Booger Talks Brady

June 2nd, 2020

Thinks Bucs QB hit jackpot.

Tom Brady may no longer be in New England where he annually competed for a Super Bowl.

But to hear former Bucs defensive tackle and current ESPN talking head Booger McFarland, Brady has landed in the NFL’s Shangri-la.

Booger recently was on the “Richard Deitsch Podcast.” Deitsch, who writes a media-focused column for The Athletic, had Booger on to discuss his exit from the Monday Night Football booth and the politics of the job and other inner-workings of the industry.

Smartly, Deitsch decided to ask Booger about Brady coming to be the Bucs’ savior and if he could succeed in the twilight of his career.

Richard Deitsch: You live in Tampa and you have unique insight into the Bucs organization. Tom Brady is in Tampa, far and away the biggest transaction in the NFL offseason. Arguably the biggest transaction ever in the history of the NFL offseasons. What is that experience going to be like for Tom Brady?

Booger McFarland: I think it’s going to be really good, man. Because Tom Brady was in New England. And for so many years he had to perform and do things the Patriot Way. And he did it and won a lot. But I think any time in life you get the opportunity to do something different, I think there is an excitement, there is a level of intrigue, there is a level of curiosity for Tom Brady. ‘Can I do it a different way? OK, can I win without Bill [Belichick]?’ For those that say he has nothing to prove, I get that. He has nothing to prove about winning or about being the greatest of all time. But there is a part of Tom Brady that wants to do it on his own. So I think he has that to prove to himself. If that is the only person he has to prove it to. He is going to come to Tampa and he will be in a position where he will have more talent than he has ever had, I think, collectively. You look at the tight end room, you look at the wide receiver room, you look at what [the Bucs] have as an organization, a young defense, get to play in warm weather. And I know he struggled down in Miami but you can’t tell me an athlete would not want to play in 75 degrees and sunshine the majority of your season. And he is going to get that, I am telling you now. It’s 95 degrees in Tampa today. It’s great weather. You are going to enjoy waking up every day. You are going to enjoy just walking outside. From a mindset standpoint, I think he is going to be in the greatest place he has ever been. Just from an overall athletic standpoint, yeah, he has gotten older. But he is going to have more weapons than he has ever had. He is going wake up and go outside and probably feel better — in November in Tampa it is still 80 degrees and sunshine. He is in a position now where he is going to enjoy this season. I don’t know if they are going to win a Super Bowl or not, I don’t think anyone knows that. But I think from an enjoyable standpoint, he is going to enjoy this season as much as he has enjoyed any season in his career both on the field and off the field. To me, when you are 43 years old, what more could you ask for? I don’t think there is anything more if you are Tom Brady than you can ask for. To be in position and to leave a team that you have taken to nine Super Bowls and you won six, and now you get the opportunity to come to Tampa, Fla., and live in Derek Jeter’s house and experience what you are going to experience here. I think he has got to pinch himself every morning when he wakes up now.

But will Brady enjoy himself too much? Yes, yes, yes, Brady is focused and driven, Joe gets that. Joe also is of the belief that the Bucs didn’t make the investment in Brady for him to coast the next two years before he calls it quits for good.

And Joe doesn’t think Bucs fans want to read or here how much fun Brady is having renting a waterfront mansion on the west coast of the east coast.

Brady, Bucs fans will tell you, has the rest of his life to enjoy himself with his family and his supermodel wife. Until that day comes, get locked in on getting this rudderless franchise into the playoffs.

I doubt lack of focus would ever be an issue with Brady.

Yeah Booger I LOVE LIVING IN TAMPA BAY!!!

Brady is going to be reminded of his youth. 265 sunny days every year in San Mateo. Boston is at 200 and Tampa is at least closer at 246. And of course we haven’t mentioned no ice or snow to deal with.

Derek Jeter was a star athlete in the “Big Apple”. He could have lived anywhere in the world in retirement. Jeter’s desire to get back into baseball and franchise that is still in Florida Sunshine means that Brady gets to live in Jeter’s dream retirement home.

TB12 and Giselle’s travel needs are met by flying in private jets.

It’s good to be King! Or GOAT!

I wonder if he said that while riding in the boogermobile

Hi folks. Ole Booger lookin good sir!! Tom Brady is the ultimate competitor. His routines and preparation is far beyond what most QB do to prepare for each game he plays in. He with his teams play as if they are in a Super Bowl or Championship game. He doesn’t take games off or make excuses. He motivates designates and dictates with heart and compassion, he is a leader. When the cheating scandals creeped into his world, this caused a tarnish to appear on his career. He being the professional that he is will not allow that to happen. Hence the Buccaneers with the closest capability to achieve the goal of solidifying his legacy as the world’s greatest QB. GO!! BUCS!!

    Brady coasting or unfocused πŸ˜‚πŸ›‘

Tom loves football. Didn’t come to Bucs to tank for his last two years and it’s not like the family needs money.

But he won’t be able to play with out Belicheat! 9 SB appearances and 6 rings and you don’t think he can’t do it. And the even funnier thing is he is with the QB Whisperer now who doesn’t know much about the position.

    Tom gonna slice and dice.

Booger can talk about Brady? Is that ith or without the Monday night Football mobile?

Never impressed with Booger as a player, and that impression has not changed much since he hung up his cleats. I will admit he does have some good insite on the game within the game. But overall it is mostly just all fluff and stuff. I might be still a bit let down and disappointed that he took the place one of my favorite Bucs ever Brad Culpepper. And never surpassed any of Culpepper’s accomplishments with the Bucs! Not even close.
    GO BUCS!

So if Brady comes here away from BB and wins a SB and BB doesn’t, of course; all right let’s say that’s settled….where does that leave Arians…I mean, he would be the SB HC…… it’ll be like not giving Arians any credit…awkward..

    definitely agree with gobucs 72^^^

Why don’t I want to read about Brady having fun at his waterfront mansion – why would you assume that? Brady living it up, in a beautiful house, in fantastic weather, while a bunch of slobs up north are freezing in their gray lands is fun news, I love it.

  11. SOEbuc Says:

Rod Munch… Yes the Brady kids got it bad down here. You can get a bad sunburn but not break a hand slipping in sludge. I also like to think Brady’s getting use to the weather in some kind of daily outdoor exercise but haven’t heard of him jogging on Bayshore Blvd lol.

Throw in a Brady that’s bronzed and we got a close competition with Michaelangelo’s David.

  12. CunningLinguistics Says:

I thought winning was Supposed to be about being part of a cohesive unit. Now, suddenly, it’s about doing it on his own? McFarland spews word soup hyperbole.

  13. TheDood Says:

BOOGER is the man! The main difference between him and Brad Culpepper?

Booger has a SUPER BOWL Championship ring!
    Culpepper….does not.

Their career stats are fairly even. But the ring man…..the ring…….

I will miss Booger on Monday Night Football.
Actually, I like him and Chris Simms as analyst’s better then I ever liked them as players.
