CB On Why Brady Came To Tampa

May 4th, 2020

Friction?

A former Tom Brady teammate has a pretty good idea why Brady wound up with Tampa Bay.

It’s all about the weapons, said Asante Samuel in an interview he granted to TMZ.

While Samuel hasn’t spoken with Brady and doesn’t know the specifics of why he left New England, Samuel said he has a pretty good idea since he spent five seasons there.

Point to one man: Hoodie.

“He probably just got tired of it,” Samuel says of TB12. “He probably got tired of some inner-circle things that he wanted. Maybe, he wanted receivers and tight ends to stay there with him and maybe Bill tried to trade them.”

That doesn’t seem far-fetched. Notice Rob Gronkowski decided to come out of retirement once he found out Brady wasn’t returning to New England.

Joe cannot fully buy that Bill Belicheat didn’t try to get Brady weapons. He acquired a couple of talented receivers in Antonio Brown and Josh Gordon the past two seasons. Problem is, both are severe knuckleheads and basically ran themselves out of New England.

Of course, when Brady saw the Bucs were throwing his name out as a free agent target, and the Bucs were loaded with passing weapons, it is understandable how Brady wanted to turn the page.

Not buying it. Samuel makes Brady sound like a petulant little boy, upset that daddy didn’t let him have his own way.

Bill Belicheck is not just the Pats’ HC, but also their de-facto GM. Reality IMO is that he’s favored the Pats’ DEFENSE over the offense, and the Pats are now in considerably worse salary Cap shape than the Bucs are. And that’s with the Pats paying their #1 QB only $1 mil per year right now. Brady could see clearly that the Pats are still good (because of their #1 defense), but not SB-good. Their DEFENSE will probably keep them in the hunt … but only until the start of the playoffs. Just like last year.

Even at 43-years-old, Tom Brady has a champions’ mindset. That’s what’s made him THE GOAT. Tampa Bay gives him an OPPORTUNITY to compete for a SB championship one more time. If not this year then next year. Why? Certainly because of him & what he brings to the TEAM in terms of LEADERSHIP, but also because of our talent-level on offense & defense. It’s not a done-deal by any stretch of the imagination, but I’d bet that he’s convinced himself that he’ll at least have a fighting chance here.

My guess is that he’s looking at a 2-year window to go out on top. I’m also guessing that Drew Brees (the one QB that Brady still needs to beat out to lead the pack in ALL records) is looking at exactly the same window. This could be a fun 2 years as the 2 of them go head-to-head.

    Dear Lord,

Please, for the love of You, don’t cancel this season.

In Baby Jesus as well as Grown-up Jesus’ Holy Name,

    Amen

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

He looked at a team with an emerging defense and two pro-bowl WRs along with a talent but underused TE group and a:

Rusher who averaged 4.2 YPC which projects to 1008 yards at 15 carries per game.

  4. El Buco Realisto Says:

Sorry to brake it to the sheep, but Brady is here to pass everyone for the passing records!!!!!! Brady just needs for Brees to retire after this season, then he will just need. 4000 yards in 2021 to become NFl’s overall passing record holder!!!!!!!!!

If he wins some games then that is just some icing on the cake!!!!!!! But the passing title is goal one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. NOLES Says:

Then we can get all jacked up on Mountaindew & watch…

  6. 941bucsfan Says:

Lol @ emerging defense. People are talking about this defense like they did with the mike smith bucs defense that went on a run….. ALL YALL ARE FALLING FOR THE TRAP. We cant stop a nosebleed… hell even schiano had the #1 run defense… but what about that 30th ranked back end

  7. TheBradyBunch Says:

Realist with yet another dumb take

  8. MTM Says:

Yeah Brady came to the Bucs for a passing title. Not a Super Bowl win. SMH!

  9. Matt Says:

Of course he grew tired of Belicheat’s system (failing to get him premium reliable weapons) and overall demeanor. You could tell he wasn’t having fun anymore and he just wanted to prove he’s the greatest of all time by bringing home a ring in another city. And although there are a lot of bitter Patriots fans now, he’ll retire a Patriot as the best QB ever but can you imagine his prestige if he walks off a SuperBowl winner with the Bucs after all those rings he got in NE? His legacy will be in the MichaelJordanosphere of sports. He will be adored by 2 different Franchises and do what Montana tried to do in Kansas City. It almost seems as if he’s destined to do this.

Doesn’t it seem like everyone is so bullish on our passing game that we are going to surprise everyone and run a lot more out of multiple TE and 3 WR sets? I think there’s a real chance we get 1700-1800 rushing yards and Brady only gets 4000 yards but is super efficient.

I didn’t get that same impression from the quote that you did. I do agree with everything else you said.

Like Brady and Gronk are playing hookie?

  12. Youngbucs Says:

Y’all sound salty passing titles and records lol. Brady wants to win guess what comes along with winning. Those stats y’all whining about him chasing!!!! Go Bucs

  13. Craig Says:

Brady paid a lot of money to have a good team around him. That had not been happening for a couple of years.

Last year the team was awful. It was the final straw and Brady walked away. He walked because he felt betrayed by his coach

That is fine with me, I hope he has a bad attitude this season and absolutely destroys it.

  14. Jean Lafitte Says:

Imagine how history will remember Brady’s career if he brings a Super Bowl to Tampa the same year Tampa host the Super Bowl?

Tom Brady would be the true “America’s QB”
