The Bucs & Opening On Monday Night Football

May 4th, 2020

NFL super insider Peter King talks schedule

It’s schedule week!

The NFL is planning it’s annual spring-time ritual in a matter of hours after a delay related to The Sickness.=

For many days there’s been a rumor floating around Twitter and various websites that the Bucs will open at home on Monday Night Football against the Falcons. Joe didn’t take the specifics of that seriously, but in his renowned NBC Sports column today, Peter King suggested the Bucs will be chosen for that glorious opening Monday.

When the schedule comes out later this week, the one thing current events have done, most likely, is to make Tampa Bay a national team with new quarterback Tom Brady. I’d be surprised if the Bucs didn’t get scheduled for a prime-time game in Week 1, perhaps in one of the two ESPN windows on Monday.

Two Monday games are featured in Week 1: kickoffs at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. EDT. Obviously, west coast teams get the national late game, so a Falcons at Bucs matchup would fit the conjecture.

Joe’s fine with that. If you can’t beat the Falcons at home, well, then Super Bowl dreams feel phony. Regardless, the many young Bucs will have to be mentally ready for the national spotlight immediately — and, in that scenario, be able to deal with a likely short-week road game in Week 2.

    It’s Bucs @ LasVegas Raiders.
The late Monday night game. Nothing will draw more than Brady @10pm.

  2. Brad Says:

Unless the stadium isn’t finished or there’s no season

  3. theodore Says:

1pm kickoffs are foreign to Brady.

  4. Afo Says:

    We need this national attention

  5. Imon Says:

MNF in front of tens of thousands of empty seats… how exciting! 😛

I guess it’s better than the alternative which is that the NFL comes back after Brady has long retired…

  6. Pryda...sec147 Says:

I’ll take MNF Tampa for game 1. Just don’t want to melt in the sept sun I liked 4 ppm games

  7. gofortheface30 Says:

If the Bucs can’t beat the Falcons at home, superbowl dreams feel phony.” Slightly disagree. Bucs did not look to great under Gruden that first year, and in fact lost to Saints (and looked bad in doing so.) I would not be surprised if the Bucs looked semi sluggish to start year. A lot of new moving parts, some adjustments on offense, limited offseason work. Lets not all spaz out if they start 2-2. I can see this talent/team figuring it out, and peaking towards the end of the year

  8. Ndog Says:

    Superbowl win or BUST!!!!

  9. K2 Says:

If the Bucs are a good team they need to win that one. Good teams beat the weaker teams and Atlanta is not a powerhouse.

  10. Dapostman Says:

I can see the Raiders hosting the late MNF game only it won’t be against the Bucs. The Bucs may actually host the early game. Can’t see the NFL putting an eastern time zone team in the late game. They want wide awake eyes watching not old geezers asleep.

  11. Dewey Selmon Says:

I would of thought with the NFl maybe needing to shorten the season they would of put the division games in the middle of the schedule and the non-division games weeks 1-4 and 13-17 so if you have to cut the beginning or end of the schedule off each team would have the same amount of division games played.

  12. JP09 Says:

1 Winning season in 5 years BUST!!!!!

If we play the falcons on the first Monday night, we’ll definitely have at least 5 prime time games

  13. Tye Says:

Until now the Bucs haven’t had a team worthy of national exposure because so many other teams were better teams and so more exciting for even those who are not fans to still sit and watch…
The Bucs of the past several years had many Bucs fans turning the channel and tuning out so why would those who were not fans want to watch that train wreck..

BUT NOW that has all changed.. new additions toe the team captain by a guy that has played in 9 SB and won 6 of them now plays for the TB Buccaneers and has much winning wisdom to share with the other players to elevate the whole team to better playing ultimately putting a better quality product on the field than we have seen in 10-15 years…
Exciting times for True Bucs Fans!

  14. SC Bucs Fan Says:

    Don Shula died. RIP.

  15. Dewey Selmon Says:

    RIP Don Shula!!!

  16. MTM Says:

    The Bucs ” anytime, anywhere”!!

  17. Ndog Says:

Tye this just shows you are not a Bucs fan, plus we were easily one of the most exciting teams last year. Every game was close and went down to the wire, regardless of the reason for each game. I also love how you are all so confident when you literally haven’t seen anything yet, you all are a bunch of pathetic lackeys just living off of another teams glory. So freaking sad that my team has fans like you.

  18. Tampabuscsbro Says:

You know Joe should probably do something about Ndog’s rants.

Going on and on and on about a 3rd string QB he needs to go start posting on some saints sites and see what those fans think.

  19. Ed Says:

Sad to hear about Don Shula, a winner all the way.

  20. SC Bucs Fan Says:

TBBB, I think NDog’s comments reflect a guy who believes JW will be good in the future and I respect that but disagree. His whole shtick of Arians being 2 faced or we are mortgaging the future, well, I lose respect there.

  21. Craig Says:

I am a Bucs fan and hope the Bucs do get the opening Monday game.

It will be a show that the team is arriving. It might even be the first national game in years that they didn’t choke and prove they weren’t ready for prime time.

Most of that can be directly blamed on the QB of the time. They just couldn’t play under the bright lights.

  22. Pewter Power Says:

Falcons offense is established but I’d expect them to win as pong as there’s a full training camp

  23. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I don’t expect this but I don’t want to see us peak too early and then flaming out in the post season either. The odds of us becoming the first team to play in its home stadium for the Super Bowl are long enough.

  24. pick6 Says:

if it isn’t bucs raiders in the 10 pm slot the league is crazy. gruden’s history with the bucs and brady, plus new stadium…it’s a layup

  25. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I will enjoy watching us build and watching us win one game at a time.

  26. Youngbucs Says:

    Jp09 😂

  27. bucsfaninoregon Says:

Yeah, we’re going to play MNF in September of this year. In your dreams people. Now the president is bragging that there will only be 100 K of deaths. Step up and get your tickets to sit shoulder to shoulder to some screaming (and coughing) stranger. Anybody see any problems with this? Even in Tampa?

  28. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog that wasn’t excitement it was a horror show. You really need help your mind is gone. Stop attacking people tye made a good post.

  29. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

How about a post about Don Shula ?

  30. Ndog Says:

YoungBucs I do admit watching Daniel Jones, Russel Wilson, Teddy Bridgewater, Jared Goff, Kyle Allen, Drew Brees and Kyler Murray rip our defense apart was tough but thank goodness we had a QB that kept us in every game despite their sorry a$$ getting shredded each week.

  31. Ndog Says:

True Bucs fans are always excited, they don’t have to wait for some other teams cast off to be excited about our football team. You people are a pathetic excuse of a fan.

  32. Youngbucs Says:

Maybe you should checkout the next article buddy!!!!

  33. Ndog Says:

Um Craig you might want to check the FACTS as Jameis has played well many times in our night games, but yes we lost cause our kicker missed 4 kicks vs the Pats or the defense gave up 200 yards rushing to the Falcons or our oline was a sieve and have up 7 sacks and gained like 42 yards rushing. You know the other parts of the team that were pure trash!

  34. Mcruzer Says:

I must be the only one that likes the Bucs playing at 1pm EST on Sundays. Us day drinkers appreciate the early start and early bed times.

  35. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

At this point the Bucs are a paper tiger. I will believe all of the hype when the W-L record says 11-5 or 12-4. Has anyone asked themselves why the Pats were so quick to part with the GOAT?

  36. Buc1987 Says:

Ndog…no one cares about Jameis anymore but you.

  37. D-Rome Says:

Saints vs. Bucs will be my prediction for week 1.

I must be the only one that likes the Bucs playing at 1pm EST on Sundays.

No, you’re not the only one. I love 1 PM games because after 4:30 my Sunday’s free time is limited. I’ll make due.

  38. SOEbuc Says:

Bucs D will shut that sh!t down if we get opening MNF. Super Bowl reds against those ugly ATL uni’s.

  39. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Bucs were never out of a game with Jameis, but neither was the other team- but no doubt, Jameis was entertaining and exciting.

Why would Bucs play division games early if season may be delayed a little?

  40. Chris Boyd Says:

I’m not 100 percent sure but I’m pretty sure the first games are always divisional games so it can’t be vs the raiders if that’s the case

  41. Blind Melon Says:

The leaks I’ve seen say TB @ ATL.

    Crazy times.

  42. Bradybru Says:

Ndog now you sound like a bitter player who has been cast aside because he can’t face the truth and facts that there are people better than hi. You take a good topic and spoil it. Again Ndog stop being a Debbie downer. Your a negativity is getting old, and all your comments always have to do with JW especially when it 360 degrees in the polar opposite direction. If your not JW or clearly remotely related or have monetary remuneration from him, then your his boyfriend and you should go move to NO to be with the newlyweds. You could always be his flunky and cheerleader in the same town with him. Go away and stop trying to ruin it for everyone.

  43. Bradybru Says:

    Ndog Gooooo Bucs, Tompa Bay!

  44. Jack Karako Says:

What rock did this moron gofortheface30 crawl under from?

    gofortheface30 Says
Bucs did not look to great under Gruden that first year, and in fact lost to Saints (and looked bad in doing so.)

Gruden’s first year was the Super Bowl year where the team went 12-4 in the regular season, and 3-0 in the playoffs. The first game loss to Saints was in overtime 26-20. It was a very competitive, close game where the winning score was from a botched punt in the end zone recovered by the Saints.

  45. Bradybru Says:

AlN and Ndog nothing exciting about watching schizoid. Brady canGive you the excitement you think you had, you might really enjoy him being the Bucs QB, of course you’ll always compare him to your boyfriend but Brady is the real deal

  46. Bradybru Says:

Yes please Ndog go to a saints site please, talk about their 3rd stringer endlessly, please. I read this site all the time, joe is awesome, and so are the fans. Your really bringing everyone down with your tunnel vision.

  47. Seminole Bill Says:

Governor deSantis has stated on several occasions that football with fans in the stands is a non-starter, in 2020.

  48. bucshot Says:

    “THE GRONKENEERS”

  49. bucshot Says:

    opps…………

    “THE GRONKANEERS”…………………..love it!

  50. Gofortheface30 Says:

Jack Karacko – I’m aware that they went 12-4. And yes to win a Super Bowl you kinda have to go undefeated in the playoffs, but thanks for point out that they went 3-0 in the playoffs Issac Newton. Use those thick glasses of yours to ready a little harder between the lines of what I was saying old timer. My point was like a rocket flying over your bald head. I will break this down in an easier to understand sentence: the Bucs struggled out of the gate to start the year. They lost the first game. To an inferior team, you walking taint. Nobody needs to lose their gd minds if they lost the first game of the year, it’s a long season. Understand now “Jack?”

  51. Buccan8 Says:

Joe—thanks for caring enough about what you do to differentiate between EST and EDT; it boggles my mind how many professionals don’t take the time to either make sure they know the difference, it just be safe and make the reference to ET.

    Now, about that free-radical equal-sign up there…. 😉

Finally, good lawd people—haven’t there been enough idiots who have referred to 360 degree changes, when they really mean 180 degrees? Doing a 180 means you’ve essentially reversed course, going in the opposite direction to your previous one. A 360 is the same as “coming full circle,” meaning you are going in the same direction as you were previously. Please, let’s put that to bed—once and for all. You sound like the guy who, when asked if he prefers dribbling with his left hand or his right, said, “I can do both equally well; I’m amphibious!”

More intrest and better ratings if it’s the Saints at Bucs Monday night
