Not Buying The Hype

June 11th, 2020

Skeptical.

So the crowd at NFL Network has their crystal balls out.

Yes, they do. Actual props!

In a recent edition of “Good Morning Football, the backup team of fetching Colleen Wolfe, Mike Robinson, DeAngelo Hall and Mike Garafolo manned the breakfast table (virtually) and gave their predictions.

No team has been hyped like the Bucs and Garafolo isn’t buying it. Instead, he predicts the Bucs yet again will be watching the playoffs from their couches come January like everyone else.

“The Tampa Bay Buccaneers do not make the playoffs,” Garafolo said. “Here we are talking about Tom Brady and going to Tampa and them being Super Bowl contenders.

“Look, there’s a lot of change with him coming in. Yes, they have had their time separately (during the lockdown) but not together as a team and I think that is a deterrent. I also understand that maybe people are exaggerating how much he is going to have to hold the football in Bruce Arians’ scheme, but there is going to be an element of that. There is just too much of [uncertainty].”

Joe sees Garafolo working here. His concerns are valid. The thing is, if the Bucs’ defense played like it did the last few games last year, the Bucs won’t need to score 30 points a game to win.

In other words, in years past, the Bucs had to outscore their own defense to win.

In Joe’s eyes, what the Bucs cannot afford is too many injuries to the defense. It’s thin as can be.

You can watch Garafolo’s take and the reaction from his three colleagues at the 3:30 mark in the NFL Network video below.

This is a guy who has to try to be the one who will say, “I told you so”. He doesn’t know nothin’. He is just hoping he will be right. If he turns out to be wrong how will people view his words? RESULTS? FIRED!!!GO BUCS!!!

  2. TheBradyBunch Says:

The Bucs were a 9-7 football team last year if not for a soccer player losing two games. They would have been a playoff team this year if they had kept Winston. Bringing in Brady and Gronk for a last hoorah should be the key ingredients for a SB run, let alone the playoffs.

Forget what the win totals will be, how many national interviews will ole stale biscuit do??? Ole stale biscuit loves the camera more than She-mc93 did!!!!!!!! Now that is saying something!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Bill Cicero Says:

Ever since Ira told the story of how he had to pick the Raiders to win the Super Bowl because all the Tribune writers were picking the Bucs, I’ve taken predictions with a grain of salt. Well, that’s an understatement. I don’t believe what any TV talking head or sports writer about much of anything.

It’d be interesting to see what kind of track record each of these predicting people have had over the years regarding the Bucs. I thinks most of them would be way off.

Gotta remember: Sportswriters are not handicappers. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be sportswriters.

That’s why for years (going way back when Joe first became a sportswriter) that he resisted doing picks. It’s nothing but a massive headache with no upside.

  8. Clean House Says:

Could have had the continuity and chemistry of the NFLs passing leader
    Jameis Winston

  9. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Clean House

Why don’t you become a saint’s fan if you love Jameis so much????

  10. doctor_berto Says:

Jameis has more chemistry with the Saints than he ever did with the Bucs

  11. Marine Buc Says:

I predict a 10-6 season. We will make the playoffs but will probably be a wild card.

  12. SB Says:

Man Joe…….’fetching’ is totally correct but it barely describes Colleen Wolfe!
    Hot as the sun!

  13. SB Says:

Ok. I am wondering what the ‘key’ word was that put that into moderation

  14. Cainishere Says:

We will see that chemistry and familiar sights of WR shrugging at who he was throwing to. RB in the flats who he throws short to. We will witness Winsnone hanging on to the ball for so long that he will pop up one of those infamous fumbles, but NOTHING and I mean NOTHING is as exciting as his wonderous pick sixes. YIPPY! We will see him yelling at players then throwing away the game for the Saints and if he doesn’t then he deliberately lost games in Tampa Bay! RESULTS? FIRED! BYE JAMEASS WINSNONE! Go eat some Ws you weirdo Winsnone lovers!

Rather than making it seem like the defense’s fault lets change that a bit because it was Winston’s turnovers that would put our defense on their heels most the time.

So let’s be accurate and say what the real reason was,
In recent years the Bucs had to outscore Jameis Winston’s untimely turnovers to win.

  17. Rob F Says:

The Bucs defense should also have an easier time not being asked to defend a short field after a dumb turnover as often.

  18. Buc4evr Says:

I think the Bucs may get off to a slow start as the Sickness has cost them valuable time to practice and adapt their play calling to Brady. However in the 2nd half of the Season assuming no player Sickness quarantines and No serious injuries, the Bucs will crush it.

  19. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Garafolo does not factor in how many games Jameis lost for the Bucs last year. We were always playing catch-up. Defense was wore out because they were on the field 65 percent of the time.

  20. stpetebucsfan Says:

Wonder how many Bucs games this guy watched in 2019?

Highlight and lowlights reels only tell part of the story.

If getting excited about the uncontested GOAT joining the team is hype so be it.

  21. Allbuccedup Says:

Need to trade Brate to free up some more cap space. Release Justin Evans if hes not 100%. Sign either Tavon Wilson or Tony Jefferson to a one year deal. Then sign Clay Matthews to a one or two year deal for depth. Otherwise with a edge rusher or safety going down we are dead. No playoffs.

  22. SOEbuc Says:

Haha. I love this shoot how it’s Tom or playoffs. How about this awesome coaching staff we haven’t had since Chucky first year and Monte won the SB. BA brought in a stable of good coaches . “Bucs have a good defense” is what the nationalist’s say when they don’t know “Bowels came in and turned this defense from one of the worst in history into a damn fine defense in one year. Not to mention they’re all returning.” This D will hold any team to 28 pts or less. Mix that Tom and his weapons and think about the Bucs not making the playoffs.

Coaching staff is my reason for a future BL or Christianson HC. More staff to keep together. Especially Bowels.

  23. SOEbuc Says:

*”since Chucky first year and Monte won the SB.”

    With old ass Brad Johnson.

  24. Cobraboy Says:

Another geek who knows nothing about the Bucs.

I suppose in 2020 this is now authoritative “news.”

Geeks speaking geekoid geekery to geeks filling dead airtime, who eat it up.

    Whatever happened to Oscar Madison?

  25. Stanglassman Says:

They scored 31 and 34 points and still lost to the Gaints and Seahawks. Nobody was going to lead that team to the playoffs with that young secondary. If they would have gotten the wildcard spot they would have been one and done with all the offensive injuries. This was always going to be the year regardless of who was at Qb.
Now I think there best chance is 2021. Not that they can’t make a run at it this season. That’s if they retain Shaq and most of their FAs for next year Brady and the rest of them will be much better with a real offseason and another year in the system.

  26. chris L Says:

ive said it before on this site and you laughed last time joe but EFF garofalo. the bucs are going to prove the doubters wrong. he is so biased and in love with his eagles it is hard to watch. same with colleen and michael robinson with the seahawks. the “B” team on GMFB sucks. i watch every morning and Kay Adams & Co. rock them. there is a reason they put the B team on much less.

  27. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

This guy is not even a back up…more of a practice squad member called up from his Mom’s basement. He didn’t even shower before this clip.

  28. 541BucsFan Says:

Starving for attention. Mommy didn’t hold him enough.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Brady’s been getting teammates together for practices twice a week. A lot of teams expect an adjustment period. They’re in for a surprise.

  30. Cainishere Says:

28 pts per game for opponents? No way they will beat this sir.
The Buccaneers allowed just 196 points in 2002, an average of 12.3 per game. Only four other teams in league history have allowed fewer points over a 16-game schedule. You gotta have THEM numbers with Brady and you are dominating like 2002 did clearly. Wow what a defense they were.GO BUCS!!!

  31. Mike Johnson Says:

Buc Might..possibly slip into the playoffs. But I do not see our 2 yr 50 mil aging has been leading this team anywhere. I’ll be here to tell you all, I told you so. For now though, I’ll let you guys continue scarfing up your daily doses of Hype. I give Brady credit though, I would have taken all that guaranteed money too.
