“The Biggest Issue”

June 12th, 2020

Battle two obstacles.

This is going to be tricky as tricky can be.

What might be the biggest obstacle for the Bucs to overcome to be the best team in the NFL and start playing meaningful games come January?

It’s an obstacle no one, not even the Bucs, can see.

Dan Katz, also known as “Big Cat” from Barstool Sports, periodically pops in with the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, on Florio’s weekday morning show “PFT Live,” seen on NBC Sports Network.

Recently, Katz claimed the invisible enemy is what Joe refers to as “The Sickness.”

“The biggest issue is you have a guy, Tom Brady, going to a new offense,” Katz said. “But I think Bruce Arians can figure that out pretty quickly and will let [Brady]do whatever he is comfortable with. But [also] learning new receivers and getting comfortable with them in the midst of a pandemic.”

Now this is a heck of a point. Might Arians just let Brady run mostly plays he ran at New England and slowly ease in to the Bucs offense?

Previously, Arians said Brady would run the Bucs offense because it is easier for one smart guy to learn an offense rather than 10 other guys learning a new one. But that was before all hell broke loose in this country. Might plans have changed since?

With Rob Gronkowski on board, Joe has a hunch that at least in the early few games of the season, the Bucs offense will have a lot of similarities to New England’s — more than we may have expected a couple of months ago.

    Dink n Dunk

…………………that will pretty much sum it up for the Buccaneers 2020 offense until Brady retires or leaves

  2. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Dink, dunk, drunk – don’t care – just win baby!

  3. El Buco Realisto Says:

The two biggest issues are ole stale biscuit and licht bulb!!!!!!!!!!!!! They just blame others and make excuses for their short comings and failures!!!!!!!!!!! The sheep will finally figure it out years too late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I Bleed Pewter Says:

    Like Stpetebucfan said,

    precision surgery

  5. ir8oldman Says:

Nothing against our former starting quarterback, America’s Mr Entertainment Jameius Winsterception. But the replacement should be able to manage the offense quite easily. All the teams are going through the same process as we (The Bucs, that is). I have faith that the new sherriff will get the most out of the offense.

  6. Rayjay1122 Says:

Negativity from Realisto. Wow, imagine that.

  7. Chesapeake Bay Bucco Says:

Silly premise. BAs offense will be run by Brady, with a few nuances added to suit Brady, that is all. Besides, BA and TB12 have already said that the NE and TB offenses are very similar, so this is a non-issue.

  8. El Buco Realisto Says:

So basically joe is saying that Brady is running the show!!!!!! Why do the Bucs need the largest coaching staff in the league then??????? Word on the street is that ole stale biscuit can miss most of training camp up in his lake house and there would not be any difference!!!!!!!!!!!! He can sober up in the afternoon and do a 30 minute zoom call, and talk about soggy biscuits and what ever lies an propaganda that he usually spouts off with!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then another 20 minutes for the local media who will laugh and parrot whatever bs and trash he talks and never backs up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

……if only we had a genius, pro-ready QB that was recruited by Stanford for his vast intellect…. I would feel a lot more comfortable than starting the season with an archaic hack like Tom Brady.

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

20 year vet, 6 time SB WINNER, and 3 MVPs!
I’m a lot less worried about Brady adapting than I am about conditioning of our team.
That, and every other team is enduring a similar level of adapting during this time.

  12. Cainishere Says:

Chesapeake Bay Bucco said it correctly. Brady hasn’t got a “BLANK CHECK” to do everything he wants. The Bucs still have to be the Bucs and Brady is Brady.
They are not re-inventing the wheel. Both parties are highly educated and know what needs to be done. Quite a bit of the Buccaneers playbook can be found in every playbook in the league. So we are talking just a small portion are different wrinkles to throw teams off. More than likely Brady will handle his own audible packages, otherwise he will run Arian’s no risk it no biscuit scheme. The only real adjustments will be the RB will see more action and the TE scheme will be highly developed compared to years passed. I think there will be plenty of surprises from the scheme this year. GG GO BUCS!!

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If chemistry is what we need……..we should bring in Walter White to consult….

  15. Bradinator Says:

Chemistry and timing concerns me most where Brady is concerned. Conditioning is an O-line thing. With exception of the youngster, these guys have been playing together for a couple of years now. If they aren’t in shape and ready to go, things could go south in a hurry. I expect a few sloppy games early on, but that will be true of every team since The Plague is slowing up the process like old ladies with coupons in a New Port Richey Publix.

  16. DoooshLaRue Says:

    TBBF,

    Sounds like a solid plan.
I would suggest adding Tuco Salamanca as a strength and conditioning coach……. he really knows how to motivate!

  17. DoooshLaRue Says:

The Plague is slowing up the process like old ladies with coupons in a New Port Richey Publix.
    ____

Hey Bradinator, Joe is probably going to borrow that!
    😃

  18. Cainishere Says:

Honestly, the only player that looks out of shape for the Bucs is Gronk.
That man better eat him a family pack of chicken leg quarters 3 – 5 lbs and a bunch of milk per day if he is gonna achieve the mass that he will need to compete. GO BUCS!!!

  19. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Slow day. Might have to crack a Big Storm early. Go Bucs!

  20. mark2001 Says:

Doo… pandemic not plague. The plague mortality rate was about 40% overall…this is about 3%. Of course when among them is your mom, or dad, or other loved one, it is huge.

PFT said Arians is talking about an additional reserve QB for each team, in light of this virus.

  21. SlyPirate541 Says:

Tom and the receivers/TE/RBs are practicing right now.
    1. They are working on timing.
    2. They all have the playbook.

  22. Cainishere Says:

They are out there teaching Brady the Bucs way and he is teaching them the Brady audibles. That’s all people. Geez

  23. Dewey Selmon Says:

Even with preseaon teams start rusty for 2-4 weeks. Problem is Buc teams of past were 2-5 or 2-6 and could never catch up. If the 2020 Bucs start 3-3 or 4-2 etc, they will be dangerous down the stretch.

  24. Buc4evr Says:

I’m most worried about the “Sickness” and the effect it could have on the team. Remember MRSA? The Bucs are unlucky when it comes to communicable diseases and what happens when players start testing positive?

  25. Frank Menendez Says:

Joe are you a big fan of Pardon My Take? I personally love it and think that style of sports reporting is the future for younger listeners and viewers

  26. Danny C Says:

I personally don’t care who’s offense we run as long as we win. We can back to the inverted wishbone and if it we win, I’ll love it!

  27. Nick2 Says:

That would be the smart thing to do. He is the GOAT but lets not annoint him as a savant too. I mean even the GOAT cant expect to become a mind reader when last year some of Jameis picks were declared not his fault because his receivers werent in the right place. If anyone can do it Brady can but it will truly take everyone coming together and giving more than they ever have before. The reward will be huge if they can pull it off and Bradys legacy will become one that no other QB can touch for a long long time. I mean we have been losers since Chucky left this is what we need but lets be patient.

  28. Shawn Says:

90% of you are idiot’s, if you wanted to go 8-8 and bring back 30 interpretation WINSTON than you should have. You have no clue what you have in Brady as a QB and as a leader. Shame !!!!

  29. BucEmUp Says:

They are going to do what works.Leftwich is out common sense is in.

  30. Stanglassman Says:

Remember when Josh Freeman run the Colts offense a week after signing with the team. I think Brady can do it.

  31. D1 Says:

    Stanglassman,

No, can’t say I do. The Vikings yes. I don’t believe Freeman ever was a colt.

  32. John5 Says:

The biggest issue is Covid keeping us from having an NFL season after we acquired this old goat.

  33. Bucnjim Says:

Why can’t you have the best of both worlds? Brady to protect the ball and Arians to push it down field. These guys are two of the few alpha males left let them do what they do.

  34. Cainishere Says:

(>”)> WE LOVE SHEEEEP!! BAAAAAHHH <("<) As I said earlier, Brady will have an extensive audible package best believe. Arians game plan will be the
No Risk It No Biscuit scaled back to allow for more TE and RB play.
Lefty leaving us? Can't see that happening. He is such a fast learner and doing a good job.
    Go BUCS!!

  35. DoooshLaRue Says:

    D1

Yeah he was, back in 2015.
He played for 5 NFL teams.

  36. SOEbuc Says:

Shawn…I know right. The sheep and the bandwagonders and the BSPN BS has returned. Tom and Gronk aren’t sweating sh!t except high noon in Tampa. It’s not going to be Arians straight up system. Tom Brady is OC #2. They definitely started talking about that the first day he talked to the Bucs and QB pimp Arians. Tom doesn’t have to get teams to gel. This team is going to be rock solid in the locker room with Brady. And not to mention we have a damn fine team without Brady and Gronk.

  37. Cainishere Says:

Dewey Selmon = bad ass! I miss you and your brother playing.
I was a kid but you fellas were so much fun to watch.
    Nice comment too! Go Bucs!!

  38. SOEbuc Says:

Sucks I can only watch BS analyst that say we are a 9-7 team that won’t make the playoffs. They have no brain on the Bucs what so ever except saying Brady fell off and Gronk’s past. It’s Brady. It’s the best receiving team. Drafted what could be best OT. All around RB. I don’t get it.

Remind me to drop kick Shannon Sharp in his Bronco face and spit on him when I’m done after we whip NOLA week one.

  39. D1 Says:

    Doosh,

    Thanks.
Did He play at all with the colts? After his Vikings debut , I don’t recall anything else.

  40. Cainishere Says:

Freeman played one game with Minnesota and lost and he played one game with Indy and Won. He played a total of 60 games for the Bucs!!

    Thanks for the 411!

I must have been in China when he got a start with the colts. Missed it altogether!

I’m wondering what situation the colts were in to start Freeman. Any idea?

  43. stpetebucsfan Says:

Yeah like the Bucs need to come out of the box with gadget plays and complicated offense.

The Bucs have enough talent that they can beat you with their talent no trickeration required. Which target are you going to double…targets? Double team two…what caliber of DB ends up covering one of the Bucs Pro bowlers…can teams go three deep with their CB’s? 4 deep?

I hope Brady replaces BA’s no risk it no biscuit with a blitzkrieg offense.

Some teams score with long bombs quickly…others plod along up and down the field with balanced offense…and others complete lots of 5-15 yarders…quickly move the sticks down the field and then score TD’s. They may run six plays but they still score quickly. With all of his targets I think Brady can do that all day long.
