
    Yep, that’s right.

  2. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

    Brate, Suh and probably Shaq.

  3. Sarasota Garey Says:

I saw that the practice squad rosters are up to 16 players, with veterans being able to be put on the practice squad now, doesnt more players equal less salary cap space? And can other teams take these players off of anothers team practice squad?

  4. mark2001 Says:

Seems like we aren’t the only ones…
“According to OverTheCap.com, eight teams are already over a 2021 cap of $175 million with the players they have signed through next year, before they sign a single free agent next year or draft any rookies. That group includes the Eagles, Saints, Falcons, Chiefs, Steelers, Bears, Raiders and Vikings.”

  5. Yeah Says:

This is BS, smoke and mirrors nonsense. Every single team in the NFL would lose the same amount of cap space. Every single team is going to have the exact same issue. It is completely asanine for the league to lower the salary cap that drastically. That move would destroy all 32 teams cap strategies and management. If the cap does go down miraculously, I would be hard pressed to guess that it would be less than 10 million

  6. Unbuc'n Believable Says:

I could see the Bucs doing something they really haven’t embraced in the past … large signing bonuses for core players they project will still be productive over a 3 to 5 year term. That would get them through the one year drop. Players like Jensen and Bratz may be ask to cut salaries for longer term guarantees.

  7. Yeah Says:

The savy billionaires who own these teams know how to posture and negotiate well. They are business men, they ask for the moon then settle for a little bit less. Its a consistent pattern. I’m surprised they are not saying that the cap will drop 40 million, that way when they settle for no change in cap they will have succeeded.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We are in better shape than many teams….at least we have options…..we have to rely on good draft picks & UDFA’s to balance out high-priced vets.
More players are willing to play for the Bucs so that helps.

  9. Stevbobucfan Says:

I figure they will cut Gholson, trade and cut one of their TEs and move on from players like Shu and maybe P Paul.

  10. Nutterbutter95 Says:

We are in the same boat as many teams. Its not like we are the only team with a cap crunch forthcoming. Trim the fat and draft well. All FA salaries will go down because of this as well. There are a lot of what ifs in this article (will Gronk return to form? Will Howard get back to TE1 status?) I think the Bucs have a two year window with the guys they have, then will start fresh with Leftwitch as the HC, and whatever QB they chose to draft to replace Brady

  11. El Buco Realisto Says:

The bucs are in worse shape than many teams!!!!!!!!! They have almost no options!!!!!!!!! They have to rely on free-agents to be leaders and change the poor culture!!!!!!!!!!! The more free-agents needed at top dollar to make up for the poor draft picks, and the no plan for building a franchise!!!!!!!!! After missing this “one year window” of desperation, this franchise will be in total shambles for years!!!!!!!!! But that is ole stale biscuit’s modus operandi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Pryda...sec147 Says:

Trade a hof player gtfo. It’s gonna be fine like you say joe it evens itself out other teams will deal with the same crap

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Gronk, Suh, JPP…all of those will be gone next year.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    El Buco Realisto Says:
“..this franchise will be in total shambles for years!!”

Not really. All of these Free agents will come off the books and we’ll have plenty of cap room.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

JPP, Gronk and Suh would clear close to $30 million. Problem solved.

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

My question is this: What happens to the cap the following year? Will it get a double increase?

  17. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

    Sarasota Garey Says:
“… doesnt more players equal less salary cap space? And can other teams take these players off of anothers team practice squad?”
    .
    .

My understanding is that the salary cap is figured according to your top 51(?) salaries, so extra practice squad guys shouldn’t affect it.

About raiding other teams practice squad, that’s a good point. Normally, yes. But it seems with things like they are, it would be more fair to let teams keep rights to their own squad guys who are at least familiar with the system. I could see 2 OL guys test positive, and the same day some other teams grabs you practice squad lineman who knows the plays. That’d be messed up. It would make sense to change that this year.

  18. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

With the salary cap going significantly down next year you would have to think veteran players demands would also have to come down or either risk an EARLY retirement or not being signed ala Davanta Freeman and others.

  19. Oneilbucs Says:

I told everyone that this was a bad idea for the future of our team . Bruce Arians played yall because yall bought what he was saling . This will set us back for the next few years . So I hope yall happy now . Yall blame one guy for the problems of the team and now we have a 43 year old quarterback and we are old in all of the important positions with a GM that missed on the hold 2016 draft class and yall think that Jamies was the reason for that to I guess . Our future is looking bad right now .

  20. gp Says:

    Remind me again?
What are the fines/penalties for being over the cap?
This is going to affect all the teams and actually has a greater affect on the more valuable players throughout the league.
We can talk about trading them but to who? Which teams, if any have room to play under that large of a decrease.
I’m thinking that there will be a lot of contract renegotiating going on next year.

  21. Roy T. Buford Says:

It’s way too early about next year’s salary cap when there are so many variables and guys haven’t even gotten to start of camp for this year. This will be a wash. Most all teams will have a cap problem to some degree. But consider this: Suh and Gronk will likely NOT be back next year. If Shaq doesn’t have a great season, that’s $16+ million that will take care of itself. Of all those players, at least one may be injured to where they won’t be ready to play. And then at least one will likely be lured to other teams, to which the Bucs may or not be able to, or want to control–Godwin, Evans, or both. JPP will give the hometown discount.

  22. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Brate has got to either go, or restructure his contract.

  23. Youngbucs Says:

Some people in these comments want the Bucs to fail so bad. Just to say I told you so it’s an obsession for some lol. News flash this roster is better than last years. But but Brady old it’s setting us back setting what back? The only thing that was settling around here was poor play from many angles. Hopefully that starts to change now I support my team.

  24. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Pryda 147

So you think we keep drafting WRs just because right?

    Ok…..

  25. Youngbucs Says:

Thank you BUCS for ripping the band aid off!!!!!!!!

  26. Youngbucs Says:

You wanna know what’s sets a franchise back? Forget it never mind I’m rdy for football.

  27. Cobraboy Says:

Between CV19 wrecking havoc on team revenues, and the pending Woke Boycott which I predict will make the kneeling boycott look like a kindergartener pout, I suspect the future caps will plummet.

The cap is based on a % of league revenues, and the NFL is likely of fall off a cliff money-wise.

The virus will go away (if/when Donks regain POTUS power), but not the Woke Boycott.

Whover thought the NFL would die of Colin Cancer?

  28. Oneilbucs Says:

Next year we start building the dynasty hopefully Bruce Arians will retire and we need to start with the defensive line then the offensive line first .

  29. Tampabuscsbro Says:

So many people seem to still be salty the savior Jameis Winston is gone….we were never going anywhere with him…..

  30. Anonymous Says:

Roy T. Buford, couldn’t agree with you more. Ridiculous to even start speculating about what ifs. Let’s see how far we (the league) get with this season, and then we’ll start fretting over cap space. Enjoy today folks, tomorrow can wait.

  31. Alanbucsfan Says:

Every year is a 1 year window
Worry about next year in 2021

  32. Oneilbucs Says:

It’s not about being salty It’s about you don’t move on from a young quarterback that kept your team a top 5 offense for 5 years and only had a good running game 1 time out of the five years . Not to mention that he had a head coach that came on national TV and said he wouldn’t have drafted him . Then he had another one that told him to gain weight because he was going to get hit a lot . And then you bring in a 43 year old quarterback and now you draft a offensive lineman and now ever body is talking about a running game now . You talking about a 43 year old that no body wanted who has not looked good the pass 2 years . And that showed every body that without a running game he will not help you win . Remember he had the number 1 defense last year and still couldn’t help them win . Our future is looking dem right now and we have no plans after this thing is over and on top of all of that we have a virus that might cancel the season because some of the players might opt out .

  33. Allbuccedup Says:

Brate or Howard have to go in 2021 for cap space if nothing else. Right now in 2021 after signing draft picks you will have about 40 mil. With one of them traded will give you 46 mil. Godwin 15 Shaw 15 David 9 Gronk 7 equals 46. Draft a defensive tackle in 1st or 2nd round to replace Suh. It’s all good Joe.

  34. Allbuccedup Says:

Shaq not Shaw at 15 mil. Typo.

  35. Jerry Says:

The cap is going to drop because revenue is going to drop. Ticket sales will be slashed by 75% due to COVID. And many already saying they won’t watch the NFL anymore because of the social justice stuff. Rough waters ahead for all pro sports.

  36. Allbuccedup Says:

Ever since Dungy and Gruden left it’s been a one year window. Joe remember when Gruden said you ain’t seen nothing yet. Well I guess he was right, that’s all we have seen is nothing ever since.

  37. Oneilbucs Says:

Allbuccedup you right but at some point we have to become a team that wins year in and year out . I don’t want no we shouldn’t want a 1 hit wonder . We should be like the steelers or the packers at least where we can be superbowl contenders ever year and not just hope to make the playoffs . That’s how I feel about it because Brady and all these old guys are not the way to do it . Now we have no money for a 1 year moment maybe and we playing in a pandemic that can cancel the season because of Brady gets hurt or sick God forbid the season is over regardless.

  38. Youngbucs Says:

Yo shut up already you’re a broken record already get a life.

  39. Mike Johnson Says:

I do believe you can say this team is an utter failure if they do not either go far into the playoffs or bring home the trophy either this season or the next. I’m still sticking with my theory paying the plus40 yr old wonder a guaranteed 2 yr 50 mil
was a. Bridge to far. I would have kept Jameis one yr and moved up in this yrs draft and found his replacement. Not only would we have saved mega bucks, we would have our QB for the future. Shaq is gonna leave as will a couple of guys seeking greener pastures. I can’t wait to see our Star backup not if but when brady goes down. I think my desperate Bucs reached far to far. But we shall see here in a few. Better win now or it will truly be the old..BucLife.

  40. Youngbucs Says:

You don’t know what the future holds sit back and watch like the rest of us. You swear winston the truth he might b a journeyman let’s see. In the mean time stfu up Jesus you need help.

  41. Youngbucs Says:

This spit starting to piss me off 🤯🤯

  42. Youngbucs Says:

Y’all talk all that big talk y’all standards low as hell. Y’all wouldn’t know a franchise QB if 1 slapped you in the face figure of speech for the A holes.

  43. Youngbucs Says:

    Fu*king weirdos

  44. Kobe Faker Says:

“Who will be blamed if the Bucs dont make the playoffs?

There always is a fall guy

Brady does not answer to BA nor Gump

Brady communicates and goes straight to the Glazer boy band

Next year Brady will promise to play 2 more years and bring in Josh McDaniels to replace BA and Gump

Kobe Faker has spoken and it shall be”

    Kobe Faker

  45. Joe Says:

My question is this: What happens to the cap the following year? Will it get a double increase?

Depends on revenue. Salary cap based on revenue unless otherwise collectively bargained for, which this year and next year were the past few days.

  46. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs you have a low and a loser standards . Brady is not a franchise quarterback he’s 43 . Some of us has a higher standard and that means we don’t want another teams leftovers . We want a dynasty not a 1 hit wonder and that’s if we win . Because if we don’t or be able to run the ball this year we are going to lose any way . Because so far our defense haven’t proved that they can carry the team . And you right know one knows what the future holds but I do know one thing our future looks real dem and we don’t even have a plan right now for the team rather we win or not . Lol lol lol

  47. Alanbucsfan Says:

The team is built to win Now.
In 2022, Brady, Gronk, David, Suh, JPP and Brate will all be history.
    There’s $60 million
+ cap space. The team will be alot different in 2 years.

  48. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs u sound stupid you’re making no sense right now. You defeat your own argument. Nobody wants to hear your conspiracy theories anymore I tds over. Let’s see how it all plays out you wanna b right about something so bad. And so far all you winston stans have been wrong with all your predictions I know it stings but chill. Go cook on the grill or something go lift some weights for the luv of god go see the wizard and get a 🧠.

  49. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs there you go again talking crazy just because I bring facts you bring emotions . Come on cookie don’t get mad and by the way you the one who’s getting mad I’m good . Yall go crazy just because we disagree about the team . But you can’t argue facts . Lol lol lol

  50. Ocala Says:

It’s silly to write these things.
The Bucs have stayed away from signing bonuses which has given them much better flexibility with the cap.
They won’t be able to do that next year, they will have to pay signing bonuses that will be spread over the length of the contract.
For example the Bucs can offer Shaq 4 years at $60MM which is a cap hit of $15MM per year
Or they can pay him a $30MM signing bonus
    With salaries of $1MM, $4MM, $10MM and $15MM

It’s the same amount but year 1 he is a cap hit of $8.5MM as opposed to $15MM.

  51. Youngbucs Says:

You not talking facts fool you wishful thinking dumbass. You’re hoping the Bucs fail and calling it facts stfu. Fact Brady better than Winston right now at every aspect of quarterbacking save your fluff stats 🤡. Brady has better pocket awareness and is more accurate and sees the field better the Bucs upgraded. U mad 🤡 so what deal with it lol. Go jump off a bridge loser pack all your excuses with you I’m done.

  52. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs look here cookie you need to go learn football first before you make comments like that . What happened last year when the Patriots couldn’t run the ball ? He looked bad cookie that’s why the raiders pass on him they said they looked at the film.

  53. Youngbucs Says:

Are you special or something who’s talking about running the ball or defense or any other excuses you wanna pull out your A$$. Straight up QB vs QB Brady is better right now in every aspect just like I said. Try to stay focused I know it’s hard for you. Won’t you go look at winston film cookie I have everybody in the league has not no highlights video 🤡. 1 more time try to stay focused what does Winston do better. A big fat nothing Brady is superior to him at this thing called quarterback.

  54. Youngbucs Says:

You can’t even talk about Winston individually why not no built in excuses lol. Go look at winston scouting report coming out of college on nfl.com they nail him to a T lol. Even the part about prone to emotional outburst on the field 😭😭😭😭.

  55. Youngbucs Says:

Dumbass still talking bout running the ball and defense lol. Let’s talk QB IQ intangibles spit like that you can’t all you can do is mimic what some 🤡says on Twitter cult follower.

  56. Clean House Says:

    Gumpster Fire

  57. stpetebucsfan Says:

The market is the market. Perhaps it will get truly disrupted as people discuss here.

But if it’s disrupted why would we assume the Bucs will get the worst of it. EVERY decent team in this league tries to get as close to the cap as they can therefore maximizing their talent. The other teams are in the same boat a us..by and large.

My point is if we have to dump our stars there will be other stars getting dumped as well. So some players will leave and some will sign for reduced salaries in the new Covid depressed market.

  58. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs cookie you just a national media sheep . But we can talk about quarterback if you want . But cookie you have to understand that football is a team sport cookie . Brady played in a system where every quarterback looked good in cookie . Bilachect wanted to move on from Brady 3 years ago .

  59. BucsFanForever Says:

Joe is right to be concerned, very concerned. If you look at spotrac.com, the Bucs rank last in cap space for 2020, with what are said to be the top 51 players. Only $2.8 million of cap space, compared to the Browns at #1 with $38 million. The total cap for 2020 is $198 million, with the 2021 cap proposed by the NFL at $175 million. If you drop off the unrestricted free agents (Godwin, Gronk, Suh, Shaq, L. David, and replace with lesser players you can get below $175 million, but not with the current roster. It all depends on revenues substantially increasing in 2020 and 2021, which at the current time appears unlikely.

  60. BucsFanForever Says:

If you drop off the unrestricted free agents and replace with players earning at or slightly above the league minimum you can get the top 51 down to $158 million, which would leave $27 million of cap space to sign free agents. Not a lot.

We’re not in as bad a shape as some teams for 2021. The Eagles top 51 are $93 million over the projected 2021 cap, with Wentz using $35 million and Cox $22 million.

There will need to be a LOT of contract restructuring next year to get teams under the cap or…maybe the hit to the cap get pushed out over a several year period. Cap rules can always be changed in the NFL and NFLPA agree.

  61. Youngbucs Says:

Dumb a$$ said we can talk about QB than proceeds on to say but football is a team sport blah blah blah. What classes you take in school did you stay in the same room all day?

  62. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs cookie Jamies had better numbers than Payton Manning cookie in his first 5 years without a hall of fame runningback. Payton Manning had the better team than Jamies and still Payton Manning had more turnovers . But it’s just one thing is Payton is white and Jamies is black . So that’s why Jamies gets the most hate . And I know black people like you have been the problem with our people if you are a black man . So that’s why I call you cookie because even when it is put in your face you turn your head . No one can deny that Jamies has better numbers than Payton Manning . But they loved to say he went to the playoffs but he had a hall of fame runningback and a good defense that won games for him but they gave Payton Manning all the credit for the wins just like they do Brady .

  63. Youngbucs Says:

Yo you really need some help I actually feel sorry for you dude I’m not even gone waste more time with you. Like seriously stay off Twitter bro it’s not good for you. Still been waiting for you to stay on topic but you obviously are incapable of doing it. And I can’t blame you because Winston not better than Brady right now present day so what did I really expect from you lol. You got nothing to talk about. Is Winston better than Brady right now ????????? We all know the real answer it’s a big fat no !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  64. Youngbucs Says:

This is what happens when you hit people with real facts they deflect!!!!!!!!!!! Good nite my true buc fans🤷🏽‍♂️

  65. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs cookie Jamies is better than Brady right now and that’s just the truth . You will see and that’s why they are changing the play book right now for Brady . Bruce Arians told Jamies to gain weight because he was going to take a lot of hits . Now with Brady he ain’t telling him to gain weight to take a lot of hits because he’s changing the hold offense . Facts …. cookie.

  66. SteveK Says:

    O’NeilBucs,

    No. Shot. In. Hell.

Brady is the best and at 43 is still a top 8 QB. Jameis is not on that level, and is to inconsistent (turnover rate) to be in the same sentence.

  67. Youngbucs Says:

    😂😂😂

  68. Oneilbucs Says:

Well I know one thing when they played Jamies threw for more yards and touchdowns . But Brady had the better team . Facts…

  69. Oneilbucs Says:

And let’s see how many times Brady throws down field because his hold career he’s been a dink and dunk quarterback ever year but 1 . And still the main thing is we have no plans for the future and we are playing in a pandemic so just hope he doesn’t get sick because if he does we are done . Yall worry about the one hit wonder and I will worry about the next 2 or 5 years.

  70. Youngbucs Says:

    😂😂😂😂

  71. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Man are we really comparing playing QB in 2015-2019 (the era DBs are barely allowed to breathe on defenders and the QB is protected) to 1998-2002 (where defenses were allowed to do whatever they could.)

Man it’s something new everyday around here.

  72. Youngbucs Says:

He’s a cult follower they all push the same narrative 1of1 is their daddy it’s a Bucs life🤷🏽‍♂️

  73. Oneilbucs Says:

Let me enlighten yall about the hold defense was able to grab and hold more back then and now . They called that the Mel Blunt rule go look it up . They changed that rule back in the late 70s or early 80s about touching and grabbing . Payton Manning did not play in the Mel Blunt area. He played when the Mel Blunt rule was in . Now the real difference is the wr don’t have to worry about getting his head torn off now that’s the difference. If you tell me that they ran the ball more than you will be stating facts . I’ve been watching football since the 80s . So now maybe if Payton Manning played in the 80s or early 90s then he wouldn’t have the wr to go across the middle . That’s little history for yall go look it up . It’s called the Mel Blunt rule .

  74. Oneilbucs Says:

But facts are facts Payton Manning had more turnovers than Jamies rather you like it or not . And even Payton Manning blamed Bruce Arians for some of those picks . We got rid of a 26 year old quarterback who has the potential to be a hall of fame quarterback and he came to a team with no defense or running game and we were ranked top 5 all 5 years and yall dummies blamed the quarterback ? Lol lol lol when our defense had been trash since he got here and our running game all but 1 year that’s facts . So now that Brady is here it’s superbowl or bust remember to yall dummies Jamies was the only problem . The Pandemic is not a excuse because every team has to deal with it . I can’t wait lol lol lol …

  75. Tampabuscsbro Says:

There he goes again. rooting for the team to fail.

  76. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Granted if Jameis was anywhere near as good as they keep saying he is. He would be a starting QB somewhere right now.

He would not have been signed for as little as he was if he was anywhere near as good as they say he is.

  77. Oneilbucs Says:

Tampabusco I’m a bucs fan and I think everyone on this site is because who in the world will follow a team that’s been losing for over a decade . I’m realistic as well the problem with this team has been drafting hiring the wrong coaches and building the team the wrong way and a GM should have been fired last year because he missed on the hold 2016 draft . But yall made a quarterback with no running game and a bad offensive line and we were still a top 5 offense for the pass 5 years and with a bad defense the scapegoat . And now we have set the team back even further . And again it’s a pandemic going on . Facts….

  78. BucEmUp Says:

Every team has to make tough decisions. This isnt a big deal especially considering players wanting to play with Brady may resteucture.

  79. Cobraboy Says:

@oneillbucs: your shamless loyalty to America’s Turnover Machine is duly noted.

He has physical gifts, no doubt. So have hundreds of NFL QBs that needed up as forgotten nobodies.

The issue with Jameis Christ is what is between his ears. There is a difference in throwing an aggressive “no risk it, no biscuit” int. Then there are dumb-a$$ ints, like not reading defenses or throwing into double coverages.

The latter are JC’s problems. And if not for superior athletes he had in Hump, Evans and others, his numbers would be much worse.

JC had the opportunity to end up as a bright spot in the Buc’s future. Going into the last two games he looked on a streak and a winning season against decent competition at home was in reach. Just win out, and he gets a new, fat deal.

But he blew it, bigly. He choked. And looked terrible doing so.

And not only did he choke, just after the season he shot his mouth off proving how totally oblivious he was to his two-game choke: “Look at the sheets, I’m ballin.'”

JC is his own worst enemy.

There is a reason the NFL rejected JC as a starter: just look at the no-names who will start at QB while JC rides #3 pine.

I, for one, was in hopes JC would be a true franchise QB. But after last seasons Int & Fumble Parade, I am glad he’s in the rear-view mirror.

  80. Sport Says:

One-ill- so glad the organization, coaches, players and the entire NFL completely disagree with you.

You think locking up $30+M a year for JW would set us up for success? With an impending cap issue? Bah!

I appreciate you your opinion, it provides for some offseason entertainment.

    You are too funny.

YoungB – carrying a lot of water for just some dude with an opinion. Let him enjoy his crow. JW is a third stringer, possibly 4th because the Saints traded up for a QB.

Too much energy spent on a 4th stringer, who might become a cap casualty.

    In BA I Trust!

  81. Oneilbucs Says:

Sport again you are wrong what have I said that’s not facts? I get yall hate Jamies and that’s cool . But you can’t argue facts . So if we don’t make the superbowl it’s Brady fault right ? I think yall are blind by the national media . The raiders didn’t want Brady because he’s old . That’s a fact what happened last year when the Patriots couldn’t run the ball ? Lol lol keep your faith in Bruce Arians and then go look how he left the Cardinals and he will leave us the same way at the bottom . Lol lol

  82. Oneilbucs Says:

Cobraboy So I guess Payton Manning was dumb as well he had more turnovers but I know you can’t call him dumb because he’s white I get it . That’s a unwritten rule because the national media has never called a white quarterback dumb . And if Payton Manning didn’t have Harris or Wayne and all the wr that Denver had plus with his hall of fame runningback with the Colts he wouldn’t have been who he was . But now Jamies is gone to a waaaaay better team and coach and we will see how it plays out . Just like with this 43 year old quarterback that can’t move but I give him this Brady is not going to let Bruce Arians tell him to take hits like he told Jamies . This will be a new play book . Superbowl or bust … No excuses ….

  83. Youngbucs Says:

    😂😂😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭😭

  84. Oneilbucs Says:

Cobraboy and guess what no other team wanted Brady but us a team that has been losing over 10 years . And it’s not a bad thing for a young quarterback not to make in Tampa we never developed a quarterback in the history of the franchise Lol lol lol . So you called Jamies a shame lol lol this franchise has been a shame when it comes to developing a quarterback lol lol lol . Man yall are a joke lol lol …

  85. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs you must be buck dancing again huh cookie Lol lol lol .

  86. Youngbucs Says:

🤡🤡🤡this will be a new playbook lol BA and numerous coaches have said repeatedly Brady is learning the Bucs playbook but continue on with your delusional made up facts 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

  87. Youngbucs Says:

I’ll be all the cookies you want I’m not the 1 riding another mans 🥜s you are

  88. Youngbucs Says:

I honestly don’t care if the Bucs use a playbook from mars who gives a f$ck just win gms you not about winning thou you’re about hate and spiteful and just a delusional 🤡

  89. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs now you are a gay buck dancing cookie I know you must think about your masters like that . Lol lol lol

  90. Sport Says:

One-ill it’s simple, but you’ll never see it. Its abundantly clear you are a fantasy stat/Madden guy. The only thing I hate about JW is that it didn’t pan out. But if it makes you feel better to project, be my guest.

Go back and review the quotes from the coaches (Pay special attention Dirks comment on his red zone throw during the preseason game on hard knocks) and especially players at Super Bowl about JW. They all but said we want a change.

    HE LOST THE ROOM!

Off field issues (lying to the team was the end for many of them) not eliminating the game killing tendencies and getting TB were the final two nails in the coffin.

A change of scenery is the best thing for all parties. We got the GOAT! Sit back and enjoy!

    Go Bucs!

    In BA I Trust!

  91. Oneilbucs Says:

Sport you keep talking about off the field stuff man you sound like the national media bro . And that’s my point you spit out every thing they say . But again this franchise has never developed a quarterback so I can’t say that Jamies is a bad quarterback when we have watched quarterbacks leave and go win superbowls. And one became a hall of famer . So how many quarterbacks are you going to keep blaming is the real question . You mean to tell me that every quarterback we drafted was bad I just can’t believe that bro . So I’m predicting superbowl because again every lost was Jamies fault . So it’s superbowl or bust … Every lost this year will be Brady fault right ? Treat him just like you treat all the other quarterbacks that this team has every had .

  92. Oneilbucs Says:

Sport and you bring up Dirk how did the Falcons do last year on offense . Man you talking about the coach that had Devonta Freeman on the bench or playing special teams . And as soon as Dirk left he became a super star . And when he went back how did the running game looked ? Morrice Jones Drew said that’s not a good idea for the bucs when we first named him the head coach .

  93. Youngbucs Says:

This guy stay telling lies Maurice Jones Drew endorses dirk had his best years with him. Another lie out your 🥜sucking lips 🤡

  94. Youngbucs Says:

Punk a$$ can’t even root for the player he defending cause he on the bench.

  95. Youngbucs Says:

You can root against Brady thou cause he playing 🤡thts the wrong dude to root against though good luck with that also 🤡

  96. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs cookie go back and look it up and cookie I don’t do the gay talk . You must dream about Brady private parts . Man you gay if any man talk about another man private part then you are gay . And I don’t deal with gay men because I’m not gay . But you still a gay cookie lol lol lol ….

  97. Cobraboy Says:

Oneilbucs, you may be the only fan who fapfapfaps to a 3rd string QB who is a Charter Member of the 30/30 club.

You can “Whatabout” all you want. You can stick needles in a graven image of Peyton Manning. You can pull the race card (I wanted Teddy Bridgewater, that white guy, if Brady wasn’t available.)

But fact remains Jameis Christ had 5 years of opportunities and he blew them all, especially the last two games.

    Period. End of discussion.

  98. Oneilbucs Says:

Cobraboy I know bro it’s race card it’s Jamies had 5 years just like Payton Manning did but he got every excuse in the book . Again I bring facts that you can’t bring I bring stats and you say that’s not true so now I’m convinced that it really doesn’t matter you believe what the national media say so if we lose it want be Brady fault if the national media says it’s not . So I’m done with the conversation . When you bring facts and people rather to believe a lie than I have nothing else for you .

  99. Ndog Says:

Don’t worry about it Oneilbucs, reality doesn’t work here only the narratives they are told to believe matter. I’ve been down the road you are going time and time again, they only see one thing, interceptions and the funny thing is a WR could flat out say it was their fault and they would still scream it’s Jameis’s fault. Don’t waste your time bro it’s pointless. Trust me I know.

  100. Sport Says:

One – ill – you mention facts in every article but scoot on by the ones you don’t like. You are in your own echo chamber.

The off field stuff matters. Did you forget he’s already got 2 strikes, one more and he could be gone.

Speaking of baseball, have you done your scouting reports on a good single or double A ball club for JW in 2021? If not maybe some legion ball, I can hear the crunch of cleats on gravel, smell the popcorn, Mt Dew for the kids and a pull top PBR for the boys.

    In BA I Trust!

  101. David Says:

To me that is absolute BS that some teams will penalized next year because of this virus? That just makes no sense to me.

  102. Cobraboy Says:

You really believe yourself, huh, oneilbucs?

In doing so you ignore the reality that JC choked the last two games bigly and he lost the lockerroom.

I have not heard ONE of his teammates lament his departure beyond the cordial.

So there JC sits, a paltry $1 million contract, 3rd or 4th string, while you scream into the gale.

I know, I know, life isn’t fair. That’s what happens when you choke and get rejected.

At least Ndog gave you a reach-around. Small victories.

  103. Oneilbucs Says:

Cobraboy I gave you facts the last 2 games he didn’t have Evans or Godwin and plus he had a broken finger on his throwing hand with a bad knee . So ok what happened to Brady in his last game he sacked and he was healthy . And this hold thing about him being a 3rd or 4th string quarterback is dumb. Hill is a gadget guy he will never be a starter in the NFL . Jamies will more likely be the quarterback for the saints . So you can hope he fail all you want but he will be ok . I’m just not a hater and again I will ask you . When have we ever developed a quarterback ???? Lol lol and I’ll wait ?????

  104. Oneilbucs Says:

    Sucked

  105. Youngbucs Says:

I hope he starts for the saints he gone sink or swim. The field has been deciding what winston is. And it will continue to decide but I bet something the excuses won’t stop. Next the gone tell us the saints suck all over the roster if winston wets the bed.

  106. Cobraboy Says:

Wow. Mr. JC felcher oneilbucs is all about excuses.

Whatever. JC had the chance to show what he had and in both games he, personally, choked.

As a result he is 3ed or 4th on the Saints depth chart. And the Saints rewarded that “gadget” player well while JC gets barely the league minimum.

Had he shown leadership and not thrown a gaggle of INT’s the last six games, especially the last two, your fap fantasy would still be wearing Bucs gear.

Instead he’s “stat sheet and ballin'” elsewhere.

Let us not forget he lost the lockerroom. And coaches room*. And the fan room. The number of fans who lament Winston’s departure are about the number of flying monkeys who lamented the melting of the Wicked Witch of the West.

But pretend reality doesn’t exist and JC is *rerally* the Saints #1 QB. You think Sean Payton would put up with 30 int’s and 12 fumbles?

Since he came into the NFL he has averaged two turnovers a game.

    Deal with it.

    The Bucs added by subtracting.

*Well, except opponents coaches room. They no doubt loved Winston’s career propensity to be…ahem…rather generous with the football to defenses. They could almost count on it.

  107. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs you keep that same mindset about Brady this year that mean it’s superbowl or bust . If we lose it’s Brady fault and no one else .

  108. Youngbucs Says:

I’m not the 1 out making excuses for anybody I’m excited about the Bucs and can’t wait to see how it plays out. Super Bowl or bust isn’t that the goal every for every team. Keep your weak suggestions to your self I hope the Bucs win a super bowl every year since I’ve been a fan I’m not you.

  109. Youngbucs Says:

I see you deflecting as usual again won’t you speak on what I said. Instead of repeating your stupid mottos.

  110. Youngbucs Says:

Is mister 5000 gone make this top 💯 list voted by his peers?????

  111. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs you think by adding a 43 year old quarterback means we are going to a superbowl because of that lol lol you know nothing about football lol . Our defense ain’t no near a superbowl type of players. Then Florida covid cases are higher than any state in the country . And then you say that’s every year about the superbowl well you are crazy because I can almost bet my pay check we ain’t going to no superbowl they way our defense is and running game . Lol

  112. Youngbucs Says:

It’s official you’re slow I didn’t wanna say it but hey. And stop putting words in my mouth dude I said what a said. You always type a lot but say nothing read it again loser you’re plain stupid.

  113. Youngbucs Says:

Shut up you 🤡 all you talk about is running gm and defense we not even talking bout that . But because you want to what does either have to do with DECISION MAKING??????????????????????????????????????????????

  114. Youngbucs Says:

Hold every player accountable you fool don’t pick and choose. Most important position on the field gets a pass why because you got a hard on for him gtfoh.

  115. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs you are a national media child they told you that the quarterback position is the most important lol lol and you believe that lol lol . We were a top 5 offense without a running game and a bottom rank Defense and we haven’t made the playoffs why ? Because of the Defense stupid . Ever team that couldn’t run the ball didn’t make the playoffs or played good defense . That’s a fact and I’m done talking to you cookie about facts go look it up . And if we don’t play good defense this year we are not going to the playoffs . And now everyone will see what wins in this league .

  116. Youngbucs Says:

And you’re a 1of1 cult follower guess we even then huh 🤔
