The Short Window

June 1st, 2020

Finite opportunity.

Bucco Bruce Arians has three more seasons left on his Bucs contract, including a fifth-year option for 2023.

The way things are going, who knows if we will be around to see that?

So when the Bucs signed park-violating, home-invading Tom Brady to a two-year contract this spring, it seemed pretty clear that Arians, who will be 68 this fall, and Brady, who will be 43 in August, won’t have much of a window to get things done around here.

In part, this led Steve Serby of the New York Post to ask the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo of SiriusXM if Brady, in his limited stay in Tampa Bay, can get the Bucs another Super Bowl title.

Q: Can Brady win a Super Bowl with Tampa?

A: I think they’ll be a playoff team. They only got a couple of years to do that, on a franchise that doesn’t usually win, so I would say no.

Of course, a betting man would take the field. One could argue there are more complete teams in the NFC, and quite possibly there is a more complete team in the NFC South (New Orleans).

But this is where the Bucs are banking on magic. Brady finds ways to get his teams to the Super Bowl. Drew Brees with the Saints somehow too often finds a way to lose in the playoffs. Kirk Cousins has yet to get to a Super Bowl. Jimmy GQ has made a Super Bowl but came up just short (or just too long if you are Emmanuel Sanders).

And lurking in the background is Danica Patrick’s boyfriend up in northeast Wisconsin.

Can Brady stiff arm Father Time just enough to use his magic on the Bucs? Joe knows it will be fun to watch this season develop.

Why can’t you call Brady what he really is “America’s QB”

…as far as the SB is concerned, let’s make the playoffs first.

  2. Cainishere Says:

I believe the Buccaneers snuck one by you guys.
Reid Sinnett may prove to be a reliable back up to Brady and after some education “proper education” that is he could prove to be another Brady Diamond in the rough.
You could be looking at a QB that can be coached and who better than Bruce and Brady? Sinnett showed he can run a reliable QB position while in college We may have a rookie Brad Johnson. Just my opinion. GO BUCS!!!

The people that say we’re going to be a 9-10 win team with this schedule from 7-9 last year are hilarious. 11-12 win team and getting into at least the second round. Or be very good and go deep in the playoffs and super bowl, but I doubt we’re going to show up at 5-11 like so many years prior.

  4. Cainishere Says:

One other tidbit to chew from me. My brother Kacey says he thinks that the Saints will drop Winston but I believe the truth will show that Brees is out of gas badly. I hate to digress but seriously did you not see Brees in that playoff game? WOW how were they even there. GG SAINTS!

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

SOE- To add to that, if you don’t expect to be in the playoffs EVERY year, this year especially, why bother?!
We can all point to at least 3 games that we should have won. 7-9 vs 10-6. If we were a 10-6 team last year with the most TO prone QB in the NFL, why wouldn’t you expect to be better than a 10 win team?!
In the NFL, the only goal is to win the SB.

    Yep….another G’Boyz Super Bowl Rental

I think our success will primarily rely on our Defense which most are forgetting. The focus has been on Brady & Gronk and Brady’s other weapons……

Keep in mind that this is a Defense that has 10 our of our eleven starters back and the 11th is Winfield at Safety.

There is virtually no turnover and all of the coaches are the same…..look for the Defense to surprise.

12-4 13-3 or better sweep the taints NFCS CHAMPS

Trade Brate and Donavon Smith free up 19 mil cap space. Sign Jason Peters one year 4 mil and trade for Jamal Adams sign for 4 years 60 mil. Super Bowl yeah baby!

The Bucs have a weird schedule. 2x 6 day rests, 1x 4 day rest. They get Chicago, KC, and the Saints on the short weeks. Yikes!

10-6 and a wild card birth is probably the outcome. I’d be thrilled if they made it to the NFC Championship Game.

  11. Cannon Says:

Let’s just first beat the Saint’s in Game 1.

Everyone is talking playoffs and SB. It’s nice but let’s not get a head of ourselves. One game at a time y’all. To many times we get so hyped to just fall flat. TB is one of the greatest QBs to play, gronk is elite and we have the best W.Rs in the league but still one game at a time y’all

  13. Mike Johnson Says:

Lots of pressure on Brucey here. Hope he does not wind up in the hospital if he does not win with this team. With all the national and fan hype, the pressure cooker is on baby. And if he does not make the playoffs/ These Buc fans are gonna turn on him quicker than an..Arizona Diamonback. A 2 yr window is not a lot at all. But our Bucs rolled the dice. I do hope it all works out. I just get this feeling..throwin money at an ageing vet is not the answer. But we will see here in a few…

You’re correct…the Bucs snuck Sinnett by me. But I googled and read that article in the Des Moines Register…who knows…stranger things have happened.

Johnny Unitas was drafted in the 9th round which would make him a UDFA in today’s 7 round draft like Sinnett.

  15. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Mike

Honest question. Did you think the Broncos were throwing money at an aging vet in Peyton Manning who was coming back from a career ending neck injury?

Or does the fact that the Broncos did not unceremoniously dump JW influence your opinion in that case?

  16. Mike Says:

    Mike drop

  17. Cainishere Says:

Bruce, Bowles, Brady, Gronk, Evans, Suh. David. JPP, Shaq, Via, Devin, The entire Secondary the O-Line and the WR AND RB Corps ( and then the secondary lol)
ARE ALL HAVING A YEAR LONG VACATION IN THE FLORIDA SUN AND TAKING HOME MAGICAL MEMORIES FOR MILLIONS OF PEOPLE> Many will become Hall of Famers because of this team. Could very well be the very best team in the HISTORY of the NFL when it is all said and done. All teams will be compared to our team and the world already knows it. GO BUCS!!

  18. Cainishere Says:

The QB protections these days make it possible for the QB position to have a longer life span than in the days when they could rip your head off and crap down your throat. It also puts incredible strain on defensive secondary units. Could Payton play in today’s protective NFL? You bet but his arm was Dan Marino Scary when he left the NFL. GO BUCS!!!

  19. Oneilbucs Says:

stpetebucfan The Broncos had a great defense and Payton wasn’t 43 years old either . And then all of sudden his arm went out without no signs in the year before . That’s the same reason I don’t like this move with out a young quarterback behind him . And the bad thing about it is we don’t have a defense like Denver .
