“I Didn’t Want To Be Calling Some Random Dude”

“Starstruck”

No, “Random Dude,” it is unlikely you will get any accidental booty call from Cam Brate. He’s too careful.

Brate, one of the Bucs’ tight end weapons, had a Zoom conference chat with the local pen and mic club today and he explained his first communication with park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady when the Bucs signed the six-time Super Bowl champion.

Like many many of his teammates that got their first call/FaceTime/text/ from Brady this spring, they initially thought they were being punked.

Brate was no different. Only Brate decided to investigate before he returned Brady’s first text.

“The first time he texted me, I had to get double-confirmation from other people that it was actually Brady,” Brady said. “He said, ‘Hey, this is Tom. Give me a FaceTime when you can.’

“So I had to reach out to Chris [Godwin] and Mike [Evans] and say, ‘Hey, is this Tom?’ I didn’t want to call some random dude thinking it was Tom Brady.

“He is awesome to work with and we still have to pinch ourselves that we have him at quarterback. … Everyone here is super pumped.”

To give an idea of how much of a veteran Brady is and how much older he is than many of his teammates, Brate, 29, noted he remembers Brady as the Belicheats’ quarterback for as long as he remembers watching the NFL.

“First time we threw with him, I was definitely starstruck,” said Brate. He understands how big Brady is from his days going to college in Boston, “but as soon as we got to throwing and talking football it was very natural. He has a great demeanor about him.”

And from the current films, Brady looks to be in great shape. Looks much younger than he is.

I watched a minute of yesterdays workout, and I’m still pinching myself. I know as a fan how I feel about Brady compared to Winston, I can only imagine how pumped Brate says they are.

JW had ton of talent and confidence and good leadership qualities. Brady has all of the same plus an impeccable resume.

Brady still has the enthusiasm of a high school boy. That is what I took from the brief video yesterday.

    Go Bucs!

Great stuff. Love the Peter King one too. Who needs to read the stories anyway?

I just watched the Brate video. Loved it of course.

Just like with BA, a lot of fun information without giving anything away. Noticed this even when they tried to pin him down with just how many sessions the guys and Tom Brady had together. LOL.

Finally, we’ve gotten something with a little more substance re Buccaneer football.

    Go Bucs!
