Arians > Belicheat

May 8th, 2020

Bucs coach Bruce Arians.

It is the strangest thing Joe has seen in a while and Joe wonders if someone’s ego has gotten too big or if there is a sinister plan lurking just below the surface?

Patriots coach Bill Belicheat has a well-deserved reputation for two things: being the best football coach that ever walked the face of the earth and being a guy that will stop at nothing to win a game, to hell with rules and/or ethics.

Unless you went to Auburn or are a hardcore SEC guy who refuses to watch any college football unless the school(s) is located in the Old Confederacy, you have no idea who the hell this Jarrett Stidham is.

In Belicheat’s world, he is the next Tom Brady, the next great Patriots quarterback. And Belicheat has enough pelts (and scalps) on the wall to be given the benefit of the doubt.

Hey, it worked with Brady. A guy few outside the Big Ten or Alabama knew well became arguably the greatest quarterback who ever lived (though Joe is still partial to Joe Montana).

Banking on Stidham looks, on the surface, like Belicheat’s evil genius to tank the season in order to draft Trevor Lawrence next spring.

Naturally, this is an arguing point for screamin’ Stephen A. Smith of BSPN. The topic? Which duo is better, Belicheat and this Stidham or Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians and park-violating, home-intruding Brady?

“Well, I’m certainly going to go with Coach Arians and Tom Brady,” SAS said.

You can hear (and see) SAS’s full take in the BSPN video below.

The only thing that gives me pause about the Pats this season is looking back in history…

Brady goes down in one of their first few games (if I remember correctly it was the first game) with broken leg… In come. Young Matt Cassel who leads the Pats to a 11-5 season…
Cassel never was able to duplicate that with any other team..

I’d still take Arians and Brady as well!

  2. El Buco Realisto Says:

At this point, the “real” fans would take one of Belicheat’s underlings over ole stale biscuit!!!!!!!!!!! bruce Arrogance is the most overrated coach in the league!!!!!!!! Dude loves interviews and the camera more than she-mc93 did!!!!!!!! If Brady can drag ole stale biscuit to a playoff victory, he should be hands down the best qb of all time!!!!!!! It may be a bigger feat than his 6 superbowl victories!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s time to herd the sheep, and put them back in the pen!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Pewter Power Says:

They are too cheap to tank and draft a quarterback first overall, he’d never see a second contract anyway because they won’t pay the guy what he’s worth.

Gotta love the nonsense at times, if we had let go of Winston to play Ryan griffin this town would be up in arms and shouldn’t be any different for stidham. Nobody has a clue what he will do and playing for Belichick shouldn’t change that fact. If anyone expects them to still make the playoffs has money to throw away

  4. Youngbucs Says:

Hey joe guess what the glennon mob is back 😂
    Jags signed him

  5. Owlykat Says:

If Brady wins this coming Super Bowl he will prove he made Bellicheat and not vice versa. Bellicheat does coach defense well but he has had to cheat in the past to win with his Offense. That is why he has tried to steal the opposing teams defensive signals and deflate footballs to get ahead.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

I will admit Joe that this article’s title … Arians > Belicheat … left me thinking that you’d lost it. Turned out the article had very little to do with Arians & Belicheck and much more to do with Brady & Stidham. It’d be awfully hard to compare a HC with 20 straight winning seasons & 6 SB Championships to … well, you know the rest.

I don’t see the Pats as being a major player this year either if that’s your point. They went all-in from a salary Cap standpoint on building a top DEFENSE, but pretty much crippled their offense in the process (personally wouldn’t be surprised that had a LOT to do with Brady’s decision to say hasta la vista). Kinda reminiscent of what Lovie tried to do with our offense in 2014-2015, and that Koetter tried to continue. Didn’t work then for the Bucs, and it won’t work now for the Pats. They shot their wad last year, and will be in salary Cap he11 for several years to come it looks like.

The Bucs are building a more BALANCED TEAM it appears, one that can compete for a playoff spot & potential a SB ring. HOPEFULLY we’ve learned our lesson & continue down this path of creating a COMPLETE FOOTBALL TEAM as StPete has called it. Now all that remains is to work harder & smarter than anybody else, play smashmouth football every single week, and git er done. And oh ya, a little luck might not hurt either.

  7. Tom S. Says:

Belichick has a better track record with drafting late round QB’s than every GM other GM/Coach in the league. In addition to hitting on Brady in Rd 6, Belichick used a 7th round pick on Matt Cassel who was not only a backup at USC who never started a game but would go on to be one of the best 7th round selections in modern draft history as he not only covered for Brady going 11-5 he was dealt to the Chiefs for a high 2nd round pick (34th) and would have one more 11-5 season for them going to the Pro Bowl in 2010. So while Cassel didn’t become a long term starter a 7th round QB with any Pro Bowl’s to their name is pretty close to unheard of.

Then you’ve got Jimmy Garappolo with an insane 21-6 record as starter for the 49ers including playoffs/SB appearance. Garoppolo was a late 2nd round pick, 62nd overall who was traded to the 49ers for what was initially the 43rd pick in the 2018 draft (then traded to the Lions).

Jacoby Brissett was a late 3rd round pick (91st overall) who was traded to the Colts for their former first round WR Philip Dorsett.

If you compare the backups to Brady under Belichick and what they got in return for those investments vs the starters the Bucs have spent picks on (Winston/Freeman/Glennon) you’d think it was the Bucs who were spending late round picks on their QB’s and the Patriots who were spending premium selections not the other way around.

That said, Stidham can just as easily be a bridge to a highly drafted QB next year if he flops so you’ve got that going for it as well.

  8. TSmitty3000 Says:

I would actually go with Belichick and Stidham over Arians and Brady for this reason.

Stidham has been in the Patriot building for a year now. He’s familiar with the terminology and receivers. Brady will not have the luxury of OTAs and minicamps. Heck, training camp might be abbreviated. Those are countless reps Brady won’t get with the team.

Don’t discount the Patriots having a better defense and better special teams. The Bucs D had a nice stretch at the end of the season, but the Patriots D did it all season long. Keep in mind 16 of the 20 years Brady was with the Patriots, they were a top 10 D. Should be a fun season

  9. Ndog Says:

If you didn’t know any better you would think the team around all those QBs Bellichek has won with when Brady was out were important?

But that can’t be the case cause having a horrible defense, no running game, a crappy kicker should have zero barring on if you win games or not according to all the experts here on this here website.

  10. ItzOK Says:

Pats will win 5 games. Pats fan need to stay put after the most amazing 20 year run and lets see them support their team as it searches for any QB that can play at a high level. Stidham will be the first in a long line of QB’s they are searching for over the next 12 years. Going to love watching the Pats house burn down.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Tom S … Superb insight, thank you. Belicheck is a wonder at getting the best out of what he has to work with, and often in very unconventional ways. Part of that is knowing how to get the most out of each player’s talents, but Belicheck goes well beyond that. I remember WR Troy Brown when he played for the Pats, an 8th Rnd pick back in 1993.

Brown played his entire 15 year career with the Patriots, and played on 5 SB teams (he’s still the franchise leader in career receptions BTW). Although his primary position was WR, Belicheck also used him as a return guy AND on defense as a cornerback. And what’s interesting to me is that Troy Brown had apparently never played CB before that. Like I said, unconventional ‘outside-the-box thinking’.

  12. Alanbucsfan Says:

You’ve got to have great players…
Landry didn’t win a SB until he had Staubach
Walsh didn’t win until he made Montana the starter
Miami hasn’t won since Marino retired
Reid didn’t win a SB until he got Mahomes
and Belichick won’t win without Brady

So hard to believe that the sheep and so-called fans wanted Head Coach Koetter and the coaching staff on the hot seat or even a total regime change!!!!!!! The “real” fans have got to watch the most exciting football in Head Coach Koetter’s reign then all the years since Gruden walked the halls!!!!!!! Same on all the so-called fans that wanted to derail this!!!!!!!!

you’ve been wrong about coaching staffs before!!!!!🤣🤣🤣

i knew dirk and smitty were trash….you kept your head in their pants…..

Unlike most I tell the truth without bias, today the QB sucked. Now Barber had a bad fumble, Perriman didn’t come back on the third pick, Jones fell on what would have been a huge screen play, OJ stopped running on a route and we had a FG blocked BUT if the QB plays better then we win this game period. The defense played fantastic, the running game wasn’t horrible and the oline provided good protection. That is not common but today it was so this loss falls on the QB.

you said yourself, despite all those mistakes:if the QB plays better then we win this game period…..chump…..

    what happened?…..JW prove he was a BUST!!!!!!🤣🤣

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!

  17. El Buco Realisto Says:

813bucbuffoon thinks that ole stale biscuit’s 7-9 losing season was 1000 times better than Coach Koetter’s 9-7!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I don’t blame him, I blame the public education system that failed him!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If 813bucbuffoon had his way, he would still be making excuses of why incompetent loser smith failed for a consecutive 6th season!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it was just a coaching problem, then why are only 4 to 5 starters left from just a short two seasons ago!!!!!!!! Lol!!!!!!!! What a buffoon!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s time to herd the sheep, and put them back in the pen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Ndog Says:

Yes 813 thanks for pointing out how fair I am. This is additional proof that I call it like I see it and I have said many times after that post that game was on Jameis. The difference between me and most is I am not bias as I just say what I see. Thanks 813 I appreciate you looking out for me.

If you want to rip Jameis today please do he was horrible. This one is 99% on him.

all that defending you do for JW and it was you who said he deserves to be ripped!!!!!!🤣🤣🤣

it was you who said: This one is 99% on him.

but it wasnt just 1game….it was the season….a season in which even you admitted if the QB plays better then we win this game period….we win more games IF he wouldnt played better…..

    face it mutt!!!!…JW IS A BUST!!!!!!…and you’ve been exposed!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  24. BucEmUp Says:

Everything he said about Bruce Arians is EXACTLY why I wanted him here in Tampa. BUT THEEEEEEEN comes along Byron Leftwich who ruined Jameis. I am happy knowing that Brady will call shots over Leftwich and hope to god that another team.is dumb enough to think he is a GREAT OC!!!!! Jameis would have been fanatstic this season but I wont complain about Brady ESPECIALLY if he fixes the repetitive and predictable run plays and calls for more screens and quick outs rather than forcing tbe ball 20 yards every pass

  25. Knuckle Sandwich Delivery Service Says:

    Bucemup

But Jameis threw for 5000 yards. Doesn’t that make BL a genius? Or was that all on Jameis? Hard to keep track of what level we are on with JDS from day to day. The kicker is he’s not even on our team. I guess tomorrow is JDS level 11.

It is fun to watch Dog try to church up his posts these days though.

  26. Knuckle Sandwich Delivery Service Says:

Rumor has it that Brees may intentionally pull a hammy so the Saints have to start JW on opening day, just so he can show everybody why he’s Mr5000 and take our D to the woodshed.

    You with me Dog!!!!!?????

  27. Ship Thief Says:

    Suckers getting called out!
    Hahahahahahaha
    So funny

  28. Anthony Dickson Says:

Arians has been coaching as long as Belichick, he(Arians) might have a different approach to coaching but he’s just as knowledgeable when it comes to the game of football as Belichick.

  29. Mike Johnson Says:

Bellacheat is one of the best ever done it. And I am not even a fan of the boring man. He takes late round picks and turns them into stars. And he knows exactly when to let players go. He knew Brady was on his way out at 43 yrs old. So why not let our Bucs be..the suckers. This brady move was not about you as a fan. its about trying to get Arians a ring. I don’t think its gonna work. I do hope I am wrong.

  30. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Big Question is, was it Belacheat, or was it Brady ?
    Guess what ?
We are all fixing to find out!
