“That Was A Good Reboot”

April 22nd, 2020

Joe is working to block out any thoughts of why new Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski retired after the 2018 season.

And former 49ers and Lions head coach Steve Mariucci is helping Joe do that.

Yeah, Gronkowski has a long career list of concussions and injuries. Heck, he fell in the 2010 NFL Draft because of injuries and was taken three picks after the Bucs grabbed Arrelious Benn.

Mariucci acknowledged Gronkowski’s issues and how the game wore him down and out. But Mariucci thinks everything Gronkowski did when he left football “was a good reboot” and should bring a very healthy Gronkowski — mentally and physically — to the Bucs.

“I think Bruce Arians’ offense will be altered quite a bit to accommodate the skillset of a Tom Brady and now a Gronk,” Mariucci said. “They’re going to do everything in their power to make them productive.

He went on to speculate that Gronk’s arrival could spark O.J. Howard rather than leaving him feeling pushed out.

“It’s a good team now, a very good team. Very competitive,” Mariucci said. “Now if you ask Drew Brees and Matt Ryan and those guys, ‘They go, c’mon, you bring it on!’ This is going to be a heck of a division.”

Mariucci was joined in a roundtable on NFL Network by retired receiver Steve Smith and former safety and current analyst Charles Davis.

Smith believes the Bucs are now super dangerous. Davis thinks Gronkowski is the perfect Brady soldier to get the Bucs’ locker room on the Brady “blueprint” in a hurry, and that Gronk is the kind of guy who won’t hesitate to talk to defensive players.

  2. Cannon Says:

Evans and Howard at wide receiver, Godwin in the slot, Gronk and Brate at TE… with Brady throwing to them.

Sounds like somebody turned on the cheat codes on Madden.

  3. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

Percy harvin stated he wants to play again. Maybe bring him in on a one year deal as our number 3? Just spit ballin

  4. Ben the GA Buc Says:

    LOL Cannon, for real.

  5. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Dirk

Harvin hasn’t played since 2016 and he only played 2 games that year. Do to concussions and extreme migraines. It would have to be a non guaranteed very low salary deal.

  6. Robert Says:

    BA offense?

This is now the BRADY offense. They just need to sit back and watch!

Can you imagine trying to cover ME and GRONK in the redzone…… how open will the others be LOL.

    good times!

  7. NDog is an idiot Says:

NDog now thinking why didn’t Arians/Licht bring in Gronk while my Loverboy Jameis was attempting to be a QB??
Answer: Gronkowski wouldn’t want to play with a QB of JayMiss’s caliber!

I really have a hard time believing BA will change his scheme that much. He hand picked this entire coaching staff to teach his sytem. Now at 67 he is just gonna change it? I have a hard time believing that will happen.

Sure, maybe Brady decides to target the TE more because of Gronk, but I dont think BA will redo his playbook to create a scheme that features the TE more.

The big changes are going to come in the form of more RB targets and a higher play action %. Imo anyway.

    I like Bruce Arians.
But I read somewhere that he has a considerable Ego.
An Ego big enough to need it’s own Zip Code.
I just hope he swallows that EGO, and let’s Brady change up his offense.

  12. Will Says:

Brady will be in control. Don’t forget it’s Arians system but BL makes the play calls and comes up with the game plan each week. Brady will get the “play call” and make the necessary adjustments that Winston was either scared, didn’t have the authority to, or couldn’t do. I think Brady will be heavily involved in the game planning and we’ll see more of a weekly adjustment depending on who we’re playing vs how BL said last season that he wanted things to happen more organically. Meaning we’ll see more of us exploiting what a team is weak at instead of just chucking the ball deep most of the game.

  13. DRFEELGOOD Says:

Just like Bear Bryant and Nick Saban, Bruce will change with the elements of the game and it’s evolution. When Brady tells him, “look at the numerous times on film that I tore the defense a new arse”. So the QB whisperer is with the GOAT of QBs , his GOAT of a TE (making the adjustment much easier), and we are about to strengthen both sides of the ball in the next few days of draft heaven!! I want RB early, but I truly believe that Rojo is about to come of age. Brady will hit him in stride when he is the best option when he looks off the nearest threat, not throw it to him last minute because you’re panicking and won’t throw it away. Rojo in open field can be death!!!
