Remembers Tom Brady’s Leadership

May 7th, 2020

Shares Tom Brady story.

Pretty cool inside story on how new Bucs quarterback Tom Brady strives for perfection.

If you ask Joe who was one of the most improved Bucs last year, Joe might say defensive end Will Gholston.

No, Gholston wasn’t remotely close to a Pro Bowler. But he always played the run well.

Last year playing next to Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea, Gholston looked every bit the savvy veteran if not a force against the run. Gholston is now entering his eighth Bucs season out of Michigan State. Yeah, hard to believe.

Gholston cut a video with Darien Harris, who is on the Michigan State football staff. Gholston and Harris were briefly college teammates and the podcast video is called “Spartan to Spartan.” The format has a former layer chat it up with Harris, mostly about how playing for Michigan State meant so much in their lives.

Naturally, the two talked Michigan State ball but pretty soon the talk shifted to Gholston and the Bucs. Gholston was asked about what he will say when he first meets Tom Brady on the practice field.

“I’m not going to say a word to be honest with you,” Gholston said. “I want to see the magic.”

Then, Gholston shared a 2013 story about Brady that really made an impression upon the rookie.

“We had a joint practice with the Patriots,” Gholston said. “And [Brady] started it over. I thought it was the coaches. It was my rookie year, 2013. I thought it was one of the coaches who started the drills over but it wasn’t. It was him.

“I have a lot of respect for him and all of the accolades.”

There is something else Gholston said he is looking forward to telling Brady later this year.

“I am excited to play with him,” Gholston said of Brady. “I’m excited to learn from him. I’m excited when Michigan State beats Michigan so I can talk some stuff.

“Other than that, I’m just ready to get the ball rolling and see what we can do.”

I’m thinking the plan is Brady for 2 years then poach Aaron Rogers for 2 years. assuming, of course, the Brady experiment works and he’s still 80% of the GOAT.

  2. Mike Says:

I’ve always liked Will Gholston. He works hard and is a great team player. Solid RDE

  3. diggler Says:

Let Brady roll this whole Franchise over. From the cleaning people to the owners, let Brady leave his mark on everything these next 2 years. Bucs will be set for years to come.

    “Google🥶” leadership

You mean practices aren’t meant to see what you can get away with? The INTs will miraculously go away during games?

  6. LordCornelius Says:

Agree Mike. He’s had a quietly solid career for a later round pick and seems to fit the 3-4 more. In general I love we finally moved to that defense.

A true leader has arrived in Tampa. Not just someone who talks about improvement each and every week but someone who shows it! A leader amongst men. A TRUE LEADER!

  8. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

With a May snowstorm headed to New England, I bet Tom Brady is happy to be in Tampa!

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Not many 4th rounders worked out to be decent…..Gholston was one of them….not spectacular but solid.

  10. BigHog Says:

This team will need to get to at least 4,650 yards passing with an attempt to completion rate of 65% and a running game that produces at least 100 yards a game!….and at least 4.7 yards an attempt! Can it be done? We shall soon see!!EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT!!!

  11. Owlykat Says:

Gholston is the best run stopper on our team. That is very significant because when we stop every run it forces the other team to go pass offense every play and our defense to pin our ears back and pass rush every down and pound their QB and forcing turnovers.

  12. Sport Says:

Big hog – those numbers are only mandated in your paradigm, doomed by your close mindedness.

Also – Congrats on the first post in quite some time that wasn’t race elicit.

    In BA I Trust!

Sounds like a plan….in what year do we start Patrick Mahomes?

  14. TOM Says:

Gholston could have been better but there were times when he didn’t play up to expectations. I remember him being a real force in college.

  15. unbelievable Says:

Pretty amazing that Gholston has hung around this long.

At this point I think the only guy on the roster longer than him is LVD, right?

  16. Buczilla Says:

Gholston is the Randy Grimes (former guard who was usually solid and always unspectacular) of the Buc’s defensive line.

Yet another beneficiary of the 3-4 D that cant believe took So long
To bring in yet reaped immediate results ..Gohlston flew under the radar
With the big names and caught some heat about a paycheck that was a lil
High for his output ,but he is a run stopping machine and hell get to the QB
With some regularity.Hard to belive 8th season.!? Thsts 4 coaches abd 2 uni changes round here ..
