Agent Talk

July 17th, 2020

“Tom, you do know Derek Jeter changed uniforms. There are boxes of old dirty Marlins jerseys in one of the guest bedroom’s closets.”

So what do agents think of the Bucs?

In a really cool article in The Athletic, Ben Standig decided to poll a bunch of NFL agents to get their takes on various subjects. As one might imagine, “The Sickness” was a big topic.

The agents were asked what they thought was the most earth-moving transaction of the NFL offseason; park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring quarterback Tom Brady leaving the Belicheats to play for the Bucs was the winner.

“I guess for me, it’s the same one everybody’s going to talk about. Not because the contract was so monumental, just that there’s been a seismic shift with (Brady). And all of a sudden, the Buccaneers are good, and the Patriots are bad. And I don’t know that any single player ever had that dramatic impact in free agency. Now, we have to play the game still, of course. But one downtrodden franchise is among the best on paper and the other historically, fantastic dynasty franchise on a 20-year run has all of a sudden gotten pretty mediocre. Now, there’s more to it than just that. But it was Tom that instigated the whole thing.”

Another agent said Brady going to the Bucs was such a huge move for the NFL, it would have been like Kobe Bryant leaving the Lakers or Derek Jeter wearing another team’s uniform playing shortstop.

In keeping with that theme, the Bucs were the overwhelming winner among agents as the team that most improved itself.

“It’s Tampa Bay because they transformed themselves. Think of where the historic arrow was pointing for the franchise. They’ve been one of the worst teams in the history of the NFL. Now with Brady, there are whole communities rallied around them. Of course, Rob Gronkowski signed with them, and they have good receivers. So you put that high-powered offense, and without the Winston interceptions, that should be dynamite. The bottom line is their tickets are sold out, their merchandise is selling and they’re getting prime-time games. In that one move, they completely changed their history. And I don’t think I can remember one player ever switching teams and boosting a team’s business side so much.”

And now you know why Team Glazer likes splash so much.

Other interesting tidbits from the off-the-record poll of agents:

* The move that surprised agents the most other than Brady? New Orleans signing Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, as a backup for next to nothing. One agent said Jameis’ contract shows he was terribly “disrespected.”

* One agent said Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht is one of the toughest contract negotiators.

* The vast majority of agents surveyed believe the 2020 season will start on time. Only three of the dozens of agents surveyed thought the 2020 season would start late. Only six thought the NFL would not play a full 16-game schedule.

I think the league doesn’t like people who claim to be serious born again Christians. JW got the same treatment as Tim Tebow.
P.S. he led the NFL in total offense, so that agent is spot on.
    Total disrespect.

Jameis thinks it’s his religious mission to get pushed around, it’s false humility,
Sand he should have the stuck with the check yo sheet, chew out Jenson on the sideline version of his persona. He’s barking up the wrong tree looking for brownie points. He’s brainwashed.

    It’s dumb.

  3. Sport Says:

Did Rosenhaus ask for Covid 19’s number to reorient him? Because that A-hole (Covid) is stealing all the headlines.

Come on Vaccines and Science! We’re gonna need you!

    In BA I Trust!

  4. Sport Says:

    Represent. Not reorient. Weird one

    In BA I Trust!

  5. Roy T. Buford Says:

My take on Winston. He is on his third agent in three years, right? He changed agents after his suspension. My hunch is his agent during the ordeal told him best to keep a lid on talking about his player conduct/Uber driver issue. That would be good advice. Then it appears to me that Winston got a friend of his to write a ridiculous book on him telling how everyone in the world was wrong about Winston, and that it was all due to media bias–not his own play and behavior. What a joke. Then last year, after Winston’s repeated “I have to do better” answer after basically every game in giving the ball away, the supposed “leak” was Winston wanted $30 million a year (cough cough). As Winston threw away the final game of the year, he told all how good he is, how great he can be, and to “check your sheet.” My hunch is that is what Winston was telling his agent to go after–$30M and a starting QB job. All 32 teams passed on Winston as a starter. A good agent would have told Winston to face realilty–his numbers and track record on and off the field are not good…to be happy with a backup gig for maybe $6-10 million. That is probably what happened I think, and my hunch is Winston balked at that, and finally took the last deal on the table that would come short of a starter going down. To use the word again, my hunch is that Winston believes he’s better than he is, blames others (especially his agents) for why he doesn’t have a sweet deal, and feels like the victim. So he’s found another agent…who may also likely tell him the reality. The problem with Jamies Winston is Jameis Winston.

  6. Roy T. Buford Says:

@Clean House…Winston and Tebow are an ocean apart. Tebow is the epitome of a leader and face of a franchise, the perfect team logo. His problem is he has trouble playing football well enough.

Winston (probably) wants to be all that Tebow is/was. I don’t doubt his sincerety. And he has the raw skill. But Winston hasn’t translated that into experience with a good record (not just passing yards, but EVERYTHING) to back it up. And he’s been a disaster off the field. Nothing recently, sure, but his first years in the spotlight of embarassment and shame were enough for a whole career. I find your assumption a little wierd. I instead look at what is sticking out there right up front, what is obvious. And it’s not about religion.

  7. Rayjay1122 Says:

Here is a different take. I thank Winston for his unique dilema. He had so. Much arm talent that we kept investing in elite weapons for Winston that all along were building up General Brady’s future Arsenal.

Without Winston and weapons for Winston campaign the pastseveralseasons, Brady would have gone to California to finish his career.

  8. Rayjay1122 Says:

Sorry for the typos. Having verve issues making it hard to feel my hands.

  9. Youngbucs Says:

Roy T. Buford your about a couple of things. And cough cough the person who wrote the book pop up when Uber Gate was hitting the fan. To try to change the perception of Winston coincidence I think not.

  10. Roy T. Buford Says:

Youngbucs, thanks for your reply. I have no idea what you are saying though. Pardon me, please.

  11. Swampbuc Says:

Clean House must have incurred a severe brain injury recently.

  12. Cobraboy Says:

Clean House/Ndog, Jameis Christ EARNED his disrespect.

And Jameis Christ is no Tim Tebow. The difference? I’d trust Tebow if my daughter/sister drove a Uber and delivered crab legs…

  13. SlyPirate541 Says:

    Winston = Worst ticket sales
Brady = Season tickets sold out

Winston is bad for business. He has a terrible reputation. Go to any team fan sites and read the comments in articles about potentially picking up Winston. He’s universally thought of as either a horrible person or a joke.

Winston’s career path is the same as Josh Freeman. He’ll get his next starting gig, throw INTs, and be done.

  14. Oneilbucs Says:

Every time I hear people bringing up the uber thing all I can say is all yall are a bunch of hypercrits . If Jamies did what they say he did stop acting like you never touch a female on her back side or even her private parts and they said stop and you stop . So stop with the my daughter coment . Because I don’t trust no body around my daughter other than family . We have a president who was accused of the same thing and he was actually bragging about on a hidden audio and he call it locker room talk . Witch I think he was being honest about it . But then when yall talk about Jamies yall act like yall never did the same thing . Look it’s ok if yall hate Jamies but guess what regardless how yall feel are the National media God has forgiven him for all sin and the Lord by his grace Is why Jesus came and died for siners not for the so called good people . Even though the Lord said ain’t nobody is going no not one . And yes the world hates Jesus Christ as well as his us who trust Him .

  15. yeah Says:

Que; Here come all the racists vehemently denying that Winston was “disrespected”

  16. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    Oneil ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

how in gods name are you justifying that. with that. wow wow.

  17. Mike Says:

Ok ok….. Winston was able to play for the bucs after the ubur thing right? Ohhh and I hate to bring it up, wasn’t this all going on during #metoo? If the NFL didn’t discipline him they would have been crucified. So don’t blame the NFL/Buccaneers for caving to a political movement, it is all the rage these days. If Winston came out of college 10 years earlier he would probably gotten zero punishment and minimal mention in the press for that insistent. And I am pretty sure had he not ABSOLUTELY SUCKED the last two games here he probably would have been able to get a decent contract here, not the 30mil he thought he was worth, but something decent.

  18. Mike Says:

And I wonder how many of the people that defend JW so furiously are FSU fans or just root for him because he is black? I can’t think of any other reason you could campion for the human loser/turnover machine. I have his Buccaneers Jersey, I supported and defended that dude for 5 years, he showed us what he was and I am done with him now. I defended Dillfer for years here, and it was only after he was gone was I able to see the truth. Until that ATL game last year I was on the fence about JW, after that last pick 6…. I woke up. So if you are defending him, I ask you to ponder WHY you are doing it?

  19. Mike Says:

Ohhh scratch the first part, I forgot that African Americans can’t possibly do anything racially motivated.

  20. Oneilbucs Says:

Tampabuscsbro who’s justifying anything all I’m saying is I’m sure you have done the same thing . So should I hold you accountable for doing the same thing ? Do your friends bring their daughter around you and I’m sure they were with you when you did it . That’s why I called yall hypocrits .

  21. Oneilbucs Says:

MIKE is big Ben , Payton Manning , Trump , is losers are even you are me are any other man that has done the same thing that’s the real question . And when have race had to do with bad behavior at times even for me and you right now ? You don’t behave well all the time no one does . Your comments just lets me know that you hate the guy and you hope he fails in life .

  22. Oneilbucs Says:

Mike maybe you like Brady because he’s white and all the talk I heard about Fitzpatrick on this site maybe yall liked him because he was white .

  23. Roy T. Buford Says:

@Oneil…not about hating anyone. And I think MOST people in the world can say they didn’t grab a woman’s privates who was driving him around in an Uber…and certainly on a broader scale, a women who was working (NOT as a dancer). The point is, Winston is not like Tebow in any way. It’s also not a matter of forgiveness. If so you are right…that’s up to God, but that also doesn’t mean he deserves to come back and be the Bucs QB or face of any team.

I see Jameis Winston is still bringing Bucs fans together! LOL!

  24. Youngbucs Says:

Don’t even waste y’all time with oneilbucs he’s the ultimate 🥜 hugger. And loves to play the race card.

  25. Youngbucs Says:

That woman was working trying to make a living and he violated her!!!! Oneilbucs can spin it anyway he wants. Then when it hit the fan Winston continued to lie about seriously. And the Bucs still pick up his option yea some racist they are🙄.

  26. Roy T. Buford Says:

Too funny. If you are a religious guy and don’t support Winston because of his of field behavior, you’re a hypocrit. If you are not religious and you don’t support Winston you are against christians. If none of the above apply, you don’t like Winston because he is black.

Let’s just skip over the whole off field debacle that NO ONE should ever do, the losing record on the field, the embarassing incidents (eating Ws), leading the league by far in INTs.

Oh yeah, he threw for 5,000 garbage yards on the way to yet another losing season. There are 1.2 million reasons why he not a starter.

  27. Youngbucs Says:

Or oneilbucs maybe you like Winston because he is black. You’re the only person who try to throw race into these conversations every time. The real racist is you just listen to yourself you mad as hell. Over a football player who is barely average 😂

  28. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs stop talking about God you worship Jameis1of1 you’re whole narrative comes from him can’t even think for yourself.

  29. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs Jamies, Tebow , big Ben and anyone else that’s a Christian is my brother and sister. I can forgive any body especially after all the things that God has forgiven me for . You say race why because I tell the truth about what’s going on and because I don’t turn my head to what is wrong ? Jamies is gone now and yes I hope he be successful and what ever he does or less he plays the bucs . I’m just not a hater like you . I think they did Tebow worng Vince Young , McNabb , Nick Foles should still be the starter in Philly . And to all you haters go in look at Vince Young stats his last year with the Titans he was black balled just like Tebow .

  30. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs their you go again with the gay talk come on cookie don’t start the gay talk again . You got to be a gay dude to keep saying the same thing over and over about a man private parts.

  31. Mike Says:

I liked Winston because he was the Bucs quarterback, I also now like Tom because he is the Bucs quarterback….. if Tommy boy comes here and has two losing seasons and throws pick 6s all year long guess what?! I will hate his @$$ TOO!

  32. Mike Says:

And if JW had won ANYTHING I would have LOVED that kid!

  33. Tampabuscsbro Says:

I love how Oneilbucs is trying to justify $&xu#l @ss#u!t of his man.

Granted it’s just par the course around here for Joe and his boomer readers to downplay things like that. IF IT DIDN’T HAPPEN IN FRONT OF A JUDGE IT DIDN’T HAPPEN.

This is disgusting. and what you’re going to accuse me of touching a woman without her consent NO I NEVER DID THAT YOU ARE SICK

ALSO JOE IF YOU DELETE THIS COMMENT BUT ALLOW THAT DRIBBLE IN HERE

  34. Cobraboy Says:

    Oneilbucs is quite the rayssis…

    At least now we know.

  35. Oneilbucs Says:

Tampabuscbro you are lieing bro again or less you are a gay man every straight man and woman has did that before . So you never touch a woman and she said stop ? Lol lol man stop lieing I’m not saying it’s right because it’s worng . I know I have been with women she may have gave me a miss message and I have touch her and she said stop and I stop . So what are talking about sick ? I went to high school and did that to grils some times when I was in school and most boys did it ad well or less you were gay .

  36. Youngbucs Says:

Oneibucs when Winston gets on the field and continues his inconsistent play who you blaming next????!! Sean Peyton????! The saints oline???? The saints defense?????! Because y’all keep saying he with this great organization now. Who’s fault is it next he got everything he needs now right???!! Who you blaming next ????????

  37. Youngbucs Says:

I’ve never seen you try to hold him accountable for anything he can do no wrong right oneilbucs????!

  38. Youngbucs Says:

    🤡

  39. Oneilbucs Says:

COBRABOY I GUESS YOU CAN CALL ME RACIST JUST BECAUSE I DISAGREE WITH YOU ABOUT JAMIES . OK MAYBE I CAN CALL YOU RACIST BECAUSE YOU DON’T WANT HIM ON THE TEAM . I JUST STATE FACTS AND YALL ANGRY WHEN SOMEONE TELLS THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS COUNTRY AND THIS TEAM OR FAN BASE.

  40. Tampabuscsbro Says:

[OK, fixed it for ya. — Joe]

  41. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    GREAT!!!!!

    Dearest thanks

  42. REDZONE BA Fan Says:

Crazy how this blog segment turned to JW, and Uber.

Shout out to poster who pointed out reporting differences, 20+ years ago, pre- Social media. And changes today.

As example, the most revered NFL QB – Peyton Manning – escaped national media exposure back in 1996, while star QB at UT. Peyton sat his anus and his testicles on the face of female trainer – Her words: “I was repulsed. I was scared. I was intimidated. … It was definitely a predator — intimidating, anger, violent eyes that he had.”

Archie Manning and UT made the story > go away and never reach national media as as story. Money/payoffs were involved, of course.

Peyton Manning is a media/advertising darling today. No mention of this ugly event, ever. Hmm

    Just sayin…

If JW groped the Uber driver – glad he got his punishment. My gripe – is that JW is held to a different standard of consequences – delegated by the same governance team who knew that Manning planted his ball sack and anus on the face of a female trainer.

    Crazy standards… for QB’s….

  43. Oneilbucs Says:

Redzone they will call you a racist for just stating facts . Now if Jamies was white and you bring facts then you will not be called a racist .

  44. Mike Says:

Smh yeah cause black quarterbacks can’t get a far chance, easily 2 of the top 3 quarterbacks in the league are black. You can argue that your boy JW didn’t get a far shot but please put the little boy who cried racist routine away.

  45. Mike Says:

No one (of sound mind) would want a quarterback who preformed like JW regardless of race. I don’t care if the bastard is hot pink, if he chucks ints and pick 6s all the damn time he has got to go!

  46. Mike Says:

I do find it funny someone talking about racial discrimination in al league that is 70% black yet only 13% of the population is black…… hmmm maybe we need affermitive action for the nfl….

  47. Roadwarrior Says:

Oneilbucs so your saying that you have done things like Jameis? I’m pretty sure that most posters on this sit have not done these things that you claim everyone has done. At least we know what kind of person you are.
